    For those who like Bush...

I've heard conflicting reports.. so it's possible that the bill signed back on Saturday the 13th wasn't Patriot II but it was something. If anybody has a clue what was signed. Feel free to bring it up.

I think the Yankees should be thankful that they'll get three draft picks for Wells. And San Diego's picking first in the 2004 draft, so the 2nd and 3rd round picks could be useful.

    For those who like Bush...

Actually.. the wiretaps are more likely to help, but some people can be suspicious since there's less regulations for that sort of phonetapping. As for library searches.. how would knowing the books that somebody got from a library help you figure out if he's going to commit a terrorist action Actually, from what I understand. Patriot II was passed and signed this month. Congressmen, hopefully, don't write legislation and pass it because it has a cool sounding name. All possibilities, no matter how absurd. Well, great. Bush doesn't need to say anything. Except for the fact that political talk has grown more divisive and polarized than ever. Except presiding over one of the best stretches in the economy and not screwing it up. Not to mention some of the bigger gains on Wall Street. (Sure, it turned out there was some number games going on during his watch and in 2001) First off.. I think it's a big feat I found one of the charts for this. It does confirm that ST Interest rates went up in 1994 (from 3.2 to 4.7). But, looking at the chart, 4.7 was lower than anything under Reagan and it was the third lowest from 1983 to 1994. I found this too http://www.bestmortgage.com/interest.html "The "Fed" was largely responsible for the big jump in mortgage interest rates in 1994 when it raised short-term interest rates seven times during that year in an effort to head-off rising inflation. Then, in 1995, mortgage rates dropped almost two full percentage points from the high point of December 1994. Ironically, the Fed had virtually nothing to do with the rate drop because it did not reduce its short-term interest rates during that period at all. Interest rates bottomed out again in February of this year, then jumped up sharply in March due to renewed inflation fears." Except actually signing the budgets that balanced it. and it stayed healthy too for awhile. Just like the Republicans predicted back then too! I could actually say the same too. It's quite the phrase. and that was 5 years ago. Does that mean we found something? It was all Clinton Clinton Clinton. I guess they're to blame for exaggerating Iraqi weapons and the such. If only it weren't for Clinton. and we needed the Patriot Act because.. why? It's just that if you break it down, it's saying that Terrorists are using information for attacks. Which is a god damn obvious statement. What else would they use? Guesses? But, still.. watch out for people with almanacs and any markings they may put in them. (Note: hopefully terrorists with almanacs have not heard this and ditched their almanacs) this wasn't contrast and compare Mike.. this was just about Bush.

    For those who like Bush...

I don't mean 'divisive' as in 'Not working with Democrats'. I mean divisive in the sense the sense that what Bush has done has helped polarize the left and right. Yeah, he worked with Ted Kennedy. Good for him. I might be getting my education bills mixed up, but didn't he work with Kennedy on the No Child Left Behind? The one that gives the military the chance to call and send recruiting stuff to High School students and also has threatened accreditation for not reaching a certain level on tests (no matter how much the school may have improved. As for Bush being buddies with the Democrats. I really doubt that. Right now.. it seems to be improving. We'll see if that keeps up. And we'll see if jobs are included in this improvement. Yeah.. not with the exact word 'imminent'. Would you say that compared with what was said about Saddam and his arsenal, that there was an exaggeration. and certainly the various wiretapping and library book searching will go a long ways to stopping attacks. Scenario: what happens if there is an attack. Do we pass another Patriot Act? Just wondering. so.. if the government was allowed to do this.. why did we need to pass the Patriot Act? You never know if the next terrorist will have a 2004 Almanac with him. Then who'll look stupid. The very idea of the Almanac warning is just basically 'Warning: Terrorists may be using information'. Well, no shit? Any idea when we'll get an advisory to be suspicious of people using Yahoo and Hotmail, since terrorists were known to use their services? Any idea of when we can hear a warning about Internet users. Since, there's probably some seasonal information on some webpage. I will compliment Dan Rather for presenting that news yesterday with a straight face. Anyways..

Then again, finding deception and finding weapons are two different things. http://www.whitehouse.gov/news/releases/20...20030205-1.html (Powell addresses the UN. Wasn't this the statement with the multiple satelite photos of where the WMDs were) I won't get into the whole 'Must prove you have destroyed this', 'proving a negative' sort of stuff. First off, I presume proving destruction involves a camera showing you getting rid of the 25,000 liters of Anthrax. One more thing I'm not quite in agreement with Bush on. I'm not quite as enthusiastic about this 'Palestinean state' talk. Face it, the Palestineans have continually blown all their chances for peace. A Palestinean state is impractical and it would be a danger to Israel. (Yes, I swerve to the right on the Israel thing. Let the Israelis do what they must to take care of the Hamas and the other terrorists.)

