This Day in WWE History Thread

A house show on the same night as a TV taping? What would be the purpose of that? If the same talent was on both shows, I would have my doubts as to the accuracy of the info. But when the house show is a rinky dink high school spot show where the only names previously announced were nowhere near the top of the card, I'm pretty sure it's correct.

actually both of these were released and the Big Event match with Hogan and Orndorff was not a cage match that was from SNME which was released on the Hulkamania 2 video. However, soem of the Big Event matches were clipepd and some matches were simply missing from the WrestleFest tape but the Rougeaus/Bees match was shown And neither show was a PPV.

    Unexpected Title Wins

I don't know why so many think that. It was a TV taping for WWF Superstars. In the modern era, the only WWF/E world title change at a house show was Diesel / Backlund. Off the top of my head, unexpected title changes: Booker winning the strap Bret over Flair Honky over Steamboat Simmons was being groomed to be world champion. He's even in the audience for Sting / Vader at GAB 92. I'd say Slaughter was somewhat of a surprise.

SuperTape 3 (1/24/91) #087 - The Legion of Doom defeated Demolition Smash & Crush (w/ Mr. Fuji) at 10:01 when Road Warrior Hawk pinned Smash following the clothesline off the top rope as Smash attempted a piledriver on Road Warrior Animal (winter 90; Wrestling Challenge taping)

And we all know how knowledgable Scott Keith is. WWF @ Ottawa, Ontario - Civic Center - October 22, 1990 The Legion of Doom defeated Demolition Ax & Smash WWF @ Worcester, MA - Centrum - November 1, 1990 The Legion of Doom defeated Demolition Ax & Smash after Crush was sent backstage for interfering earlier in the bout Ax's last match - at least on TV - was the Survivor Series. He came back to work a few shows during the post WrestleMania VII European tour (teaming with Smash to lose to the Bushwhackers, among other things) but none of that was taped. The only reason I can think why the WWF brought him back for these spot shows was that Crush was hurt. Demolition was all but an afterthought at that point anyway.

The ONE and ONLY Demolition Thread

Just by browsing my website over the course of 30 seconds, I came across at least 2 instances in which Ax & Smash faced LOD in tag matches. There were plenty of LOD / Demolition steel cage matches in the fall of 1990 in which the specific participants were not named. Because the cage matches took place prior to the Survivor Series, no one can say with any certainty as to which of the 3 Demos were involved.

Hard Knocks: The Chris Benoit Story DVD

The freaking Pillman Show match is on there! That alone should silence critics of the line up.

    Why or why not?

If I had the gas money today to drive out to Roanoke (the closest Best Buy) and use my hard-earned store credit, I wouldn't be posting right now - I'd be watching the DVD. Superstar beating Bruno for the title Valentine vs. Santana Slaughter vs. Patterson in the alley fight Yes, please.

Richard, Thanks for the note. Before I actually label it a TV taping, I'm hoping I can get ahold of an old Observer and get the other matches that were taped that night. - Graham

LOD fought Demolition in straight up 2-on-2 tag matches a few dozen times in 90 / 91. Yes, but it was only the Ax & Smash combo once, right? I doubt it. I wouldn't put much faith in a random newsboard's FAQ.
