IIRC, he was with a girl and the cop got into a scuffle with her. Marty thought the cop was out of line and got involved. Probably ended up hitting the Rocker Dropper on the cop which resulted in the house arrest. He did do some singles matches, most notably one against Rick Martel, but they were taped prior to the 92 Rumble and aired afterwards.
-
Despite the huge settlement the WWF ended up paying, Marty was used pretty well after that so I'm not sure to what extent that effected his career. I think his problems with drugs and that house arrest after the Barber Shop incident probably hurt his career more than the Rocker Dropper from Hell. I'm still waiting for the crowd to start up a "Break his neck" chant for Marty, kinda like what Owen got in Montreal.

It's probably on or was on the frontpage of every page you'd get searching "WWE" or "pro-wrestling" on google, and it got some decent chants on RAW last week, I wouldn't assume that the "general audience" is that ignorant If you're doing WWE searches on Google, you're a part of the IWC. If you're a casual fan that thinks Batista has huge freaking arms and needs to kick Triple H's teeth in, you may or may not use your time online to go searching for news and rumors. The story has not hit the casual crowd to the extent it needs to for any $$$ to be made. I went to a show in Greensboro last week that had Edge on the card. One guy in the front row held up a sign regarding the situation but, from looking at the audience, I can guarantee you that probably a third to half of them didn't even have a computer. So I don't think they were up to speed. I regard those people as being part of the "general audience".

I've heard stories of Shamrock being anti-social and even dick-ish to fans during that specific timeframe but have never heard of him having heat or receiving heat from any of the boys.
-
They would have, but they got ran over by the incoming Legion of Doom who stole their spots. Then they broke up soon after. If not for LOD, they probably would have been the ones to beat the Nasty Boys. Eh, I think the only reason the Nastys got the belts at all was to drop them to the LOD. Now if it had gone Harts - Rockers - Power and Glory - LOD ... that would have been interesting. Is anyone else thinking Marty might make an appearance at WrestleMania?
-
If this were Vince Russo and not McMahon, yeah, ok, I could see it perhaps being a work or at least having it turn into a worked shoot on some level. Russo would do that because Russo is an idiot and will leave 80% of his audience confused by speaking directly to the smarks. McMahon does not nor will he ever cater specifically towards the internet wrestling community. The IWC is not the answer to Vince's financial woes. And this is the kind of story where if you're not online or if you don't read the sheets, you have no clue as to what the story is. It's not easily accesible to the general audience.

Yep, same guy.
-
Is this on the tape? Danny Bonaduce (Danny Partridge) beat Christopher Knight (Peter Brady). That was the dark match.
-
I'm sure that's not the worst thing that's been done.
-
I think the only reason Power and Glory didn't get the belts - either from the Harts or the Rockers - was because of Roma's bad attitude. No. They lost the belts before they gave their notice and Tully failed the drug test.
-
I would put Rude in eventually. It would seem somewhat wrong to include Nikolai but snub Rude. No, I don't think we're getting any more names this year. Unless it's someone like Gordon Solie.

Right now Jericho is barely above the Hurricane in terms of the WWE pecking order. The win didn't surprise me. In fact, I would have been almost shocked to see Jericho win. However, if you take a look at Edge last winter where he was right in the middle of the world title picture and you take a look at Edge today, yeah, there's a drop. He lost to HHH with no buildup and he's been Shawn's whipping boy aside from the cheap win at the Rumble. Shawn beat Edge in under 9 minutes this past weekend in Greensboro. I think that in itself is an example of his depush. An argument could be made - not that I'm making it - that Edge should have gone over in the streetfight on Raw, with or without Angle's help. For all intensive purposes, he should be built up as Batista's logical top contender after Mania but he's nowhere near that point right now. Yes, I think this situation has played a part in his smaller role on TV but I can't say with any certainty to what extent. -
More from Greensboro Kane / Tomko finish Hassan's entrance Orton takes a chair to the head Flair finally tags out to Triple H Main Event tag match finish

I shot plenty of video in Greensboro on Saturday (Raw) and Roanoke last night (SD taping). I'll try to post what I can. Here's the first - Chris Jericho vs. Christian - Finish

I called the WWF Hotline once when I was in-between moves. This was around the time of IYH 4 and I was without cable for 2 weeks so I was completely lost (Razor wins IC, Douglas, HBK Syracuse incident, Avatar, Wildcard match announced, etc). I called the WCW Hotline only once - the night of GAB 96. I was really into the buildup but went on vacation and didn't get to see the show so I called after it went off the air. Damn, that Mike Tenay sure can talk slow.

