    TSM Fantasy Baseball 2007

Ok, well in that case, its after midnight, and by coincidence, I'm the next pick after Jack. After much deliberation, Rockbirds take: Andruw Jones, OF, Atlanta Braves I will bump and update the Draft thread as well so people can see where we are.

    MLB All-Star Team

I actually have homework to complete, but nothing like a good baseball exercise to waste my time! Here's what I came up with a little bit of creative positioning in the starting lineup, having a balanced bench with some heavy pinch hitters and trying to have a bullpen with some balance to it: SEA: Ichiro Suzuki, CF CHC: Alfonso Soriano, 2B STL: Albert Pujols, 1B BOS: David Ortiz, DH NYY: Alex Rodriguez, 3B ANA: Vladimir Guerrero, RF BAL: Miguel Tejada, SS FLA: Miguel Cabrera, LF DET: Ivan Rodriguez, C ATL: Brian McCann, C TEX: Mark Teixera, 1B PHI: Ryan Howard, 1B NYM: Jose Reyes, IF KaC: Mark Teahen, IF COL: Matt Holliday, OF SaF: Barry Bonds, OF PIT: Jason Bay, OF MIN: Johan Santana, SP TOR: Roy Halladay, SP HOU: Roy Oswalt, SP ARZ: Brandon Webb, SP LAD: Jason Schmidt, SP MIL: Ben Sheets, P CLE: C.C. Sabathia, P TaB: Scott Kazmir, P CIN: Aaron Harang, P SaD: Trevor Hoffman, RP CHW: Bobby Jenks, RP WSH: Chad Cordero, RP OAK: Huston Street, RP

See, that's what I'm afraid of. If someone else does take over his team, I don't want them to be screwed in making picks. But, I will go with this idea if people think its more fair (keep Round 1 going, and basically give him until the end of the round to show up and then give away the team before Round 2). Ironically, I'm next to pick, so hopefully this isn't seen as a conflict of interest (heck, wasn't my suggestion!) As for the rest of the order, I will be posting before every round the official draft order for the round. If you want to plan ahead just do what I'm doing which is take the 1 through 20 order that I posted, eliminate anybody with keepers tied to a certain round and remember to reverse the order serpentine style every other round (so even rounds will be 20 to 1).

Anybody have any idea where Jack Bauer is? I said I'd wait until the end of the weekend before I give away his team. Does anybody think we should wait longer?

    TSM All-Time Baseball Tournament

Darn, that would have been my pick! I could go with one of the powerhouse teams from the 60s or 70s, but instead I'll go for something more interesting: The 1989 "Why Not?" Orioles. 1 win short of the playoffs coming off the worst season in franchise history.

That's the only thing I never did like give a week's notice to when we're starting I just sort of assumed everyone would be checking the thread and be ready to participate. He hasn't posted for a week, I've sent him an email message through his given email in his profile. I'll give until the end of the weekend for him to show back up, if he doesn't I think the fairest thing to do would be to give his team away and a new manager would take over his draft position and keeper selections. What does everyone think of that idea? And this reminds me, if like iggy, you know you're going to be gone and offline for a certain amount of time, please just let me know and I'd be happy to wait until your return.

Hah, I know. I've PMed Jack Bauer, he hasn't posted since Feb 1st. So...if anyone has any outside contact info for him, tell him to get his BUTT over here!

Done. Continue picks and discussion in this thread though and we'll have the other one as an updated reference.

Cartman- as mentioned its serpentine so it won't hurt or help anyone that dramatically. It was done this way for the benefit of fairness to our 2 new managers. They would be taking over for last year's departing 2 and it wouldn't be fair for them to inherit those positions nor would it be fair for me to assign which one gets the "high" draft position and the "low" position relative to each other. It was truly random and I hope you understand my intention.

