Akeem was subbing for a recently released Bad News Brown.

Yes ... in bizarro world.

I seem to remember him being the referee that saw 2 Doinks at WrestleMania 9 and tried to prove it by looking underneath the ring.

Except for the fact that Orton won't be in the Royal Rumble match, due to him most likely having a World Title match at the Rumble. On Tuesday, they had Orton vs. HHH listed on WWE.com as a match scheduled for the Rumble. It's since been removed.

IIRC, Kamala II worked for All Japan. The original may have been over there as well.

What happened in the WWF the day you were born?

So if Hogan was main eventing in 1980, what did he do until his return (was it 84?)? I am really uneducated on my old school wrestling. I believe that he filmed Rocky III, was kicked out of WWF for it and not showing the dates, then went to AWA...before Vince Jr. called him up to return to WWF and the rest is history. And several tours of Japan. -

It is an odd match. Vince had Bruno fill in for a coked-out Jake Roberts several times during the summer of 87. Who knows exactly what Jake was up to but I'm sure it was no good. Bruno even went over Honky via pinfall in a 6-man elimination match at the Boston Garden. -
The site itself never went away. The message board, however, is being worked on.

How often did matches like this happen back then? Not often but the champion vs. champion matches did happen every now and again. Backlund vs. Bockwinkel (AWA champ), Backlund vs. Race (NWA champ), Superstar vs. Race (NWA champ), Backlund vs. Flair (NWA champ). Most of them took place out of the W/WWF territory but Race / Backlund did MSG once. That wasn't their only match. -

Ha! I got the Backlund / Steele blowoff in Portland a few weeks later. -
I'm borrowing this idea from the Old School Wrestling message board. I think most of us would agree that the WWF during this time had more than it's share of flaws. So, if you were booking a house show, during this lead in to WrestleMania, to be held in your town, what would you want to see? You can make any matches you want - the only limitations are that there can be no more than 8 on the card.

Well before the match started, they pushed him as a heel even more by Howard Finkel announcing that the fans should not chant "USA" on behalf of Luger during the match because Davey felt left out.

WWF @ Portland, ME - August 4, 1981 Curt Hennig defeated Pete Doherty Roberto Soto defeated Johnny Rodz via disqualification WWF World Champion Bob Backlund defeated George Steele in a Texas Death Match Curt Hennig defeated Jack Davis via disqualification WWF Tag Team Champions Tony Garea & Rick Martel defeated the Moondogs Hennig working double duty. I guess someone no-showed. -
While Candido was not a part of the roster at that time (yes, he did work 1 dark match but he was NWA Champion at the time and was not on the payroll), heel turns at house shows are not out of the ordinary. 95 - Davey Boy walks out on Luger in a series of matches against the Blu Brothers, leaving Lex to fend for himself. All those took place before the Raw aired where Davey turned on Diesel. Going back even further to 78 - Peter Miavia did the exact same thing to Chief Jay Strongbow in a series of tag matches but the *REAL* turn didn't take place until the heavily advertised show at MSG.

Steve Kiern was also Doink after his run as Skinner.

IIRC, Tony Atlas is one of the guys who wouldn't testify.

Yes they did. Bummed me out the Steiners didn't take the belts off them on TV.
-
Keep in mind Skip & Sunny didn't show up until May.

Bob Holly vs. Kama - a probable stinker but I want to give Kama the monster push The 1-2-3 Kid vs. Hakushi Razor Ramon vs. Bam Bam Bigelow Davey Boy Smith vs. Owen Hart WWF Tag Team Champions the Smoking Gunns vs. the Heavenly Bodies Lex Luger vs. WWF IC Champion Jeff Jarrett Bret Hart vs. Shawn Michaels (w/ Sid) WWF World Champion Diesel vs. the Undertaker

That's even more funny considering I thought he was referring to Jim Duggan there for a minute.

1.) Favorite world title match at the PPV? Does 92 count? If not ... maybe Cactus vs. HHH in 2000 2.) Favorite Rumble match? 92 3.) Favorite Rumble match elimination? The first thing that comes to mind is Shawn eliminating both Yoko and Vader at the same time in 96. It was so over-the-top unbelievable that it always makes me laugh. 4.) Favorite mini-match within the Rumble? Flair vs. Piper, 92 5.) Favorite non-world title, non-Rumble match? The Rockers vs. the Orient Express, 91 6.) Favorite pre-Rumble promo? Sid Justice in 92 cutting a promo without even opening his mouth. 7.) Things you hated besides Vince winning the '99 Rumble? In retrospect, Vince had WAY too much of a hard-on for Yoko in 93. The man had been on TV 3 months and he killed Savage to win it. Savage vs. Bret at Mania would have been so much better.
-
Tazz was supposed to win the Royal Rumble in his debut? Vince pushing an ECW icon to the top of his roster overnight? Sounds a bit suspect.

1) Greg Valentine 2) Benoit and Eddie 3) Storm 5) Spivey 6) Killer Khan 7) Tenryu & Kitao 8) Islanders 9) Michaels

My mistake. I think it was originally posted somewhere that the show would be held the 7th. It's actually being held the 6th, which is Super Bowl Sunday. Should be interesting to see the turnout considering the time zone difference and the game (4 hours behind EST). Raw is in Everett, WA the following night.
