  1. I don't think anyone would ever buy tickets to a Raw show expecting good wrestling at this point. Which I think I'll watch after Heat.
  2. Watching Heat... You know, ChrisMWaters' version of David Flair in an e-fed did the "Legend Killer" gimmick far better than Orton. Besides, Orton never beat Volkoff, Iron Shiek, or the Warrior.

Old school vs. New school Final Fantasy

Repeat: "Anyway, I'll go over some of the great features about VI that makes that game so great to me." So yes, what's your point? Watching one Precious Moments figure have the polygons of his sword enter the polygonal model of the other character, and watching the saccharine Aerith plop over dead while a piece of glass (white materia--whatever) falls out of her eye, and goes "dink...dink" bouncing into the water wasn't hilarious? At least the FFVI deaths didn't give you close ups of the action to see how hokey the sprites looked. I hate 8 (mainly because of the Junction system), love 9 except for the way PlayOnline ruined it,and can't comment on 10. Although odd you'd dislike 4--I'm curious why. Care to explain, please?
  4. Remember back when you'd make a thread like this and it would be pinned quickly?

They also booed the shit out of Rock's "live via satellite" appearance at Raw X.

    Mega Man Anniversary pack announced.

Wow, Sakura and I agree on something again! It all comes down to gameplay to me, and the X series has the edge. Jump, shoot, slide, wall-jump, and boss weapons (and something DUCKING!) vs. Jump/shoot. It's just too hard to go back. At least the later version of X have knees capable of bending into a crouching position. Okay, I never got to play it, but I could swear that's what I heard. LAME!! Well, that part I completely disagree on. I think the SNES games--at least X1 and X2, are better. Being a Metroid fan, that never bothered me.

25 most overrated games of all time

Sakura never ceases to amaze me with some of the bull she comes up with. Except for graphics/sound, it's not even better than FFVI on most counts. Even so, that's your opinion, Sakura. One you've failed to even give justification for. Edgar's tools quickly lose their usefulness, more so than the Blitz techniques do. Trigger owns, too. New Game + is my favorite RPG feature ever... "Remember me? Now fall before my now-godly power!!"
  8. I very much doubt Goldberg is winning clean. The match stips making it too easy for HHH to lose without getting pinned, thereby saving his heat and still drop the belt. And make Goldberg look like a total chump in the process. Yeah, plus to boot HHH will likely try to expose Goldberg as much as possible, just like he did with RVD and Steiner.

Ah yes...1 player can only use blue robo-dude in any of the modes of play, he's got only a couple of moves, control sucks... The ads were just GREAT! Elipses-ridden quotes from game mags all praising the graphics. I seem to recall a sequel coming out (that curiously, wasn't called RotR2), but it was almost as bad.

25 most overrated games of all time

Thank you. Most of the "secrets" in FFVII were along the same lines as those prior in the series, thus little originality. It added, gameplay-wise...uh...running without speed shoes and Limit Breaks. Whoopie. Materia took away much of the unique play mechanics, too. FFVII reduced the number of party members in total and allowable in the party at once. Most of the FFVI character were more well-developed than most of the FFVII cast (of course, dunno about Vincent, since he and Yuffie kinda count as "hidden" characters a la Umaro and GoGo). However, elements that should have stayed the same were axed. I was psyched to hear that Tifa used Blitz techniques...until I discovered that the beloved fighting game commands used in FFVI for Sabin was turned into an f'n SLOT MACHINE!! As a fellow fighting game fan, even you must conceed that's lame, Sakura. Gameplay-wise, VII didn't break any new ground. However, aside from the cinematic presentation, the Final Fantasy games never broke any new ground for RPGs--they just got credit for it because they became so big. Oh...maybe Chocobo raising counts as...wait a minute--that WAS a unique gameplay facet, wasn't it?

    The Suckbag Superkick

AHHH!! Van Hammer as a glam rocker! Kidding--I hated Gill. I'd like to nominate any "wrestling moves" that Coach or JR attempt tomorrow night for this topic.

    Mega Man Anniversary pack announced.

Again, it was a RUMOR from Game Informer that announced both packs. However, the original Mega Mans are confirmed, so maybe they're keeping news of the X one a bit more secretive. Mega Man Chess sounds cool. Would it be like Battle Chess except with animated fighting sequences? Or are there completely new rules based on weapon weaknesses and such?

