If Horowitz gets in ... and I doubt he will for at least another 10 years ... they're not putting him solely because he lost all the time. So no, it wouldn't defeat the purpose.
  3. The Raw following Survivor Series '97 wasn't held in Detroit. It was held in Ottawa. Detroit was actually the day before the PPV.
  4. Mr. Perfect vs. Shawn Michaels - Summer Slam 93 That stellar 4 month feud needed a blow off and it didn't happen here, as it should have. Let one of them go over via pinfall, even if Diesel interfered.

*** Clash of the Champions XXI 11-18-92, Macon Coliseum, Macon, Georgia 1. Brian Pillman defeated Brad Armstrong. - This match was not aired on the television broadcast. The match was televised. It was hyped pretty big in the weeks leading up to the show - with Pillman blaming Brad for using a fake injury to get out of their title match at the September Clash - and Pillman pretty much humiliated him in the rather short bout. IIRC, he came to the ring on crutches pretending to be hurt but then nailed Brad with them. *** Halloween Havoc 1992 - Spin the Wheel, Make the Deal 10-25-92, The Civic Center, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania 3. Vader (defending Rick Rude's WCW U.S. Title) pinned Nikita Koloff with the powerbomb. An added note. I'm not sure if that was Nikita's last match but he did suffer an injury in the bout that caused him to leave WCW shortly thereafter. Also, Koloff missed the Russian Sickle on the floor - hitting the steel ring post instead and badly injuring his arm - which led to the finish ... if you want to add that. *** Clash of the Champions XIV 01-30-01, Gaineville, GA 8. Barry Windham & Arn Anderson defeated The Renegade Warriors at 7:29 when Windham defeated Jay Youngblood after a running lariat and superplex. The Renegade Warriors were Chris & Mark Youngblood, who were related to the deceased Jay Youngblood. *** Wrestle War 1991 02-24-91, Veterans Memorial Coliseum, Phoenix, Arizona 8. WCW U.S. Champion Lex Luger defeated Dan Spivey. After the bout, Nikita Koloff - who was in the audience - presented Luger with the new US title belt at the interview stage. After congratulating him on the win, he soon turned heel by blaming Luger for stealing the belt from him in 1987 and then attacked the champion. I believe this was Koloff's first appearance back since 1988. *** Slamboree 1993 - A Legends Reunion 05-23-93, The Omni, Atlanta, Georgia - Larry Zbyszko did guest commentary with Schiavone, subbing for Ventura; this show featured the debut of the new 4 Horsemen during a Flair for the Gold segment in which Paul Roma was named the newest member 2. Sid Vicious (w/ Col. Parker) defeated Van Hammer - Sid's surprise return after being gone 2 years 4. Brad Armstrong (sub. for Bob Armstrong) & Thunderbolt Patterson defeated Ivan Koloff & Baron Von Raschke in a "Legends Match". 5. Dory Funk ,Jr. fought Nick Bockwinkel to a 15-minute draw in a "Legends Match". 6. Rick Rude & WCW TV Champion Paul Orndorff defeated Kensuki Sasaki & Dustin Rhodes when Rude pinned Sasaki with the Rude Awakening after Orndorff pushed Sasaki off the top; Rude wore the US title to the ring after the controversail match in which he "won" it from Rhodes 7. Sting pinned The Prisoner (Nailz) with a crossbody off the top in a "bounty match" 8. Unified (WCW/NWA) World Tag Team Champions Steve Austin & Brian Pillman defeated Dos Hombres in a cage match when Austin pinned Zenk with the stun gun - The masked Dos Hombres were Ricky Steamboat and Tom Zenk; Zenk portrayed Shane Douglas in the match, as Douglas had just left the company; since he wore the mask for the duration of the bout, he was able to pull it off; Steamboat took off his mask late in the bout 9. NWA World Champion Barry Windham pinned Arn Anderson after hitting him with the title belt 10. Davey Boy Smith defeated WCW World Champion Big Van Vader (w/ Harley Race) via disqualification when the champion hit Smith with a chair on the outside of the ring; after the bout, a number of wrestlers - 2 Cold Scorpio, Bagwell, and others - attempted to make the save but were beaten down by Vader; eventually Sting came out for the save

Guys who spent most of their careers putting over younger talent, even into the 1980s. Scicluna held the tag straps in the 60s and contended for Bruno's belt. Rodz was the Steve Lombardi of the 70s, and I mean that in the highest compliment. Piper fought him the first time Roddy was brought up to work MSG.

    The Old School questions thread

    1. Kwang cost him a KOTR qualifier against the 1-2-3 Kid by misting him in the face. 2. Bart was all business, Billy was more interested in impressing Sunny. They had a match on Raw in December 96 in which Billy suffered a "stinger". Even paid off a few chicks to pretend to be their respective wives. Billy was carted off on a stretcher and wouldn't return until February or so but the angle never went anywhere. 3. Bret beat Owen on Raw 6 days before WrestleMania XI in a no holds barred match. It's not the same one on CHV.

If Johnny Rodz, Baron Mikel Scicluna, and Arnold Skaaland, who spent much of their career putting over other talent, are in there - Tito and Muraco are can't-miss pics. The thing is, if you're only familiar with those two during the Hogan era, you're missing out on a lot - Muraco especially.

Who was he talking about here, I was thinking Terry Gordy but maybe it was someone else? IIRC, it was Gordy.

"Sometimes Vince Does Things to be nice"

Thank god he did get the library. With the production value the WWE has, no one else could have come close to properly using and packaging the footage as Vince has done thus far (Flair's DVD, Bloodbath, etc). Had Vince not picked it up, we very well may never have seen this stuff.

Hard Knocks: The Chris Benoit Story DVD

No, Benoit didn't do any WWF work before he arrived in WCW for the first time. I'm pretty sure of that. He did compete for the WWF Junior Heavyweight Title in the very early 1990s. The belt was defended in Japan, Mexico, and the like and had no real association with Vince other than the name.

"Sometimes Vince Does Things to be nice"

Over the past few months my perspective of Vince has changed noticably. I watched the Hall of Fame DVD yesterday and was blown away by the pure class shown by all. Vince didn't have to pay tribute to anyone ... he could just as easily credit himself and himself alone for all the WWE has done. I was amazed by several of the inductees recognizing Linda, Shane, and Stephanie in the front row and praising them to high heaven, stating that their drive, vision, and respect for the business is what keeps the WWE - and pro wrestling in general - alive. To close the show, Vince came out and had the family members of the inductees stand and be recognized for the sacrifices they made when their father, husband, etc was out on the road every day of the year. When I went to the Mid Atlantic legends convention in Charlotte a few months back, there was a definate vibe of McMahon hate in the air. ... But I don't really understand why. True, Vince raided talent and his WWF did eventually end the territories. But do we blame Vince for merely trying to get his regional company off the ground and become a successful national and world-wide organization - or do we blame the dozens of other promoters who couldn't get their shit together to provide a profitable alternative and compete against New York? I think Vince gets blamed a lot simply because he's on top and is so visible.

    15 years ago this weekend

No, Hogan / Bossman was ... but the main event always came early or at least half-way through the show with the last match being *usally* a glorified squash. I've heard the last segment of SNME be compared to the last half hour of Saturday Night Live and I think it holds true.
