    The Old School questions thread

February 5, 1996 (with a "rematch" on the 2/10 WCW Saturday Night that had been taped a few weeks prior). Was that when Woman, who started appearing with Savage beginning with January's Clash of the Champions, joined Flair / Anderson / Benoit? I remember it being a few weeks before SuperBrawl. If the date of that match is correct, it would have been a world title defense for Savage.

    WWF Print Ads

For those of you who frequent my website, just wanted to let you know that I've re-posted the 150 or so print ads I have into fuller size images (and added a few more). They start in 1964 and continue to November 2003. Yes, now you can actually read where the show was held. If you come across any others, feel free to drop me an e-mail. Here's the direct link: http://www.angelfire.com/wrestling/cawthon777/ad.html

Actually, there was talk at the time of Savage being a transitional champion for Warrior - since the WWF was so lukewarm to face vs. face matches (talk from fans, mags, etc). Involving Tyson - or Douglas for that matter - bumped up the anticipation for the free TV Hogan vs. Savage title bout (a match that had happened nearly every day of the previous year). Also, involving a boxer as the guest referee means he would have to knock someone out ... couldn't do that with Hogan vs. Warrior.

Savage, not Warrior. WWF @ Detroit, MI - Joe Louis Arena - February 23, 1990 The Main Event III - shown live on NBC: WWF World Champion Hulk Hogan pinned Randy Savage at 11:14 when guest outside referee Buster Douglas (sub. for Mike Tyson) made the fast count following the legdrop; during the match, Douglas sent Sensational Sherri, who was in the challenger's corner, backstage; after the match, Douglas knocked Savage out with a punch

HHH going over at Wrestlemania again

Who bloody cares about what some second-rate newsboard had to say? All this does it piss off the optimists and cause the pesimists to say "I told you so." Wait until March 15th before you start bitching.

    Ventura in Hall of Fame?

Yep. Long running IC champ ... long running tag champ ... in an era when titles rarely switched. If you include his stint in 78-81 or so, then yeah - he's a good choice. He's not Hulk Hogan (another name held off the HoF due to politics), but Valentine put in nearly 15 years with the WWF and - like Jimmy Snuka before him (a fellow inductee) - he stuck around to put over the new talent.

And that's why Bruno Sammartino and Bret Hart are already in...right?

    Undertaker 90-97

Warrior pinned Taker a number of times. I wasn't aware the Hogan / Taker match from Hulkamania 6 was from a TV taping - I never saw the tape and assumed it was from one of the PPVs. I know they had a match at a taping in late July 91 so that's probably it. Anyone recall the finish? Taker pinned Bret at MSG right after the 92 Rumble. Never saw it but I've been told it was a glorified squash. I think Savage beat him once in 91 during the retirement angle (Savage was a sub for Warrior, I believe). Yoko pinned him several times prior to the 94 Rumble.

    Ricky Steamboat

I don't think Vince signed him just to keep him out of WCW. Remember - between 89 and 91 he was semi-retired. So where's the threat of him going to WCW? And if Vince didn't want him in WCW, why keep him on just for 6 months and THEN let him go? According to Steamboat, Vince holds something against him for asking for time off in 87 (the reason he dropped the IC belt). When he came back, he was more or less jobbed out and didn't even get to face Savage in the world title tourney at WrestleMania IV.

The Capital Centre was in Landover, MD ("Capital" since it was so close to DC; later renamed the USAir Arena and torn down a few years back). I'm from the area so everytime I go home, I'll find a few more via old issues of the Washington Post.

Don't know if I should laugh or cry. Gotta love reading the wrestling articles written by those naive to wrestling.

I'm fairly certain it's out there. I haven't really had a reason to buy it so I can't say for sure.
  18. cawthon777

So what WWF and WCW PPVs weren't released to the

They were released in the United States, just in very limited supply. If you ever come across an original on eBay, it will usually run $30-50. The UK got just about everything, WWF-wise, including the rare IYH shows.

    Who will get the heat?

I see Benoit getting major face heat. MSG respects those with actual talent (the Hogan years aside).

So what WWF and WCW PPVs weren't released to the

NWA / WCW I've seen commercial masters on eBay for BATB 00, New Blood Rising, Fall Brawl 00, and Havoc 00. So they were released, just in limited supply. Bunkhouse Stampede 88 ... the main event is on Crockett Cup 88 but only the main event. Spring Stampede 98 WWF In Your House 1 is pretty easy to find if you look on eBay. I've had it for years. The hard ones are IYH 2 (HBK vs. Jarrett), Mindgames, IYH 4 (Diesel vs. Bulldog), 5 (Bret vs. Bulldog), Good Friends/Better Enemies, Cold Day in Hell, and DX. They, like the WCW 00 shows, were released but in a very limited supply here in the US (maybe DX wasn't but the rest were).

Yep, he worked several of the WWF's May 94 Japan tour dates. What I'm not sure about is the Japanese wrestler featured in the ad from 1980 that also includes Backlund, Inoki, and Hansen. I'm a bit Japanese illiterate so if it's obvious and I'm just not getting it, forgive me.

    WWF Print Ads

You know what ... I think I might be interested. So far I've only posted live event ads but I have received a number of Saturday Night's Main Event and The Main Event ads (I think from TV Guide). I'll probably add them all soon enough.

    Uncensored 99 main event

Look who the referee was. It was the beginning of Lil Naitch. Though it was poorly executed, Charles Robinson was bending the rules to aid Flair. Flair walked out a heel, and with the belt, while Hogan walked out the cheated champion.

    WWF 97-98

Not quite. Kama was lower mid card at best and if he couldn't beat Taker clean in 95, he never was going to. WWF @ Lake Placid, NY - June 16, 1997 Raw is War: WWF IC Champion Owen Hart & WWF European Champion the British Bulldog defeated the New Blackjacks Chris Candido defeated Brian Christopher via disqualification Steve Austin defeated Brian Pillman via disqualification when Owen Hart, Jim Neidhart, and Davey Boy Smith - who were all handcuffed to seperate ring posts - escaped and attacked Austin; after the bout, Mankind, Goldust, and Ken Shamrock made the save; Austin and Shamrock began brawling until the Legion of Doom seperated the two men and Goldust suggested all five men team up to face the Hart Foundation at Canadian Stampede (Best of Raw Vol. 6) The Headbangers defeated Jerry Lawler & Rob Van Dam Farooq & Kama (w/ D-Lo Brown) defeated WWF World Champion the Undertaker (w/ Paul Bearer) & Ahmed Johnson when Kama pinned the Undertaker after Ahmed turned on his partner and hit the Pearl River Plunge before joining the Nation