    If Nintendo re-released the NES

My brother-in-law was the same way. Technology-wise, the Master System is more powerful. Plus the Game Gear was basically a portable version (you can even play Game Gear games on a MS with the right accessory). I played a few games on it. For an 8-bit title, Psycho Fox is pretty damn good. Plus there's Double Dragon and...uh...there's this really good shooting game--damn, it's been a while. However, a pause button on the console itself was a bad idea. It would have done a lot better if Nintendo didn't have the exclusive agreement with 3rd party publishers.

    Asians go under the knife

Right--native-born Asian Americans seem to have no problem. Wouldn't you be fine if you were just raised in an English-speaking environment?

    New Book Upsets Christians

Anti-Christianity is SOOO cool! All the kids are doing it! If Christians want to protest and boycott any stores carrying the book, that's within their rights, just like writing the book is within the rights of the writer. However, the work in question hardly seems to be a smartly-written, intelligent read, so even if you're of the same viewpoint as the author, doesn't sound too funny. At least, despite the lude and crude jokes, Dogma managed to be clever and funny. I too agree that giving it publicity may very well help its sales, though.

Thoughts on the Iron Man Match

I think he meant like when Brock would grab the rope (which should get a release of the hold), only to have Angle pull him away. I don't really understand the rationale behind that either. I interpreted the rule to be if you just touch the rope, you don't get the hold broken. But once you grab the rope or have a limb clearly breaking the plane of the ropes, it should be a break. I think that's only for pins, or video games. Might be a rule for Japan matches, like 20 counts before a ring out. There's no actual WWE rule book for matches since they don't care much about the matches themselves. They'd break the rules anyway for an angle, but at least we would know. I think an opinion should be given anyway. However, it's hard to sum up an overall opinion easily. *'s allow you to compare matches to each other more easily. I do see your point though. Ratings are often subjective, but there are clearly definable "good" matches and "bad" matches, so they aren't completely subjective.

Thoughts on the Iron Man Match

"Also, when did it become the new rule that you don't have to break the hold when your opponent reaches the ropes?" I think you have until a count of 5 to release a hold when your opponent has the ropes. If not, the ref can disqualify you. So a smart wrestler keeps it on to a 4 count.

Thoughts on the Iron Man Match

Then devise a superior method of rating matches and I'll be all ears. Unless you think that matches shouldn't be rated at all, in which case I think many of us are going to disagree. Maybe we can go 1-10 ratings for crowd heat, psychology, workrate, smoothness of match flow (lack of awkward transitions or blown spots), etc. However, the star ratings are a more succint way of doing so, which is why they've stuck around.

    Mega Man Anniversary pack announced.

UPDATE!! Game Misinformer magazine (same jackoffs that gave a bad rating to Shantae for GBC) mentions a rumor that a Mega Man X collection is also in the works, and that the collections will likely have Mega Man Soccer and/or Mega Man Chess. Nothing concrete, but if it is at least being considered then bitchin'.

Ok so we have 3 new WWE games...

You get to unlock the secret characters on the last stage of each revenge board. They are all Japanese and non WWE employees with different names and you unlock their moveset Template in the CAW. So basically if you get Aiko (what ever her name is) you can just apply her moveset to your CAW of Ultimo dragon(she has his moveset) instead of having to do it all. Kinda like the SD!2 unknowns--unfortunately, instead of wrestling them in career mode you have to play through the crappy Revenge mode. =/ Good idea, bad execution.

25 most overrated games of all time

About the Penny Arcade comic--or rather the page discussing their viewpoint: overrated doesn't make a game bad. Neither does expressing an opinion in comic strip form make you right. Many of the games listed had a lot of influence. So? That doesn't mean that the games themselves were great or even good. Some, quality-wise, were only average or crap. Except for the presentation, graphics, etc--FFVII was no better than FFVI. When you have legions of fans voting or cheating to vote characters from those games over games that were the cornerstones of gaming for a decade + and still pumping out hi-quality entries, there's a problem.

    Want a WWE job?

Anyone have that pic still? Pissed off, bloody, heavy-metal hating Flair trashing their equipment was awesome. Flair even got a big face pop for doing that. And wouldn't zombie Flair want brains--and balls? I don't know how their albums sound, but that performance live sucked. When Bossman was hung, I expected him to come back as a cyborg or a bionic man. Instead, he was just fine. Hmph.

    The Rocks New-ish Tattoo

Wow, that was quick. Nice job, Rico. I still have no idea what it is supposed to represent just from the picture. That might help this guy a lot, though. Choken: they can cover it up with makeup.