It wasn't specified.

- The WrestleMania ‘Lonely Road of Faith’ video was shown; I had read recent reports stating Bret Hart received boos during his segments and that was the case as well in Roanoke Dark match Joey Matthews & Johnny Nitro (w/ Melina) defeated Nunzio & Shannon Moore at 5:23 when Matthews pinned Nunzio after a flapjack / DDT double team move; Matthews, Nitro, and Melina had tons of charisma Velocity Doug & Danny Basham defeated Hardcore Holly & Charlie Haas at 6:50 when Danny pinned Holly when, as Holly attempted the Alabama Slam, Doug kicked him allowing Danny to use a sunset flip to get the pin - The Basic Instinct WrestleMania ad was shown Spike Dudley pinned Scotty 2 Hotty at 6:00 when, as Scotty attempted a suplex into the ring, Spike flipped over, used a roll up, and grabbed the ropes for leverage - Shirts were shot out to the crowd Paul London pinned Akio at 11:07 when, immediately after Akio hit a hurricanrana off the top, London used a roll over intro a bridge to get the win; the bout was billed as a #1 contender match for the Cruiserweight title and Chavo Guerrero did guest commentary at ringside; after the match, Chavo and London locked eyes - The Forrest Gump Eugene WrestleMania ad was shown Booker T pinned John Heidenreich in a No DQ match at 8:43 with a good old fashioned chair shot over the head after hitting the scissors kick onto the chair and following with a Harlem side kick; not sure which program on which this will air but I assume Smackdown - A promo for HHH vs. Batista at WrestleMania aired - Smackdown began with a video recap of the previous week’s Cena / Orlando match - JBL, Orlando, and the Bashams come to the ring along with four security guards, two of which were CW Anderson and Sonjay Dutt. JBL praises the new US Champion, runs down Cena, and says he and Orlando will beat Eddie & Rey for the tag belts later in the night. In reference to Eddie & Rey, JBL said, “My family came over here in a boat, not an inner tube!”; he then turned his attention to the hubcap US title belt, saying it was an insult to the history of the championship and that John Cena had taken the title and “made it into a sideshow”; as an act of symbolism to what he will do to Cena at WrestleMania, JBL dropped the belt in a trash can inside the ring and destroyed it thanks to some nifty pyro. In its place, the champion then presented Orlando – direct from WWE Headquarters – with the previous version of the US title belt. - The Braveheart Triple H WrestleMania ad ran. - A clip of Randy Orton challenging the Undertaker to a match at WrestleMania aired. - Teddy Long was shown backstage with Carlito. Long played up Orton’s challenge and then ordered Carlito to go find the Undertaker to see whether or not Taker would accept the challenge. Carlito was not pleased. - Eddie & Rey were shown backstage talking about their title defense against JBL & Orlando. Chavo comes in and half-heartedly wishes the two good luck. - Josh Matthews was shown waiting outside the arena, microphone in hand. - Carlito was shown somewhere in the arena looking for the Undertaker. At one point, the lights unexpectedly go out, causing Carlito to scream like a girl. As it turns out, it was just one of the stage guys flipping the switch, not knowing Carlito was in the area. Mark Jindrak pinned Luther Reigns at 3:01 with a left hand punch. Jindrak jumped Reigns from behind as Luther was coming to the ring to start the match. - John Cena is shown arriving to the arena and blows past Josh Matthews, simply saying he’s on his way to the ring. - Cena comes out to the ring with a steel rod in hand and calls out JBL, Orlando, and the Bashams. The crowd continuously chants “Cena! Cena!” all the way through the segment. After a few moments, Teddy Long comes out and grants Cena a rematch against Orlando for the US title but Cena isn’t concerned about championships, he simply wants to kick the Cabinet’s ass, JBL included. Long