I will say that I hope and pray that this is the last we see of Jason Varitek in a regular starting role. Unfortunately, the organization painted itself into a corner by adding ZERO depth behind him in favor of making the backup catcher Wakefield's lackey. The best they can do is sign a decent young catcher and Varitek to a one-year deal and platoon them. Tropicana Field sure emptied out fast. I guess the fans want to get home before Monday afternoon if Smues' tales of horror told us anything.

Rays in 4 or 5 in the World Series. The Phillies have a shot with Hamels pitching, but after that, they're cooked. At least they went down with some semblance of a fight. Well....not tonight since Garza was dealing, but at least it went the full 7. They need to throw whatever money they can at a guy like Texiera in the offseason since they need another big bat. They should be all right for next year since guys like Ortiz and Lowell will be healthy and Lester has emerged as a bonafide ace this year. If this happened after 5 I'd have been more bummed, but I'm not. For the record, I turned the game off after the 7th since the writing was on the wall.

The main event was odd; Bruno throws Larry into every side of the cage and bloodies him before just waltzing out as Zbyszko stands there. Then Larry exits the cage and takes a few more shots before raising Bruno's arm in respect and leaving. I guess the story was Bruno teaching Larry a lesson about respecting one's elders, but it just came off really, really weird. It was a pretty decent show on it's own, but Cole and Mick's commentary make it a classic. I'm probably going to watch it again this week and record it.

So now the Cowboys are getting fined $200K because of Pacman's suspension. I mean, what the fuck? These are grown men who have lives outside of football; teams shouldn't have to be fucking babysitters for them. If a player fucks up, it's on him, not the organization.

It started at the end of Tagliabue's reign, but Goodell has just taken things to the next level of ridiculousness with these fines and punishments.

I picked up Lost Odyssey, LEGO Batman and Pure. The latter two are really fun but Lost Odyssey is taking forever to get going. The story looks promising, though.

So Kazmir is starting Game 5 over Shields. I can kinda see Maddon's rationale here (better Kazmir have another bad outing now than having him blow a series-tying Game 6), but I would throw the better pitcher out in this situation since you have the team on the ropes and you can stick the dagger in.

So Degeneration-X is officially christened as such this week. This Shawn-Bret build up is so weird since the fans don't really know who to cheer for since Bret's been a heel for so long, but DX is acting like such idiots that they don't deserve to be rooted for either so it leads to the crowd basically sitting on their hands. As hard as it is to believe, I think Hunter was being the more annoying of the two at that point because all he'd really accomplished in his career to that date is buddying up with the clique and he's acting like he's the greatest thing ever.

And I was mocked when I said I didn't want him on the postseason roster. I'd love to say "WE GOT 'EM RIGHT WHERE WE WANT 'EM!", but last year there was '07 Beckett waiting in the wings. This year it's Double-Sided Dice-K so he's liable to follow up a damn good Game 1 with a damn shitty game 5 performance. If he can hold them off, though that might not matter since the bats still need to wake the fuck up, there may be something with Beckett and Lester wanting a second crack at the Rays. As far as the broadcasting team, I like Darling and Martinez, but I'm fucking sick of Caray orgasming over a Rays seeing-eye single in an 8 run game like it's a game-winning hit. Plus, his knack of acting like EVERY long fly ball is going to end up in the upper deck is terrible. If TBS gets a new PBP guy, they'll have a pretty good team.

This is mostly on Beckett stubbornly trying to bust guys inside even though he has nothing on his fastball right now and they end up launching them into the seats. Kinda reminded me of an old Pedro start. Lester is now the true ace of the staff.
