On TV? Not that I'm aware of. He did beat Martel in the finals of the 1989 KOTR tourney but being as no one outside the arena saw the match it doesn't amount to much.

To clear up the question from earlier, Hogan didn't step aside to retire. He took a leave of absence to take some heat off Vince during the steroid situation which flared up big in late 91 / early 92. Take a look at the CHV version of WrestleMania VIII - during a luncheon, Hogan tells Okerlund that he's going to just take some time off and then come back to challenge the champion. And that's exactly what happened, though he was probably brought back earlier than anticipated due to the fall in ratings and attendance. As far as the proposed matches for WrestleMania, all three would have been money makers - especially Hogan / Flair. That was a match that was nearly 10 years in the making and they had taken it around the horn for 6 months prior to Mania, in both singles and tag matches. You can argue the quality of the matches all day long - but they drew massive heat and interest from around the world. It was the ultimate mark vs. smark series with Flair having more than handful of fans in attenance. I doubt Sid or Taker had problems losing. Taker lost to Warrior every day of the week during the first half of 1991 and lost to Sid every day of the week during the second half (at least until Sid got hurt; once he returned in early 92, the losing streak for Taker continued).

Ah yes...night of 1,000 McMahon's. Scary indeed. Yeah, it doesn't exactly scream "Buy Armageddon."

The only one I really have an issue with is WrestleMania VI. That feud had been going a full year at that point and deserved a decisive finish. The first tag match needed to be a technicallity because the feud had another 6 months to go and the Disasters had just turned faces two months earlier. It would have been a bad decision to have a pinfall in that match. In 93, there was no way either Dibiase or IRS was scoring a pinfall on Hogan or Beefcake ... and the Mega Maniacs were obviously not winning the tag belts. I can understand that one. WrestleMania V ... he could have gone over Beefcake but I understand why he didn't. Beefcake was on the verge of becomming Hogan's little buddy.

Was this the match you were referring to? WWF @ Winston-Salem, NC - March 9, 1988 WWF Superstars taping: 4/2/88: Andre the Giant fought Brian Costello to a no contest when he tossed his opponent out of the ring before the bout began; after the bout, Jim Duggan came ringside to challenge Andre; Andre began choking Duggan but Duggan fought back by knocking Andre out with his 2x4; moments later, when Andre came to, he attacked both officials and a cameraman in a fit of rage -
I'm just curious how many times, if ever, Flair got a win over Hogan. Just about how long exactly did Fake Razor and Diesel wrestle before they dropped the gimmick entirely? I assume that Glen went back to a farm league until the Kane gimmick came up, because he was still under contract the whole time, right? Flair and Hogan traded technicality wins until Flair won the Rumble. Hogan won most but Flair was not without count-out victories of his own, even a few Dusty finishes where Flair got the pin with a foreign object but the decision was later overturned. I have fake Diesel showing up as late as April 97, though I believe he had been off TV for quite some time before then.
-
I figured someone would ask that. Yeah, the Doink thing was the last he was seen on TV but I think he was still under contract. I believe at some point in the year he feuded with Kevin Sullivan in another promotion ... but I still think he was under WWF contract. So, mere days before Bossman leaves for WCW (appearing on WCW Saturday Night and pinning Rick Rude clean in a non-title match after Davey Boy was fired), Vince brought him back on the road to be the guest referee for a series of Bret / Jarrett matches. This particular show I have a fan cam of.
-
Funny thing is, the Loser Leaves the WWF match was taped 6 days before the Rumble.
