I love how these little "news" posts get everyone all rilled up. After a while, you guys start to sound like the angry townspeople of South Park. "RABBLE RABBLE RABBLE!" *pitchforks and torches up in the air* Settle down. Don't let some vague news from some vague source ruin the rest of your day.

I'm pretty sure that was 5/12. The live feed ran out as Bret was talking so they showed the actual kick the following week when they were in Mobile, AL (Holly beats Owen in the non-title match).

The Bashams can take on Eddie and / or Chavo as many times as they want ... the heat is not going to rub off on them.

Personally I wasn't a fan of 1999 as a whole. I think it got better towards the end of the year though, once Triple H was in the main event role. Of all the years mentioned, I believe 1997 - specifically the fall and winter which were dominated by DX version 1 - would be the most entertaining. The same could be said for most of 1998, especially the build up to Summer Slam. For 96 ... I wasn't a huge fan of Shawn's title run but there were some good episodes. Off the top of my head, early April with Vader vs. Yoko in which Vader "breaks" Yoko's leg by hitting the Vader Bomb as the leg was resting on the bottom rope. Fall 1995 had some good moments. Shawn's collapse. The 6-man tag with Taker, HBK, and Diesel against Davey, Owen, and Yoko in which the three faces take a huge beating after the match from their opponents, King Mabel, and Dean Douglas. Maybe this is just nostalgia talking but I found the 1993 episodes from the Manhattan Center to be more entertaining than anything from 94, 95, and 96. The crowd was hot for everything and the atmosphere was electric even for Bam Bam vs. Virgil.

Yep, very important to note. The policy of putting the main event - cage match or otherwise - on right before intermission is frequently done even to this day. If you look at some of the shows from the 1980s, you'd see Hogan working mid-way through the card with a match like the Rockers vs. the Conquistadors going on last. By no means was the tag match advertised as the "main event".

The mentioning of PN News makes me think this was pre Watts.

Don't think you can really call Magnum / Tully the main event on that basis. By that same logic, WrestleMania 2 was a triple main event.

Yes. Let's visit fantasy land, shall we? Kane kills HBK at Summer Slam. On the same card, Benoit narrowly avoids defeat and beats Triple H. Triple H goes off to Hollywood for a bit. What are we left with? Benoit / Kane II. They wouldn't need to do much in terms of buildup other than play off the fact that Bad Blood was such a close call and Benoit couldn't get Kane to tap to the Crossface.

IIRC, Kidman vs. Saturn was a bunkhouse match ... to play off Jarrett's bunkhouse match win over Dustin Rhodes at Starrcade.

During their initial run around the curcuit in 85-86 as well as their second run in 1989, Savage scored a great deal of count-out victories over the champion. In 86, they led to lumberjack matches (one of which was held at MSG and had George Steele costing Savage the match) and in 89 they led to steel cage matches. Of course Hogan won all of those. But in terms of pinfalls, Hogan owns Savage with 13 years worth of 1-2-3 wins.

I'm sure it was at least shown in clips but I don't think any of the 1-hour programs would allow time for a 15-minute match along with all the scheduled squashes from Hamburg and Allentown. I have the newspaper ad promoting the show and even that states that Superstar bowed out of the scheduled battle royal and opted for a title shot instead. It's posted on the website. I enjoyed it quite a bit. The matches themselves may not be much to look at but from a historical perspective (considering several of these I had never seen) I was glad to have them on there. I'm not even sure if the Superstar / Bruno match has ever been shown in full (?). I would think that they may have shown clips on the TV shows at the time but certainly not all 14 minutes. I don't even think it's on the world title CHV tape from 87. Slaughter bleeds like a stuck pig in the alley fight. Meltzer gave it the Match of the Year honors.

Degeneration X against Shamrock.... Wow, I wonder why people didn't buy that! Flashback to 1997: Shamrock was built huge, made both Bret and HBK tap in unofficial meetings, and the fans loved him. I don't think you can blame any one person for IYH DX sucking. Just blame a lot of people for the rushed promotion of lame match ups ... and throw some Montreal backlash in there too.

Was he a good IC champ? Yes. But I would still rate Michaels and Mr. Perfect ahead of him. There was no real feud with Austin, at least not over that belt. Right after he tossed the IC title into the river, Stone Cold spent the next few weeks hitting Stunners on everyone from Jeff Jarrett to Santa Claus in preperation for the Royal Rumble.