    TSM Fantasy Baseball 2007

OK! Here we go. The Draft Order. As I said, we're doing this NBA Lottery Style. The 6 teams that made the playoffs last year are automatically seeded 15-20 in reverse order from their final standings. Here they are: 15. Serenity (thepinjockey) 16. Brockvegas Posse (treble) 17. Landfall Jacobites (Verne Gagne) 18. John Galt Express (Stephen Joseph) 19. Infinie93Intensity (Cena's Writer) 20. Cranky Old Men (iggymcfly) Now, for the rest of the teams, I used the same randomizer site I used last year, found here: http://www.mdani.demon.co.uk/para/random.htm I assigned numbers to the remaining teams, again based on reverse standings: THIS IS NOT THE DRAFT ORDER!!! 1. Cartman- Pawtucket Patriots 2. Jack Bauer-Formally Wart’s Whackos 3. Cuban Linx- Scott Boras Allstars 4. Razaztec- Midcard 4 Life 5. Deep_Thought- Stay the Course 6. Bored- Rebels of Oakland 7. Marvinsalunatic- NuclearChinlocks 8. Krankor- The Random Hero 9. Will Scarlet- Komijul 10. Canadian Chris- Team Canada 11. Precious Roy- Formally jwpeer 12. Fökai - Heavy Lumber 13. Kingofthe909- Kings of Crunk 14. MJ Styles- Rockbirds I then asked to generate 14 integers between 1 and 14 with no repeats. I clicked "GO" one time and the resulting output resulted in the order: 10 11 8 6 3 9 12 2 4 14 5 13 7 1 Once again, I did not fair so well, which should provide further credibility that this was done fairly and honestly and I guess build credit for one of these days when I'm given a top draft number. This resulted in the following DRAFT ORDER: 1. Canadian Chris- Team Canada 2. Precious Roy- Formally jwpeer 3. Krankor- The Random Hero 4. Bored- Rebels of Oakland 5. Cuban Linx- Scott Boras Allstars 6. Will Scarlet- Komijul 7. Fökai - Heavy Lumber 8. Jack Bauer-Formally Wart’s Whackos 9. Razaztec- Midcard 4 Life 10. MJ Styles- Rockbirds 11. Deep_Thought- Stay the Course 12. Kingofthe909- Kings of Crunk 13. Marvinsalunatic- NuclearChinlocks 14. Cartman- Pawtucket Patriots 15. Serenity (thepinjockey) 16. Brockvegas Posse (treble) 17. Landfall Jacobites (Verne Gagne) 18. John Galt Express (Stephen Joseph) 19. Infinie93Intensity (Cena's Writer) 20. Cranky Old Men (iggymcfly) Obviously you all can keep your team names or change them when we actually set up the yahoo league, but I'm just using last year's names for now to keep track of things. Now, of course, because of our Keeper Rule, there will be different actual orders in many different rounds. SO, I thought about calculating it all out at once and posting it, before realizing this would be incredibly tedious for me and confusing for all of you to keep track of. SO, what we'll do is go round by round. I'll post the corrected Round 1 draft order, everyone will post their picks in order and then I'll log it and calculate Round 2's order, post it and then we'll continue in that way. By the way, we'll be following Yahoo's serpentine system so even if you're pickinglast, you'll be first every other round. Here are the list of Unavailable players via Keepers, conveniently in alphabetical order. Please simply do a check of this list to make sure a player you want to draft is not already taken. I will update the thread as new picks are made, so they can be checked as well (Edit-Find on this page is a great quick way to check). Taken Keepers: Aaron Harang (Round 11) Adam LaRoche (Pit - 1B)- ROUND 14 Albert Pujols (Round 1) Alex Rodriguez (Round 1) Alfonso Soriano (Round 2) Anibal Sanchez (Not Drafted) Aramis Ramirez (Round 3) BJ Ryan (Round 5) BJ Upton (Round 18) Bobby Abreu (Round 1) Boof Bonser (Not Drafted) Brad Lidge (Round 4) Brandon Webb (Ari - SP)- ROUND 4 Brett Myers (Round 4) Brian McCann (Round 18) Bronson Arroyo (Round 16) Carl Crawford (Round 1) Carlos Beltran (Round 2) Carlos Guillén (Det - SS)- ROUND 9 Carlos Zambrano (ChC - SP)- ROUND 2 Chase Utley (Round 2) Chipper Jones (Round 5) Chone Figgins (Round 2) Chris Capuano (Round 9) Chris Carpenter (Round 1-pushed to Round 4) Chris Ray (Round 11) Cole Hamels (Not Drafted) Dan Uggla (Not Drafed) David Ortiz (Round 1 David Wright (Round 1) Delmon Young (Round 16) Derrek Lee (ChC - 1B)- ROUND 1 Edwin Encarnacion (Round 17) Ervin Santana (Round 9) Frank Thomas (Round 17) Garrett Atkins (Round 8) Grady Sizemore (Round 3) Hanley Ramirez (Not Drafted) Huston Street (Round 4) Jake Peavy (Round 1-pushed to Round 3) Jermaine Dye (CWS - OF)- ROUND 10 Jim Thome (Round 7) Joe Mauer (Round 3) Joel Zumaya (Not Drafted) Johan Santana (Round 1) John Smoltz (Round 4) Johnny Damon (Round 4) Jonathan Papelbon (Round 10) José Contreras (Round 7) Jose Reyes (Round 2) Josh Johnson (Not Drafted) Juan Pierre (Round 3) Justin Morneau (Round 8) Justin Verlander (Round 19) Lance Berkman (Round 3) Manny Ramirez (Round 1) Mariano Rivera (Round 4) Mark Buehrle SP (Round 3) Matt Cain (Round 8) Matt Holliday (Round 7) Michael Young (Round 1) Miguel Cabrera (Round 1- pushed to Round 4) Miguel Tejada (Round 1) Nick Markakis (Not Drafted) Pat Burrell (Round 5) Paul Konerko (Round 3) Pedro Martinez (Round 1-pushed to Round 2) Rafael Furcal (Round 3) Rich Harden (Round 2) Rickie Weeks (Round 6) Roy Halladay (Round 2) Roy Oswalt (Round 1) Ryan Howard (Round 2) Scott Kazmir (Round 8) Scott Rolen (StL - 3B)- ROUND 5 Tom Gordon (Phi - RP)- ROUND 10 Travis Hafner (Round 3) Vernon Wells (Round 4) Vladimir Guerrero (Round 1) Any questions? We're doing it this early because its going to take a long time. You don't have a 1st or 2nd round pick anyway, and I'd be happy to delay the start of the 3rd round until the 13th.

