Hey just an idea. This board is big enough with enough of different topics to discuss that I would think everyone would find a subject they would like to talk about.
-
I really hope the players get as pissed off over this loss as the fans will. I don't want Francona going on the radio and saying "Oh well, Ortiz just had a bad night, we'll get em' tomorrow with Kevin Millar batting in the cleanup spot."
-
I don't know, it's just frustrating as hell. When you have the bases loaded with NO-ONE out, logic indicates that you should at least get ONE run out of it, even if it's just from a sac fly.

Jesus, teams leave guys on base all the time. EVERY team in baseball leaves guys on base. And despite this LOB "problem," the Sox still manage to score alot of runs. They never do it with consistency, though. For every game they score 12 runs, it seems like the next day they leave 8 guys on base and lose 4-3.
-
I know it really isn't a problem that can be fixed immediately by a trade or anything, but you DID say: EDIT: MORE FUCKING UNEARNED RUNS!!!!!! GOD DAMN IT!!!! That's problem #2 with them, by the way. That is up to 60 unearned runs on the year.

I'd do what Ill did initially (look for people with 0 posts who have been members for at least two weeks) every two weeks. I mean, if you can't jump into a conversation at least once in a while, why be a member?

Jeebus Tapdancing Christo. Al thinks the Sox don't have problems? Problem numero uno was just exhibited: they leave too many men on base.

A little while ago, I heard a bunch of people honking their horns and when I looked out the window, I saw someone hanging a Portuguese flag out the window. I didn't know what the hell was up until I remembered that this is going on. Fall River, MA has probably one of the biggest concentrations of Portuguese in the US, so you can guess the celebration here if they win the thing.

NBC I think wanted to expand their Olympic coverage and show more events, but since they only had one channel to work with, I guess this was the best idea they could come up with. But I guess that won't be a problem this year. I think Athens coverage will be on something like 7 or 8 channels.

I'm probably going to incur the Wrath of Al here, but I have to question why the Sox are continuing to refuse to play small ball when it is clear that they don't have the juggernaut offense they did last year. I don't have the exact number, but they have left a TON of men on base this year, and you can't tell me that bunting and stealing wouldn't drive even 10-15% of those runs in? The Marlins lead the league in SB and sacrificed a lot in 2003. How did they fare, again? Fuck, even Mr. Moneyball Billy Beane's team won a playoff game on a damn suicide squeeze. It isn't just the offense, of course. The pitching (outside of Schilling, Foulke and, at times, Pedro) SUCKS, the defense SUCKS (58 unearned runs, is it?), and the Terry Francona=Pete Carroll comparisons have started to spring up, since Terry doesn't seem to want to publicly admit the team isn't playing well. Oh, and "COWBOY UP" KEVIN MILLAR THE FUCK OUT OF HERE!!!!!

And unfortunately, I'm probably going bye-bye in the offseason. Let's see if a rookie pitcher can do better than I did. BTW, I'm doing a SFBL of my own right now with OOTP2. The Jokers won the inaugural title, beating Vancouver 4 games to 2, and in year 2, the Ignition beat Chicago 4 games to 1. Game 5 in that series was pretty thrilling; the Ignition cruised through most of the game, building a 9-3 lead going into the 7th, but the Authority got 1 in the 7th, 2 in the 8th, and 3 in the 9th off the league's best closer, John Navarro to tie. It remained scoreless into the 12th until, with the winning run on third, Indy slugger Mother Moreno beat the throw on an infield hit as Cy Lindsby scored to clinch it.

It did, you can sleep easy tonight. Does it make me less of a fan that I'm not watching the game in favor of Jeopardy, and that I'll probably just flip to it between commercials during The Next Action Star and Last Comic Standing? I think I'm violating some kind of divine law here.

Har har. Take a wild guess. I was thisclose to renaming you SoxSault for the week and putting this pic in your sig, BTW. My mature side won out, unfortunately. If they face off again in the ALCS, on the other hand......

And just make it all the more heartbreaking when something inevitably happens at the end. And if Nomar goes to the Cubs, guess who drives in the winning run in game 7 of the WS?
-
Oh yes, we'd want a LOT more. Mendoza is someone we want around for a LONG... ......I can't even finish without laughing.

I think the real pressing issue this week is wether or not the Devil Rays can keep their league best 11 game winning streak going. They may not be in the division race for a long time because of the top two teams, but they could be vying for the Wild Card in a few years if they keep developing young players. Getting a real MLB pitching staff won't hurt, either.
-
Just found something really great. At the Underdogs site, you can download OOTP2 for free. 400 Software Studios apparently released it as freeware, so you won't feel guilty for d/ling it. You can play your own version of the SFBL at home!

Jumping to a very serious conclusion over one thread? Doesn't that sound kind of dumb to you?

Danny Ainge was on WEEI Friday, and he stated that two of the three Celtics first round picks (Tony Allen and Delonte West; although he might have thrown Al Jefferson in there, I don't remember) can make an immediate impact in the NBA. Now if that is true, it would only show how diluted the NBA talent pool has become, rather than be a vindication of Ainge's picking skills. From what I heard in that interview, Ainge is putting a LOT of stock in these guys, just like Pitino did with his "Backcourt of the Future" a while back. Ainge has to stick to his guns and not just give up on these guys if they aren't All-Stars in two years, like Pitino, or he'll be out on his ass and forever hated by the fanbase (who doesn't like him much already), like Pitino.

1) Previously Banned Poster 2) A relic from the Post Whoring Era 3) Stating (paraphrased): "It's times like this I wish some of you were in the towers on 9/11". Naturally Dames (a native New Yorker and witness to the attacks) took a BIT of offense to that, and Chris went bye-bye.

Um.....if I lived in Cali, I'm REALLY far from home right now. Why would you think I lived in California? I'm white as a ghost.

So what method are we using for him, anyway? #12 is too messy, and I'm probably going to have to clean it up, #26 is tricky because I don't know where I can get hot tar and a Porky Pig mask at this hour. I suggest #43. Simple, effective, and leaves the fresh scent of pine.
-
I'm just here to pay my respects to the memory of -iB- And to poke him with a large stick if he tries to climb the fence to get back in.

Youklis has 4 RBI on the night now. I think he should stay but if the Sox want to trade him for Garcia, might as well strike while the iron is hot. Maybe Seattle will fall for it like the Sox did last year with Suppan (although I think Youklis has much more upside than Suppan did.) EDIT: I think we're done for the night. If it is still pouring after the 30 minues the ump must wait, this game is over.
-
As if his night wasn't good enough, Manny lays out and makes a pretty little diving catch to end the inning. He's getting a curtain call for that one, for sure. EDIT: Looks like Leskanic is making his Sox debut in the 8th.
