    The Smart Marks' Countdown: Iraq

A democratic solution would be super. I think we've been working on that since 91 and the UN Resolutions haven't really done anything other than provide Saddam with quality toilet paper. If the UN won't enforce it's own policies why should Saddam worry about being taken out of power?

    Necrophilia angle

I wish bodily harm to Gerwitz. Is that wrong?

That's the problem - the "world" (almost everyone outside of the US and UK) have shown that they aren't interested in this. Otherwise we would not be in this position today.

The thing is, he's had 12 years to do with it whatever he wants. They might still be in the country, they might not be. But they weren't destroyed.

    The Smart Marks' Countdown: Iraq

As I remember, we were not allies of Iran back in the late 70s when they were holding several Americans hostage. Hmm, here's an idea. Saddam hates America, he pays the families of homocide bombers, and he donated quite a bit of money to bin Laden's group several years ago. I'd say he supports terrorism. There's also that thing about him not complying with ... how many is it now ... 18 resolutions over the past 12 years? It's good that he got rid of 10 missiles - but what about the other 190 that are missing? Yeah, those inspections sure are working. Maybe if we could just hurry up and take care of Saddam then we could turn our attention to the other countries that need a severe talking to like Saudi and North Korea. What would you suggest?

    The Smart Marks' Countdown: Iraq

Hi, This is 2003, not the 50s. There was this little thing a while back called 9/11. It kinda said that we can't afford to pull the benign neglect card anymore when it comes to hateful regimes that threaten us (and I don't see how that can be argued but feel free). Um, what draft? Draft = scare tactic. Iraq is not worth establishing a draft for. I know it's good to be prepared but that's like killing a bug with a machine gun. I'm not supporting the government because it told me to - I'm supporting it because it provides a logical course of action. If it were up to me, I would have opted to take Saddam out of power in 91. Better yet, I would have put a bullet in his head while he was being removed from power. You know what the Arab nations mean when they say invading Iraq will result in destabalizing the region? It means it would be establishing democracy. Democracy = scary for them. So your argument for not going to war is that the people of Iraq suffer enough? Okay, let's just do nothing about that. Because obviously if we took a course of action that resulted in them being freed from an oppressive regime - that would be a bad thing ... right? All that money that Iraq makes off of its oil doesn't even go to the people. You think that maybe if it did, they wouldn't be starving so much?

I'm not generalizing. There are some conservative people in Hollywood (about as rare as a bigfoot sighting, but they are there). What I'm trying to say is that Hollywood by and far would do anything for Clinton / Gore. Think about all the campaign fundraisers, those who stayed at the White House over those 8 years, hell - Tommy Lee Jones was Al Gore's college roommate. I'm not saying they hate everything conservative - I just think they loved the previous administration. And if that had continued on some level, they would be supporting it.

    Bush and God

He couldn't find a publisher willing to pay his price so he's sitting it out until the 2nd coming.

What I'm saying is that if Gore won and decided to go to war with Saddam he would be critisised by Hollywood. Probably not as harshly, but he would still be critisised. Hollywood is always looking for a cause to jump onto. The prospect of war is just too great for them not to. Well you're making a blanket statement when you portray Hollywood as simply the dissenting opinion of the government. I've no doubt that there would be some outspoken peace lovers but most of these uber liberal actors would be supporting the Clinton / Gore "legacy".

    The OTHER Radicals

Nope. It was Malenko v. Kidman in a catch as catch can match. Kidman v. Saturn was a bunkhouse match. Wall v. Kidman was a caged heat match. Yep. If Kidman / Malenko was a bunkhouse match it wouldn't have mattered if Malenko rolled out to the floor.
  11. I know it's going to be on the news networks but the big 4 (NBC, Fox, ABC, CBS) don't have to carry it if they don't want to.

    The OTHER Radicals

Was that the same gauntlet that had Dean Malenko losing a match by stepping outside? Yeah, it was supposed to be a 2 out of 3 falls for the U.S. strap with one fall being a straight up mat wrestling bout, another was a cage, forgot what the third was.

    Bush and God

What, a President with strong religious convictions? Can't have that, it would offend too many people! Listen, America's national religion is Christianity. That's why we don't have to go to school or work on Christmas and Easter. Yes, we're all about religious freedom - and we have that in this country more than anywhere else - but I don't like when people that don't buy into Christianity or don't have the same perspectives rag on those that do. To each their own. Bush is not Falwell. When Bush blames 9/11 on gays, then bash him for his asshole remarks.

