This was my reply to the original thread: I have to say I think this is a good idea, as long as it is applied to all religions. I have a firm belief that school is the last place to allow religion to enter, as it can add a number of deep divisions. To use an example, here in Northern Ireland most of the schools are for ethier Catholics or Protestants, as having mixed schools can lead to a lot of trouble. I went to a predominatly Protestant school, a few of my friends were Catholic and they would NEVER talk about their religion as they would more than likely get beaten up and verbally abused. I've seen with my own eyes what religion leads to in a school enviroment and I applaued theses steps to redeuce its influence in the school enviroment.

Awww, poor little widdums is taking his ballsy-wallsy and going home... Well, you didn't give a straight answer to a direct question ( one that I also want to know the answer to )
-
What is your problem with the ruling, if I may ask?
-
It died out there last time anyway, so no harm done. I think its an interesting issue to look at.
-
Did I? I didn't really mean it like that, what I meant was that warfare and intelligence have increased to such a degree that any guerilla activity on American soil would be very difficult and achieve little, no matter how many guns you have
-
Thats what I was thinking, but I think it was knocked back to page 2, so i assume he didn't see it
-
Um, lets face it, if your Government wanted to oppresse you, i doubt a couple of hunting rifles in your home is going to stop them. And don't you always say that that sort of thing could never happen in the U.S. anyway?
-
Does that really apply in this day and age now? It's not like the Redcoats are going to come and drag you from your home.
-
If it had only been directed at Muslims I would have had a problem, but since it is directed at all faiths I don't really have a problem with this, though like Cerebus said the only problem I could see would be an increase in the numbers attending Madrassas. Then again i've never been comfortable with faith-run schools ethier

Sure there all just godless Commies anyway (sarcasm, unless you couldn't guess)

Ignorant bullshit. In the United States, at least, any death sentence is far more extensively reviewed than any LWOP and has wholly separate sentencing appeals procedures. You actually have better chances of getting a substantially reduced sentence if you're eligible for the death penalty. As for Europe, spare me, okay? If you cretins ever decide to listen to your citizens (roughly two-thirds to three-fourths of whom want to reinstate the death penalty) - y'know, like you're supposed to, in democracies? - you can preach to us. As long as you continue to deny them the right to govern themselves and establish their own systems of justice, I don't really give a shit what you have to say. And i've just given you 10 good reasons while i'm glad politicans have decided not to listen to what SOME citizens said ( i'd like to see if you have some stats to back that up, I can see it in the U.K, but i'm not so sure about the rest of Europe)
-
Thats it exactly, not to mention the number of people who would have been liable for the death sentence, who were sent down from forced confessions and manipulated evidence ( i.e: Birmingham Six and the Guilford Four)
-
Document the last recorded instance of that happening in the United States, please. Can you prove they where all guilty? And I can't point one out in the U.S. since I don't really know of any, living in the U.K I can give you plenty of instances where people would have been killed for a crimw they didn't commit, if we still had the death penalty.
-
Heres a question, Is the death penalty still worth it if an innocent life is taken by mistake?

Dave Clarke & Chicks On Speed: What Was Her Name?

No: 3, but i'm using that to include Blair in that as well.

I don't expect much to come of this report, the remit is quite narrow, as it will investigate the political and diplomatic decisions to wage war, nor the legal basis for doing so. Plus, Lord Butler is known for showing deference to the Establishment and after the Hutton whitewash I can see the general public viewing the result with a degree of skepticisim, especialy if it exonorates the government.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/middle_east/3426703.stm I don't know whta effect this will have on Bush, but it could very well finish off Blair
-
Yeah, the problem for Blair was that he hinged the British case for war on WMD'S and he hasen't been ableto shake that off as well as Bush has. Plus the Hutton report comes out this week, and if it criticsizes Blair much, he may have no choice but to quit