    TSM Fantasy Baseball 2007

Hah, thanks for that, that actually helps make my life a little easier going forward too. I'm just going to say for the sake of expediency and clarity that we put a freeze on trades until the draft is over and teams are formed. We don't want this to turn into the NBA draft where I'm Commisioner Stern walking to the podium every 2 minutes to announce "we have another trade!" and get booed off (probably by angry Knick fans).

    TSM Fantasy Baseball 2007

OK, with 17 voting, Slugging Percentage wins and replaces Hits as the 6th offensive stat. Slugging: 9 Doubles: 4 Hits: 2 Abstain: 2 Like I said, I have Round 1 all ready to go, and will likely post it tomorrow evening, so everyone start paying attention because this thing will depend on cooperation to run smoothly. Any last minute pre-draft questions, let me know!

    TSM Fantasy Baseball 2007

OK, I think a combination of enough people liking holds and no real alternative stat for pitchers being presented (besides the suggested of losses or homeruns allowed (which doesn't exist as an avaliable stat according to yahoo) means we'll keep the pitching stats as is. Now, I think we have enough discussion on hits vs. doubles vs. slugging % to warrant a VOTE~! so I will PM everyone and each manager can vote for which one of the 3 they'd like to have. I'll say you have until the end of the weekend to respond, but please do respond as soon as you can so we can move on quicker. Like I said, I have Round 1 ready to go but I want to wait to settle these issues before posting it.

    TSM Fantasy Baseball 2007

Ok, perhaps we should do another PM poll so this thing is democratic. For what its worth I've finished calculating the draft order for Round 1 but will hold off on posting it until these issues are set since they'll likely effect player selections. Any other statistical categories any of you wish to nominate, please post them. Probably tommorow I'll send out PMs and we can vote.

    TSM Fantasy Baseball 2007

I actually really like holds since we have 20 teams, rosters need to be deep, and thus it gives non-closer relief pitchers a stat that gives them purpose on the roster. Why get rid of hits? I guess Im not as open to changing them as I suggested. More a guide for what to draft for. That reminds me, here are the roster spots: C, 1B, 2B, 3B, SS, OF, OF, OF, Util, SP, SP, SP, RP, RP, P, P, BN, BN, BN, BN, DL, DL

    TSM Fantasy Baseball 2007

Stephen pleaded his case. I wasn't happy with it but it would have been a tough decision either way, so I allowed it. Now, before I post the draft order, we need to review our stats from last year, 6 offensive and 6 pitching. Runs Hits Home Runs RBIs Stolen Bases On-base Percentage Wins Saves Strikeouts WHIP ERA Holds Everybody OK with these again? I'd rather not add any more, lest things get too bloated.

Ok, thanks guys. I'll have the list of taken players and a complete draft order up sometime in the next few days. And then we can begin THE DRAFT~!
  20. Styles