    The Smart Marks' Countdown: Iraq

So you're saying that people like Martin Sheen and Susan Sarrandon who gave Gore thousands if not millions of dollars during his 2000 campaign would be his harshest critics today as they are Bush's? As O'Reilly might say "Sorry, Senator ... but I'm not buying it."

    The OTHER Radicals

Kidman was given a big push right from the start. Souled Out 2000 - the show that featured the last TV appearance of the Radicalz - included Kidman working a gautlet match in which he advanced to the final round and was beaten by the Wall inside a cage. He went on to feud with Hogan over the spring. That gauntlet match was a last minute substitution for the Benoit / Jarrett Best 2 of 3 falls stipulation-fest that was cancelled due to Jarrett's concusion - also why Benoit was given the title shot in the main event. I believe Mysterio was injured at this time. Konnan had burned his own bridges in the WWF. I know he worked a few shows in the early 90s - either as Konnan or, I believe, Max Moon. From what I hear, Vince was not impressed with his professionalism (showing up late, etc) and thus was not interested in picking him up. Douglas was set to work out a deal with the WWF but, as was said earlier, when the other 4 realized the WWF wouldn't be interested if he was involved they dropped him.

    Bret Hart Vs Jeff Jarrett

What's wrong with Jarrett and Shatner? Jarrett's vastly underrated and it's not like Shatner was portrayed as someone that could beat Nash for the title. I think all he did was punch the Roadie - which is cool since the Roadie had no credibility at the time anyway.
  18. It's true that Steamboat was kind of a bland face wrestler - but Flair is the only heel I recall who was cheered over Steamboat. During his first WWF stint, he was over huge. Had his own video, was in one of the biggest feuds of the time. He faced guys like Rude, Austin, and Pillman during his WCW years and they were all more charasmatic - yet Steamboat always got the overwhelming crowd applause.
  19. Yes, I too hate it when uber hot girls go out with older guys. It's lame and stupid and it makes me sad. I'm 21 and not famous - that should be enough for any famous hot girl.

    WILD TURKEYS THREATEN TOWN

Okay, this is crap. I'm not putting up with disgruntled turkeys. Let's get a UN resolution passed on this.

    The Smart Marks' Countdown: Iraq

Let's just get this over with. Once it starts, most of the military analysts are expecting it to last about 2 weeks tops. On another note, if President Gore were banging the pro-war drums (and he's said many times that he's for military action against Iraq) - not nearly as many people would be against him, especially not Hollywood.

    Diplomat Resigns

Clinton bombed Iraq a few times during his 8-year run. Didn't do much and there wasn't any government opposition. On top of that, Iraq was not seen as a big threat at the time. Times have changed. Whether someone believes it could happen or not, Saddam has the capabilities to pass his chemical weapons and whatever else into the hands of terrorists outside Iraq.

    Diplomat Resigns

Well when the Kurd issue has been brought up by everyone as fact - pro and anti-war alike, conversative and liberal alike, Fox News and CNN alike - well, then I'm inclined to believe it as fact. No, I wasn't there in person to witness it myself but I would credit it as being as factual as the Holocaust (yeah, that was real too). Bush wanted Saddam before he even took the oath; that is backed up by Bush's speech writer (don't know his name; wrote The Right Man which was recently released). Now you can look at that in many ways - you can look at it as him being an evil greedy man who wants to hook his friends up with oil at the expense of the lives of American soldiers, you can look him as being a daddy's boy who wants to appease George Sr. at the expense of the lives of American soldiers, OR you can look at him as being someone that knew Saddam needed to be taken care of at some point. Then 9/11 came along. So what before might have relied on diplomatic means, now military action is something necessary.
  24. Hooray for boobage! Now, if God will only bless me with similar lesbian nudity movies involving Eliza Dushku, Natalie Portman, and Alyson Hannigan ... well, I'll be a happy lonely man.

    Angel

Great episode. I marked out like a preschooler on sugar when Eliza made her return. Now I've only been following Angel for the past ... oh ... few months. I'm convinced that the Beast is / was working for the First. And yet he referred to Cordy as his master. Now I realize that she's touched people - so she's not an incarnation of the First - but something is up. The First can act through Willow when she tries the heavy magic...maybe the same can be said of Cordy when she gets messages from the PTB? What exactly were the circumstances regarding her becoming a divine being? Did she die or something? Everything's connected. I'm sure Joss is going to tie everything together very nicely between Buffy & Angel over the next few weeks. Loved the phone conversation with Dawn. "Oh...it's the other one..." with a dissapointed look.