says he can’t give him JBL because he doesn’t want an injury that could throw the Smackdown main event at WrestleMania in jeopardy. Cena replies by saying, “In this situation, you’re either part of the solution or part of the problem”. Since Long won’t give him JBL, Long is obviously part of the problem so Cena drops him with the FU. - More shirts are shot out to the crowd. During the segment, a ladder is positioned in the ring and Angle’s gold belt is lowered on a cable from the rafters. Kurt Angle defeated Mike Haywood in the Kurt Angle Invitational ladder match at 2:11 after applying the ankle lock. Angle never used the ladder as a weapon, stating he could put on a better ladder match than Shawn Michaels could at WrestleMania X. Prior to the bout, Angle had clips shown of HBK / Razor to refresh everyone’s memory. After the bout, Angle cut a promo at the top of the ladder, first mentioning how easy the ladder match was (“How hard was that?”), then having a clip of the Rockers at WrestleMania V shown, and saying Marty Jannetty was responsible for carrying the Rockers and had taught Michaels most of what he knows. Then, in a major shocker, Angle stated he would face Marty Jannetty in the ring the following week. - The Dirty Harry / Undertaker WrestleMania ad was shown. - Josh Matthews interviewed the Big Show (w/ Joy Giovanni) backstage in which Show accepted Akebono’s challenge to a sumo match at WrestleMania. A clip of their face-to-face confrontation in Japan was shown to refresh everyone’s memory. - A video rundown of the matches signed for WrestleMania is shown with new additions being Trish / Christy and the 6-way ladder match. - A promo for Christy’s Playboy was shown. - Carlito comes out to the ring and kindly asks the Undertaker to please come out and respond to Randy Orton’s challenge to a match at WrestleMania, fearing that if he could not find Taker or get a response Teddy Long would fire him. Taker comes out to a thunderous ovation, immediately puts a choke on Carlito and cuts a promo saying that Orton would rest in peace at WM 21. Taker then hit the tombstone on Carlito. - The Cabinet is shown backstage making their way to the ring. - The Pulp Fiction WrestleMania ad was shown. - The Hall of Fame segment was shown. Piper and Hogan got huge ovations. Only one person did I see boo Hogan’s segment. - Randy Orton vs. the Undertaker is made official for WrestleMania by getting its own logo. WWE Smackdown! Tag Team Champions Eddie Guerrero & Rey Mysterio Jr. defeated WWE Smackdown! World Champion John Bradshaw Layfield & WWE US Champion Orlando Jordan via disqualification at 14:15 when, as Rey attempted the 619 on Orlando, JBL hit the champion with a steel chair. The Bashams were in JBL and Orlando’s corner early on but were sent backstage at 7:30 for interfering. After the match, the Bashams returned and helped in beating down Eddie and Rey. Cena eventually ran out of the crowd – just a few feet away from me – jumped over the barrier and into the ring to make the save. I’m assuming the show ends with Cena in the ring having a stare-down with JBL in the crowd, who was just a few feet away. - Cena cuts a long promo on JBL which eventually leads to the dark match main event. John Cena & the Big Show defeated WWE Smackdown! World Champion John Bradshaw Layfield & WWE US Champion Orlando Jordan at 13:22 when Cena pinned Orlando with the FU and the Five Knuckle Shuffle; after the match, Cena left through the crowd A very hot crowd. Small arena, maybe 8-9,000, but a very strong turn out compared to cards held there over the past few years. I was told they were expecting a sell out and after looking around it certainly seemed that way. No clue about how many were freebies. This was the first time back since July 04 (Cena / JBL which drew horribly) and the first WWE TV taping here since November 1997 (Neidhart / HHH). After the show, I met the Basham Brothers at Hooters. Very nice guys.

