Hey Al, with the Winter Meetings thread, do we still need this one? Seems like people are talking about the same things in both of them.
-
What about Millar? He can play the outfield as well, and hey, all the Jack Daniels you can drink!

No, it's just that Saddam's been a fly in the ointment for a good long while, and common thinking was that if he was left unchecked for too long, it would be bad times in the Middle East (and elsewhere).
-
Bill James pornography? "Hey baby, I'll show you where the 'sabre' in 'sabremetrics' comes from." Ugh, that was bad. Bad jokes are the best birthday presents. Have a good one, Al.

http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=1942016 7 years for a receiver over 30? Kind of risky there, but he and Manning are like the new Rice/Montana, so I guess they are willing to take the gamble. Still, I hope the Colts keep enough room on the cap to improve that defense. They can't possibly rely on Peyton throwing 50 TDs a year to get them anywhere. This contract might help them a bit with Edge, but I still think that the Dolphins will do everything in their power to sign him.

They said that Saddam was aiding many terrorist groups, including Al Queda, so I guess a lot of Americans drew the conclusion (wrongly) that he aided in 9/11 as well, since that was what introduced pretty much everyone to them.

I just hope Bush keeps his campaign promise of "Two barrels of oil in every pot."
-
Um....he also got into wars with Iran and Kuwait? I'm not sure if he started the Iranian war (probably did), but he DID invade Kuwait with no provocation.

A) Only Congress can initiate impeachment. It's not like we can drag the guy out of the White House and beat him with reeds. Since the Repubs control Congress, impeachment just ain't happening. B) People always say "Impeach Bush". My question: why exactly? "Because I think the Iraq war is wrong and was only for oil" doesn't cut it. Let's hear some reasoned, factual arguements here.

Because he threw, what, 4 interceptions in that game? And that he'll probably have to play there again this year (or in Pittsburgh, who are no slouches on D themselves)? Besides, people here aren't bashing Peyton, they're after the Colts' MANAGEMENT, who seem to be trying to go against the grain and build a powerhouse offense while virtually ignoring the defense when it has been shown for FOUR YEARS now that you need a good playmaking defense on top of a good offense to win in January/February. Just look at the past four Superbowls: 2000 - The Ravens D completely shut down the Giants, who completely blew away the Vikings in the NFC title game that year. 2001 - The "Greatest Show on Turf" drops one of the biggest upsets in league history because the Pats D beat them up for 3 1/2 quarters. And remember that the Rams had a pretty good D themselves. 2002 - Derrick Brooks and the Bucs D made Gannon look foolish. 2003 - Ok, it turned into a shootout in the 4th, but both teams defenses were what put them in the SB to begin with (Pats shut down the Colts while Carolina pounded on the Eagles)

What? It's a FACT that Peyton gags every time he's faced the Pats in Foxboro, and having a swiss cheese defense just compounds the problem. Defense wins championships - how many more times does that have to be proven for people to get it?
-
Hell, that already happened LAST year with Peyton and Co. getting completely stopped in their tracks in the AFC title game. Let's hope a repeat of that finally convinces them that this ain't the Arena League.

With the main one probably being the Red Sox spinning their wheels for half the season. They probably would have won the division pretty handily (4-6 games) if they weren't .500 for three months. (So Al won't yell at me for going off-topic with Red Sox-Yankees stuff) The Matt Mantei signing isn't bad, since it's another of those "If he stays healthy great, another good arm. If not, we didn't break the bank for him, so no damage" signing. I can probably see Varitek signing for 4 years, 10-10.5M/yr, with a voidable 5th year worth $11-12M and no no-trade, which is pretty much in between what both sides are demanding (Sox offered $9M, Yek wants $11). They'll probably take another look at Cabrera because really, there isn't much left for SS, though moving Pokey Reese to SS and getting a good-hitting second baseman (someone like Jeff Kent, possibly?) is an option. They don't neccessarily need more offense, but I'd still like a good bat in the bottom of the order.

The OAO Mystery Science Theater 3000 Thread
KingPK replied to DMann2003's topic in Television & Film
I had Warrior, Santa Claus, and the last Thanksgiving show on CC (Night of the Bloodbeast, was it?) on one tape, but it got screwed up and I lost everything. There are too many host segments that I like. I even contributed a transcript of one to Satellite News' Ward-E. It's the "Opening Statements" one from Agent for H.A.R.M. -
"I'm physically weak, apparently." "If you'd stop being a wussy-boy, people would stop saying that." BURN!!!!! Even the old lady's doing better than him. Look at the rack on Gus!!

Wow, Adam's a puss, isn't he?

I'm surprised these drivers don't just drop them in the middle of some slum.

Just a bump for this week. Of course they go to a warm weather area AFTER the Mormons get the boot.

Here's when you know the media has nothing else to complain about: On the radio today in Boston (and for the past few days), the main topic is Corey Dillon going back in to the game with 98 yards so that he could get 100. People are blaming Dillon for being selfish and caring only about stats, even though he has no incentive in his contract for x number of 100 yard games in a season. The callers are repeatedly saying "WE DON'T CARE!!", but they still harp on it.

The OAO Mystery Science Theater 3000 Thread
KingPK replied to DMann2003's topic in Television & Film
We got CC on our cable system in the summer of '94, I think. I was flipping through one night and stopped on the Village of the Giants ep. I thought it was pretty funny, and I soon got hooked. What really got me sucked in was the Top 50 marathon they did one summer when they showed one episode every night at midnight for the whole summer. Course, I didn't tape a single ep, so I have to rely on Rhino's releases to get the classics. I'm probably going to end up getting into trading my Sci-Fi era episodes for CC eps. -
Thank God that the potentially awesome AFC playoffs will offset the probable crappy NFC games.
-
Wow, that one almost got through. AFC Divisional playoff rematch, anyone?
-
Why not? If the snap is muffed, just fall on it and quickly reset.

Steelers can't leave TOO much time on the clock here.
