Will Lesnar/Goldberg even happen at Wrestlemania?
cawthon777 replied to JN News's topic in The WWE Folder
Who's dream is that? They should be hit about the nose with a rolled up newspaper. -
I don't think they had the credibility to get over when the other teams consisted of Money Inc, the Natural Disasters, the Steiners, the Nasty Boys, and the Headshrinkers. The only team they could really trade wins with were the Beverlys. I remember reading an interview with Owen in WWF Magazine (pre-heel turn) where he said he and Koko didn't even get along when they were a team (summer 93, I believe ... after Koko was fired).

Don't recall the story as to how it happened so one of you guys might be right with what you said. I do remember hearing that the WWF wanted him to keep it out since it added to his image so I'm inclined to believe it was during his first few months in the company.
-
It was probably the same. I read a report of the taping just earlier today and the finish had to be reshot ... so they brought both men back out after the Sultan claimed to have said Mankind couldn't put the move on him again "in a thousand years" (Fink said this, not the Sultan).

It was Rick. They fought to a double count-out at the MSG show a week before the PPV, which also featured Owen winning a rare house show Rumble match.

I think he tried out but wasn't hired. Probably after his AWA run but I'm not sure on that.

Superstar/Race, Kane ruins Raw, Series match on SD
cawthon777 replied to cawthon777's topic in The WWE Folder
I guess you could say that. This was just a few weeks before the Survivor Series, which had the world title tournament, and Kane was in the midst of a heated rivalry with a recently turned heel Undertaker (Taker brought back Paul Bearer as his manager at October's Judgment Day when he and Kane were fighting for the vacant belt). So I guess Kane was acting out since his daddy went and joined Taker instead. The weekly routine of either the Undertaker or Austin or Kane interfering in matches and beating up both participants went back to 97 but it intensified during Taker's time as #1 contender in the spring / summer of 98 and just got worse from there. -

Injury. First, he was supposed to fight Tatonto at the Rumble but was hurt at MSG a week prior ... then he was supposed to fight Quake at Mania but suffered a second injury. A shame too. This was a guy that could have headlined WrestleMania X.
-
Well that and they had so many of the die-hards in the crowd week after week - it really added something to the show. I remember one of the many popular chants from that first year of Raw was "Shawn is gay". Ah, the good ole days...
-
I was shoked he lost. They had played up the "undefeated streak vs. undefeated streak" with Tatanka before - against both Luger and Mr. Hughes - and neither had a decisive finish so I figured this would be the same. I wasn't a big Tatanka fan but him being pinned blew me away.

It was the Raw blowoff in July. The cage match was never televised. I didn't see what the big deal was, myself. It was obvious Marty had no chance of winning. Here's how the match played out. Marty got the win but Shawn's foot was on the ropes ... Diesel and Heenan show the referee what happened on the video moniter ... match continues ... Marty misses a dive to the floor, knocks himself out, Diesel rolls him back in, Shawn gets the easy pin. It may have been a better match than simply what I just described, but it's been 10 years since I've seen it.

Actually Borga was injured before the Rumble, causing Bigelow to replace him in the match with Tatanka, as well as his abrupt exit from the fed. That aside, those were the plans.

Where exactly was this contest held?

And they set up plenty more last night. Wrestling-wise, SD may not have had much but I think as far as laying the foundation for Survivor Series it did a great job. We're 3 weeks away from the show and they card for the PPV is almost complete. Personally, I'm curious to see where this John Cena situation leads and as to if he does join Brock's team ... or ... if he replaces an injured Farooq on Angle's team, thus turning face. ...Stranger things have happened.

As much as I love Benoit, I see Eddie with the belt at WrestleMania moreso than I see Chris. HOWEVER ... with Eddie as champion ... that would open the door to one hell of a series of matches between the two.

This is similar to a question I asked in yesterday's This Day in History thread regarding Christian's Euro title win 2 years ago on SD. Maybe they just didn't have enough time to air it.

Does anyone know why Christian's title win wasn't televised?
