Vern, that is what every superpower thinks, i'm sure that ancient Rome thought that the empire would last forever. I could see the USA lasting a long time as it is very powerful and in a good postion, however I have always believed that things like this are cyclical and eventually it will be another countries turn.

Yes, but accidents do happen, especially in war, the kids parents would still be dead and he probably wouldn't accept "it was an accident, but at least your free" as a good explanation

Back on topic for a second, I think one of the only things that would really cause America to fall would be a 2nd civil war, but that dosen't seem likely in the near future, but in 30 - 40 years who knows. The only other thing would be a gradual decline that every superpower faces and the emergence of a new one, but I don't see that one for a long time either.

But in the end you are all people of the same God, why SHOULD it matter how you worship if it all goes to the same diety in the end? -

If it were up to me the people who did this would be rounded up and executed. If there is one thing I hate most in the world, it is the willfull destruction of unique historcal items. -
I find it amusing to compare Bush saying that this is a war to free the Iraqi people and allow them to have a democracy, when during the cold war the the C.I.A. helped overthrow the DEMOCRATICALY elected Allende government and instead put General Pinochet in his place. I'm prepared to give the new regime in Iraq a chance but i'm afraid i'm not too hopeful it will work in the long run.

Business is business. It's not like the U.S would sell weapons to dubious governments.... oh wait.

There was a program on the BBC last nite about a potential world oil crisis, in it it quoted Donald Rumsfeld back in 1998 saying that the U.S should invade Iraq to secure there oil fields. It gave a good account of why the war could be for oil. I don't think it's the only reason for the war but it's definatly A reason

Guantanamo I heard that it was someone on CNN complaning about the BBC reporting, most people in the U.K. think that the BBC is pretty fair in it's coverage of the war.
-
I'm in the U.K and i've been mainly watching BBC news, the coverage is good and most of the time they don't jump the gun on reporting things till they get all the facts. Channel 4 news is good for more in depth anaylisis, there was a great interview with some American talking head the other day when he was completley taken to task over American abuses of the Geneva convention. I've watched some of the American coverage and I have too say i'm not impressed. I watched Fox news and was nearly on the floor laughing at there "reporting", it's the most over the top, partisan, news network i've ever seen.

Too be honest I thought he was being booed for bringing a hefty dose of reality to the Oscar's, how dare this man interrupt our mastebatory Holywood love fest. Personaly, I was just annoyed that Peter O'Toole didn't get blind drunk and go on a rant when he was giving his Oscar.

http://www.guardian.co.uk/comment/story/0,...,921192,00.html I don't agree with everything in this article, but I agree that the U.S can't have it both ways with the Geneva Convention

Why does everyone keep jumping on Iran, apart from the Mullahs the country is not dangerously extremist, believe me Iran does not want any part of this.

It's time to get back to actual WRESTLING, theres no way fans are going to buy the punch and kick main event style. With guys like Benoit on the roster theres no reason not to program the fans to accept the technical style.