    TSM Fantasy Baseball 2007

OK, I've compiled the list of players on jWeeper and Wart's final rosters that will be up for grabs in this supplemental keeper draft for our two new managers. The way it works is you two will go back and forth drafting until each of you has selected 4 "keepers". Note that I noted each round that a player was drafted in last year's draft. So again, to review, if you choose a player drafted in Round 2, you lose your second round pick in this year's upcoming draft. If you choose an undrafted player you lose your last round (so 20th or if you choose 2 undrafted 20th, 19th, etc.). There's no fair way to say who goes first, so I'll just say "early bird gets the worm" and since Jack Bauer replied first, he gets first pick followed by Precious Roy and you guys will go back and forth, indicating in this thread which player you have chosen (please feel free to make ample use of the google image search and image tags to give a visual representation of your player as well!): Pick 1: Jack Bauer- Carlos Zambrano (ChC - SP)- ROUND 2 Pick 2: Precious Roy- Brandon Webb (Ari - SP)- ROUND 4 Pick 3: Jack Bauer- Carlos Guillén (Det - SS)- ROUND 9 Pick 4: Precious Roy- Jermaine Dye (CWS - OF)- ROUND 10 Pick 5: Jack Bauer- Adam LaRoche (Pit - 1B)- ROUND 14 Pick 6: Precious Roy- Tom Gordon (Phi - RP)- ROUND 10 Pick 7: Jack Bauer- Scott Rolen (StL - 3B)- ROUND 5 Pick 8: Precious Roy- Derrek Lee (ChC - 1B)- ROUND 1 Andy Pettitte (NYY - SP)- ROUND 2 C.C. Sabathia (Cle - SP)- ROUND 6 Danys Báez (Bal - RP)- ROUND 12 David Eckstein (StL - SS)- ROUND 12 Dustin Hermanson (CWS - RP)- ROUND 14 Emil Brown (KC - OF)- ROUND 18 Eric Hinske (Bos - 1B,3B,OF)- ROUND 20 Héctor Carrasco (LAA - SP,RP)- ROUND 18 Jason Bay (Pit - OF) – ROUND 1 John Patterson (Was - SP)- ROUND 5 Johnny Estrada (Mil - C)- NOT DRAFTED (LOSE LAST AVALIABLE ROUND) Ken Griffey Jr. (Cin - OF)- ROUND 6 Kevin Mench (Mil - OF)- ROUND 9 Kevin Millwood (Tex - SP)- ROUND 8 Marcus Thames (Det - OF)- NOT DRAFTED (LOSE LAST AVALIABLE ROUND) Mark Loretta (Hou - 1B,2B)- ROUND 8 Mike González (Atl - RP)- ROUND 11 Mike Jacobs (Fla - 1B)- ROUND 14 Mike Lowell (Bos - 2B,3B)- ROUND 19 Mike MacDougal (CWS - RP)- ROUND 11 Noah Lowry (SF - SP)- ROUND 7 Pablo Ozuna (CWS - 3B,SS,OF)- NOT DRAFTED (LOSE LAST AVALIABLE ROUND) Paul Lo Duca (NYM - C)- ROUND 16 Pedro Feliz (SF - 1B,3B,OF)- ROUND 13 Rafael Betancourt (Cle - RP)- ROUND 19 Randy Winn (SF - OF)- ROUND 7 Reed Johnson (Tor - OF)- NOT DRAFTED (LOSE LAST AVALIABLE ROUND) Richie Sexson (Sea - 1B)- ROUND 3 Scott Eyre (ChC - RP)-NOT DRAFTED (LOSE LAST AVALIABLE ROUND) Scott Podsednik (CWS - OF) – ROUND 4 Shannon Stewart (Min - OF)- ROUND 13 Tom Glavine (NYM - SP)- ROUND 15 Zach Duke (Pit - SP)- ROUND 3

Baseball and Football aren't a disease, but if you're playing Fantasy hockey, or Fantasy Golf, or Fantasy NASCAR then you have a problem.. No, they're all shit. It makes people fret about individual achievements instead of wins and losses, which are supposed to really matter. Plus you get weird statements like "man, I hope the Cubs win today, but I hope they make sure Jeff Suppan gets six good innings first." "YEAH T.O.!" "You hate the Cowboys" "He's on my fantasy team" Could you continue this in another thread?

    TSM Fantasy Baseball 2007

Not counting me and Stephen there are 18 other managers. It will probably take me a couple more days to get all the info together in terms of preparing for the draft, so if before then 10 managers post here or PM me to officially disapprove of allowing the keeper swap, I'll veto my original decision. If less then a majority of manage's bitch though, it will be sustained. I'm for the people.
  23. Styles

    TSM Fantasy Baseball 2007

TJ surgery is most certainly not end of career, many pitchers come back even better. Its too bad Chris Carpenter's career was over though. Oh, wait. Anyway, ok, I'll make an executive decision while reserving the right to change my mind if enough people bitch about it. I figure since your not just keeping the injured player, it puts Liriano back on the market for anyone who wants to keep him for the long term like next season. I'll allow you to swap. Now, SP made another suggestion regarding the new managers. Since, the 2 new manager's are essentially taking over for the departing two, and since we've found the final rosters from last season, that their preliminary Keeper draft would be limited to the rosters of those 2 teams (I wouldn't designate one team to each manager because there's no fair way to do that). What does everyone think of that idea. I like it, I must say, so again, unless there is much bitching, I'll say that's the way we do it.