    For those who like Bush...

lets see.. some of the bad things Bush has done #1- He has provided the most divisive Presidency in a long time. After campaigning as a 'Uniter' #2- the economy (don't give me that new math where Clinton is to blame, and Bush has fixed it all in just 2 years) #3- Iraq. While it's nice that Iraqis are free. We didn't go there with that as the big reason. We went there because they were an immiment threat. We went there because they had weapons of mass destruction. Because they had all sorts of bad stuff. Anthrax, The Plague, Balsa Wood Planes. And, somehow, none of that has turned up in the 7 months we've been there. There's a shot something could turn up. But, the fact is that when it came to the threat from Iraq, it was greatly exaggerated. Don't get too excited if Saddam says something, unless it turns out he's actually telling the truth instead of being his usual lying self. #4- The Patriot Act and other measures have hurt the US. The very fact that we have such a god damn stupid warning for people with ALMANACS is just sad. Watch out, they might find out info about towns in an almanac. Since, there's NOWHERE ELSE THEY COULD FIND THAT. Not to mention the FBI has the powers to check library lists, books that you buy and all sorts of unnecessary invasions of privacy. There's not a plausible reason why a book list would help determine if somebody is planning a terroristic action. It's not like you can go to the Public Library and check out "How to make pipebombs". Not to mention all the other great proposals in Patriot II (which, if I recall correctly, Bush signed on the 14th. Which was just about the same time that Saddam was getting his annual beard-lice inspection on CNN.) While he's a nice guy and a baseball fan, that doesn't mean he's a good President. Jimmy Carter was a nice guy too, doesn't mean those on the other side felt he was a good president. Really, do you think the President has done the most to protect, preserve and defend the Constitution? At the very least, has he upheld his oath of office?

Ad of the day on KC radio was for the charity that donates money when the Chiefs D sacks the QB. The final line "Watch out Quarterbacks, the Chiefs defense is coming for you" somehow, I don't think that's the most intimidating threat. At least they don't have a charity for 'stopping the running back for negative yardage'. As for the playoffs.. preferably the following happens Colts win Ravens win Ravens beat Patriots Chiefs beat the Colts and the rest should be obvious (I prefer the KC/St. Louis matchup)

My crazy idea for a movie

General idea: On the retirement of Willy Wonka, the Oompa Loompas are given the choice of being free or staying at the factory. Some Oompa Loompas leave, and then they reveal to the world the cruelties they lived under. They get the World to punish their former oppressors. Some of the Oompa Loompas also get weapons restricted for their own protection in the real world. As well, they help get rid of nuclear weapons. They make crimes against O.L.'s for being OLs termed as 'hate crimes'. Their songs also become popular and entrancing for people. In the mean-time, they breed like crazy, and get more militant. Their numbers increase and they amass weapons. One day, they unleash their songs, and begin to take over power in London and Washington. Using their weapons, they kill everybody in their path and then they go to the factory. They liberate their brothers, killing the OLs unwilling to leave, and they find Willy Wonka and murder him in revenge for his oppression. Eventually, they overtake most of the world with their weapons and their songs and mankind is forced to band together to fight back against the Oompa Loompas. Sorta like in Red Dawn, only with more midget death. Anything you think could be added, clarified or explained in the movie? Is it too offensive? Would the heirs of Roald Dahl sue me?

well, by 2007, he could either choose between the money or a winning team. Helton could opt out and try to get a contract to go to another team.

    Al's MLB Power Rankings

Olivo could improve, although his hitting wasn't too great in 2003. He did throw out a higher percentage of basestealers than Pudge. Crede's OBP is rather low so far in his career and he doesn't draw many walks. Rowand may turn out well, if he gets a shot. Konerko will probably improve after his BA dropped 70 points this year.

do the Sox have any notable young hitters other than Lee and Ordonez? and Ordonez is 30 in 2004. the Sox should be bumped down because their new manager Ozzie Guillen's ambitions of trading Ordonez, Lee and Thomas in order to field a 'faster team' suggest that Ozzie's gonna tank the team big time. as for other losses.. Colon, Tom Gordon. and any word on how big a fluke Loaiza's 2003 will look like next year?
  22. http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=stor...se/senate_smith Note to self: Hillary being from Illinois or Arkansas then going to be Senator from New York = bad. Bob Smith trying to be a Senator from Florida = not as bad. Hey.. it is Bob Smith, so there's a good shot he'll fail. There's a variety of people out who want the job. Bob Smith may not have a shot against the most prominent of Republicans in that field.
