Can we talk about THIS year please? The offenses are pretty much a push, and both teams are pretty capable on defense (Boston moreso when they put in the Gold Glove Infield in the late innings), so this series will come down to pitching, and I'll have to give the nod to Boston's starters while the Yankees have the better bullpen (but only because they have Gordon and especially Rivera) Of course, Rivera blew TWO saves against the Sox during the season.... And the Red Sox have the best starter in the series (Schilling)..... And you know Pedro's itching to give the Yankees the double bird (figuratively) in the Stadium...... Of course, Derek Jeter seems to come up big every fucking time he's put in a clutch situation.... And A-Rod's been having a good postseason..... I can't make a prediction. Maybe after Game 1.

I can see I'll be sick of this thread by the end of Game 1. I'd rather have AIM chats for every game instead of one thread of 5000 posts that say nothing.
-
Schilling's carefully covering Damon's hair with champagne LOL. Faaaaantastic start from Arroyo (if he pitches at that level the whole postseason, that staff just got MORE dangerous), and I hate that he didn't get the victory, but oh well. And now, ORTIZ~! (or PAPI~!) has been bestowed the prestigious tilde-bang designation for Red Sox Nation. 8 more to go... One more thing: Why didn't Washburn get the loss? Yeah, K-Rod put the winning run on, but Washburn gave up the game-ending hit.

I was just about to say that. And Berman's off and running with the movie references. Time to fire up the radio.

Well, since game 3 is 10 minutes away, might as well bump this one up. 3 more hours of Boomer/Sutcliffe/Fat Tony, I'm in heaven. Wow, this is only the 4th game since 1918 that the Sox have a shot to end a postseason series at Fenway. I think it's gonna happen.
-
See? You ARE no fun.
-
I knew he would pull through.
-
Hoo boy, please forgive me if I'm not brimming with confidence right now. PLEASE have the bullpen on alert, Terry. Well, there's 100. Where are my pills?
-
It always looks like K-Rod is about to go tumbling off the mound after he throws the pitch. Chone Figgins defense shines through again!
-
I'd have Pedro on a short leash right now. Get the bullpen cooking, and yank him the moment trouble arises. I don't give a fuck if it hurts his feelings, get over it. And by the looks of things, since (almost) all of the game 1s were blowouts, all the Game 2s will be good, close games.
-
Whoo, Millar better check if that line drive didn't break some fingers. That thing was smoked. Pedro's got one inning left, methinks.
-
And Pedro is demonstrating why he didn't start Game 1.
-
But you gotta admit that their starting pitching doesn't scare people like the Clemens/Pettite/Wells troika used to (who knows how long Brown can go with that hand). And maybe, just maybe, Mariano Rivera is becoming mortal.
-
I had a real bad feeling once Nathan came out for the 12th. Keeping your closer in for a third inning is a gamble that only pays off if your name is Mariano Rivera. The Twins (and Grady Gardenheimer) blew a HUGE chance tonight. You DON'T want to give the Yankees momentum in October.
-
That error wasn't Molina's fault, Figgins airmailed what looked like an easy force play. I don't think we'll be seeing him playing third anymore. Now I'm hoping that the Santana/Mussina matchup is good tonight, or this would have been a rather dull first day of the playoffs with the lack of close games.
-
Fuck. This might be my best season on the hill and I get stopped in my tracks by injury. Do the baseball gods just not want me to win 20 games or something?
-
Someone brought this up on a GameFAQs board (which proves how inane the whole thing is), so I just said "Fine, then we should be able to vote for the Presidents/PMs of France, England, Spain, Canada, etc, etc."

I'm not doing SD this week because I've had the flu all week, and I am just not up to it. It's on tape (and I've watched it), so I might go back to it sometime. I'll just say that the "retrospectives" showed how far that show has fallen, as did the ending.

Ah, and I'm already in a bad mood. Fucking dolt.
-
At around 6:30 EDT, I vomited for the first time since the 8th grade. Discuss.
-
Not alcohol related (or it would be the first time since my HS graduation). I got a touch of the stomach flu. I've been chugging Lipton tea all day. I'll probably be up for four days now.
-
If I was Torre, I'd hope that they just call the game right now, since an elongated delay would probably knock El Duque out of the game and I don't think I'd want to dig into that bullpen and wear out Gordon and Quantrill even more.
-
Since they're saying the steady rain is less than an hour away, I think we're going home early tonight. Stupid umps. Unless there's lightning out there, PLAY ON!
-
They say that the steady rain *might* hold off until overnight, but there will be showers around, so I think there at best will be a short rain delay and at worst, a rainout.