I don't get it either but when he was featured in the video, he received scattered boos. And I don't mean scattered boos along with a big ovation, I mean silence and scattered boos.

No, just the Harlem sidekick.

WWE @ Greensboro, NC March 5, 2005 Special Events Center @ Greensboro Coliseum Complex I arrived to the arena a few hours before the show, early enough to see the arrivals of Dean Malenko, Arn Anderson, Christian & Jonathan Coachman (together), Chris Benoit & Tyson Tomko (together), Gene Snitsky & someone with him, Val Venis, Trish Stratus, Mike Chioda, Victoria, Chris Jericho, Edge, Christy Hemme, and Kane. Notes: Christy is rather scrubby looking without the make up. Out of everyone that I saw arrive, the only two that were up for signing some autographs were Victoria and Chioda, both of which I had sign my WrestleMania XX ticket. I would have paid good money to get Benoit’s autograph. He’s doing a 2-hour signing in Raleigh on Monday. I’m considering going but it would require me to skip a full day of classes which I’m not thrilled about doing. Very small venue. A few thousand, if that, but packed to capacity. It had the look of a decent-sized high school gym. WWE Raw Tag Team Championship: William Regal & Tajiri © vs. Rob Conway & Sylvian Grenier. Regal over Conway at 8:42 with a knee to the head. Entertaining but basic opener. Chris Masters over Val Venis via submission with the full nelson at 8:21. A brief chant of “Steroid monkey” was directed at Masters during the bout. Jonathan Coachman brings out Christy Hemme to talk about her Playboy cover. Trish Stratus soon follows which brings out Victoria. WWE Women’s Championship: Trish Stratus © vs. Victoria. Trish picks up the win at 5:04 with her feet on the ropes after the challenger missed a moonsault. Chris Jericho defeated Christian via submission with the Walls of Jericho at 11:52. Travis Tomko was in Christian’s corner until the 5-minute mark when he was sent backstage for tripping Jericho. Kane pinned Tyson Tomko with the chokeslam at 4:24. Chris Benoit defeated Mohammad Hassan (w/ Daivari) via disqualification at 8:20 when Daivari interfered as Hassan was caught in the Crippler Crossface. After the match, Benoit also locked Daivari in the hold. They must really see a lot in Hassan to have him not even lose via pinfall or submission on a house show. Intermission WWE IC Champion Shelton Benjamin pinned Gene Snitsky at 9:28 with a spin kick as Snitsky held the opposite leg. After the bout, Snitsky attacked Benjamin to regain some of his heat. Shawn Michaels pinned Edge with the superkick at 8:51 after Edge began arguing with the referee for not counting HBK down for 3, moments after Edge countered Michaels’ initial attempt at the superkick by landing the spear. After the bout, I noticed a “Edge Betrayed V1” sign in the front row of the opposite side of the ring which had me laughing pretty hard. I didn’t expect anyone in attendance to know about that situation. Batista defeated WWE Raw World Champion Triple H & Ric Flair in a handicap match at 14:40 by pinning HHH with the spinebuster and sit-down powerbomb after dropping Flair with the spinebuster. Randy Orton was to have been Batista’s partner but was attacked 2-on-1 before Batista’s entrance, ultimately sustaining a chair shot to the head by HHH which took him out of the match before it even began. Batista then challenged HHH & Flair to a handicap match which was quickly accepted. During the bout, Flair – the hometown hero – was portrayed as completely weak as Batista no-sold all his chops and, when locked in the figure-4, rolled over to reverse the hold almost instantaneously. Batista was easily the most over name on the show. No clue why Orton was written off so early. He was only out there maybe 5 minutes, 3 of which was him selling the chair shot. Good show, despite many in the crowd who pissed me off by standing in front of me to take their precious upclose photographs. I expected more from Edge / HBK; no blood or anything like but I was surprised it didn’t even go 9 minutes.

Any more info on how good this was? It was very good. Not as good as WrestleMania but with some comedy thrown in. The crowd was into it and it was the first match of the night that had my full attention.
-
Well they had that ACC women's BB game in the main venue. I'm guessing that was scheduled before the WWE gave them a call. My vantage point was decent but since I was in the front row of the "bleachers" section (the folding chair row), my view was blocked every time someone wanted to walk by to take a good picture or the entire front row wanted to stand. I missed the death stare altogether.
-
Surprisingly, it wasn't awful. Thank you, Val. I was waiting for another Polish Hammer of Doom. It never came.
-
It was my understanding, and I could be wrong, that the WWF didn't really want her at all since there were plenty of stories of her being a backstage diva in WCW.
-
Yeah, Jericho didn't say Raw superstars, did he? He just said WWE. Maybe it's too early to read much into that but that would make for a great interpromotional match.
