The Sox game was one of those "whew" games, in that they overcame a shaky pitching performance (Wake is starting to concern me, to be frank) to win the game and keep pace with the Yankees. Hopefully with Schilling on the mound the Rays get crushed and we can get it on at the Stadium. However, with Ivan, it might rain all weekend in NY. Three doubleheaders next weekend in Boston, baby!! Really, if MLB could do it, they would.

Good to see the Bills embarassed on Opening Day for a change. I'd say the Bills letting Jacksonville march down the field in the final minute after shutting them down the whole game consitutes a choke. When is the first Pats-Jets game? That actually should be a pretty interesting.

I can see AS' point of view, but it's a POV that only Yankees fans can have. Since the team has won so many championships, and are perennial favorites every year, anything less than a championship is a failure. There's a bit of that in Patriots fans right now; in a lot of fans minds, if they don't win it sll this year, they will be a failure, like the '02 team. I wouldn't want to live with that POV myself, of course.

That used to be on ESPN all the time, back when they still struggled to fill programming hours. It was insanely fun to watch, as I recall.

Oh yeah, the Sox played tonight. As long as this is the only loss of the series (they ran into a pitcher who pitched the game of his career so far. It happens), it'll be fine. A split? Hmm, not what I'd like. Losing 3 out of 4 or being swept? If I might channel my inner AS here, that would be completely unacceptable.

Yeah, show some consistency here. They didn't call it at all in the first half (as far as I could tell), and I'll bet there were plenty of instances that they could have made the call, but in the 4th, the flags suddenly come out? Call it all game if you want to reinforce the rule, not just when the game is close. And I would take out the "automatic 1st" part. Make it like an incidental facemask call: 5-10 yards either tacked onto the play (if it's a completion) or move the ball 5-10 yards up if it isn't. If the defender is all over the receiver, call pass interference and go from there. I still think that a lot of coaches and players will complain about it, and the NFL will back off a bit.

I agree that the Pats have woefully underused Dillon tonight. No good!! The streak is snapped, and the win streak continues! Fun game to open the season, but I still think that they will dump the whole chuck rule thing by Week 4.
