I'm probably heading up to Toronto for a few days; I've heard a lot of good things about the city, and it shouldn't be that hard (or expensive) to score a good ticket to a Jays/Sox game.

Does the draft always follow so soon after the finals are over? Anyway, outside of Okafor, I really don't know much about any of these guys, which kind of makes the NBA Draft a bit of a crapshoot. It's not like the NFL draft where you know the top 20 players' height, weight, 40yd time, religion, favorite member of the B-52s, and first word.

Thanks for the input, everyone. I've decided not to do anything drastic, since most seem to be okay with how things are going now. Thread closed.

After reading about Al's complaints about OaO threads, I got to thinking about it, and I'm conflicted. Unlike the OaO threads in, say, the WWE folder, the OaO threads here do contain some pretty good discussion (the NBA and NHL playoff threads, the weekly baseball threads), and don't fall into a "chat-like" vibe. But I do share the belief with Al in that big stories probably deserve their own threads (a big trade, a big FA signing, drafts). So I'm putting this to the people. Should we ditch the OaO system, or leave things as it is? I'm not going to do anything right now, since I have no problems with anything, but I'm willing to change things if people think they should be changed.

In case you're wondering, I renamed this thread to something more fitting. I just want to get away from the whole "One and Only" motif.

Looks like that pitch caught the outside corner of the plate to me.
-
Oh please. The 3rd base ump blew a call in the Sox game, and you don't see either Frigid or I going off like you are. Didn't you just say a page or so ago that you were trying to not get so worked up over all things baseball? Guess that's out the window.

Yeah, I found it odd that I'm the #1 starter when it is only my second year at the position. My numbers are pretty good, though. We just can't seem to drive in runs.
-
Gagne needs an easy to remember nickname, like Eckersley did. I don't think "The Gag" would fit him that well, though.
-
Whoo, A-Rod better check for a hole in his bat after that pitch.
-
Man, we're 4-11 in one run games? I hope that this is just a slow start on our part, or I'll feel just like Flik. But like they say in MVP, I'll try not to disrupt the clubhose with my attitude If the Pride win it all I'll be very sad.

Why the hell is Embree in again? With guys on base? AGAINST BARRY BONDS?! AWFUL call at third. He was out by two steps. And Francona is tossed.

I think Mike meant that people are still raising a stink over prisoners being humiliated by US troops months ago while Americans are getting their heads lopped off by terrorists and the story falls into oblivion after a few weeks or so (which happened to the Berg story).

Damn Rant, gimme back my thunder. Like he said, if you have a problem with a poster, why don't you make an effort to tell the mod where exactly the problem is? Mods do at least visit every folder here, but it should be the responsibility of the posters to make the mods aware of any problem posters.

I like that idea Bored. The first one, not the second one. I guess to some people the title "One and Only" gives the wrong impression sometimes. That's pretty much how things are going right now. I won't stop anyone from putting up a thread if they think the topic is important enough. But we should keep a general thread for general stuff.
-
Um....it's 9-7 Red Sox after a 7-run fifth. Should have told you that.
-
There's now a thread discussing OaO threads, so post your thoughts there, please.

Lowe apparently passed the suck bug to Wakefield. But Ortiz and Manny just went back-to-back, so it's 7-5 Giants. The Giants aren't shying away from playing small ball at all. They're taking those walks Wake is piling up and are making runs out of them.
-
Oh Fucking Please. How many of those players have been to Fenway recently and seen how the fans treat guys like David Ortiz, Pokey Reese, and even Manny this year? Or are they just bitter individuals that can't leave things in the past? If anything, the white guys are the ones getting the most heat this year (Nomar as the big example). Fuck Bonds and his ignorant, pussyish attitude. If he would just shut up and hit home runs (but not stand in the batter's box and admire them every time), MAYBE people would like him more.

Still, he has a point. If the Pistons tear through the East and make it to the Finals again, then you can talk about them as great. If they don't make the playoffs or exit in the first round, then you could say that they just caught a shaky Lakers team at the right time. It's like the Patriots of 2001; they beat a supposed juggernaut in the Rams, but they didn't even make the playoffs in '02, so I see that '01 team as one that figured out how to beat the Rams, but just couldn't keep it going to qualify as a "great team."
-
Alright Dama. You don't like the Lakers, we get it already. Bill Simmons broke down the finals very nicely in his latest article. His assessment of the Pistons win:

Point taken. Just don't do it in this thread so people who don't want to hear about it won't have to (i.e. Me).
-
Out of curiosity, what were the top 5 teams? I was watching late last night but went to bed after they got to #6.
-
I do agree with Al that one thread encompassing everything is not a great idea. How about this thread is used for offseason FA signings, retirees, and any pre-season observations and another is created for the Draft when it comes along? The season, however, is WAY too long for just one thread. A OaO MLB thread would be hideously long, which is why the TWiB threads exist. When the season starts, someone can put up a thread a few weeks in and people can offer their thoughts on how things are going so far. Threads about Kobe's trial belong in CE.

Very promising result today in Colorado. Lowe seems to finally be getting out of a funk (seven shutout innings) and the offense looks to be clicking. These guys should have pounded the hell out of Colorado, so 1 out of 3 is seriously disappointing.
