That was my fault, it's been fixed. -
Very cool stuff. I encourage sneaking camcorders into house shows.

The Flair/Savage "Lifeguard Match" at BATB '95
cawthon777 replied to JN News's topic in General Wrestling
Savage. I think after Double A's interference backfired ... but it's been years since I've seen the show ... tried to wipe it from my memory. -
How many people have physically assaulted Vince?
cawthon777 replied to Slayer's topic in General Wrestling
Had Nailz attacked Vince following Summer Slam 92, I very highly doubt he would have been around long enough for the Survivor Series - OR be involved with a program with the Undertaker for that matter. The situation there stemmed from Nailz having an ego and wanting a raise in the winter of 92. -
I'd recommend getting the Bulldogs' CHV for the Bret / Dynamite contest from the Cap Centre (Neidhart / Davey Boy is also on there if you really want it). The Harts' CHV does include a great match from Boston (11/1/86) and I'm a big fan of the 2nd MSG match (9/23/85) which is featured on Best of the WWF Vol. 7. I've never seen the first match from MSG, which ended in a draw.

Backlund/Monsoon, 1st UK card, Andre/Bockwinkel
cawthon777 replied to cawthon777's topic in The WWE Folder
I bet the Harts / Rougeaus had potential to save the card. I don't know if it was politics per say. Had Gagne been AWA World Champion during that time, I'm sure we would have seen a Backlund / Gagne match - as we saw Bobby face off against the likes of Flair, Race, and Bockwinkel when they were title holders. -
*sniff sniff* I smell an Eddie world title match at WrestleMania. After watching SD and then reading this, I can see it happening.

Gene Okerlund was on hand at Radford University (Radford, VA) earlier today to celebrate the re-opening of one of the dining halls (which includes a Mean Gene's Burgers). Being that in all my years of being a wrestling fan I've yet to meet anyone from the industry, I felt obligated to at least show up and see what was going on. I was surprised at the effort put into his being there. There were tons of balloons all throughout the inside and outside of the dining hall, a giant Mean Gene balloon on the roof (similar to the Austin and Undertaker ones of old), and one of the local rock stations had people in attendance as well. Mean Gene T-shirts, bumper stickers, and dolls (although I never saw the later) were available for purchase. The turnout was much higher than I expected, however, as soon as Gene took the mic and the topic turned to wrestling I could see that most of the females in attendance quickly made their exit. To get the crowd started, he asked people to name various wrestlers and he would in turn give the "inside scoop" on their careers. And here I thought my university was void of wrestling fans? Names like Brian Pillman, the Brooklyn Brawler, and Jimmy Snuka immediately were given and Okerlund gave a quick synopsis of their past. Following that, I quickly got in line for autographs and, since I came prepared, had my WWE article from the previous week's school paper ready for him to sign (I posted a link several days ago - it was from the Angle / Brock 45-minute match in Roanoke). When it was my turn, I shook his hand and asked if he was doing requests (since all he had signed at that point were 8x10s). He took immediate and sincere interest in the article - asked what paper it was, where the card was held, and the arena. And then, to my surprise, he asked if he could keep it. After I proverbially crapped my pants, I told him by all means and that since my e-mail was listed in the article I would love to hear his feedback. He went on to say that he would be in his office tomorrow and would pass this along to some of the higher ups (Vince and Angle were mentioned). Now I clearly understand that last comment may or may not occur and I'm aware of his credibility when it comes to doing various radio interviews, but the simple fact he showed interest in my article was enough for that to be the highlight of my week. All he had to do was sign it and hand it back, yet he asked for a copy for himself. Writing for the WWE would be a dream come true and, whether anything comes of this or not, I definately got a lot more out of that experience than simply an autographed 8x10. A burger eating contest also took place but I left prior to then.
-
Well I considered bringing a camera but I didn't want to be the only person that thought to bring one (wasn't sure of the turnout). As it turns out, I was one of the few that didn't have one. Some people even brought camcorders. I did get a signed 8x10 of him shilling his burgers though lol

Now that's something to brag about lol

I can't speak for everyone's experiences but to compare the house shows I've seen to the TV shows I've seen is a no contest - especially in respect to the final segment. House show = Angle vs. Brock TV = Triple H admits to the world that it was he that jumped HBK in the parking lot ... like we didn't know The TV shows are just a 2-hour infomercial for the upcoming PPV.

Much appreciated -
I remember them showing stills from Edge's win at SkyDome at the beginning of Fully Loaded 99. There was actual footage shown from the Godwinns' win at MSG in 96 but I can't recall any others right now.

In the conversation, Gorilla said Stu was from Saskatoon. Alfred thought he was from Calgary. It was included on 1993's Smack'em Whack'em CHV.

It was a dark match. House show matches are easy to recognize - they have horrible lighting for one, they lack a video screen at the entrance way for two. WWF @ Saskatoon, Saskatchewan - Saskatchewan Center - October 12, 1992 WWF Superstars taping: The Big Bossman defeated Nailz Randy Savage & the Ultimate Warrior defeated WWF Tag Team Champions Ted Dibiase & IRS via count-out (Dibiase & IRS had yet to win the titles but were announced as champs) Bret Hart defeated WWF World Champion Ric Flair (w/ Mr. Perfect) to win the title via submission with the Sharpshooter following a superplex The Bezerker defeated Brian Helton Tatanka defeated Dusty Wolfe Shawn Michaels defeated Jim Brunzell Jim Powers defeated Barry Horowitz Yokozuna defeated Don Hutchinson Kamala defeated Brian Jewel Prime Time Wrestling - 10/26/92: El Matador fought Terry Taylor to a 10-minute draw Crush defeated Papa Shango via disqualification at 6:44 after Shango used his voodoo stick to spray sparks into Crush's face WWF Superstars: 10/31/92: Shawn Michaels (w/ Sensational Sherri) fought Steve May to a no contest when, as Michaels was checking himself out in his full length mirror prior to the match, Marty Jannetty came out of the crowd and had a face to face confrontation with a shocked and fearful Michaels; during the incident, Jannetty grabbed Michaels' mirror and attempted to smash it over his head but Michaels pulled Sensational Sherri in front of him, knocking her out; afterwards, Michaels ran backstage as a frustrated Jannetty checked on Sherri (Jannetty's return to TV after being gone 9 months) Yokozuna (w/ Mr. Fuji) pinned Bill Jordan with the Bonzai Drop at 1:52 (Yoko's TV debut) Tatanka defeated Dale Wolfe Prime Time Wrestling - 11/2/92: Rick Martel defeated Jim Brunzell via submission with the Boston Crab WWF Superstars - 11/7/92: Max Moon defeated Louie Spicolli The Headshrinkers defeated Joey Maggs & Brian Costello Virgil defeated Jim Peterson Damien Demento defeated Steve May WWF Tag Team Champions Ted Dibiase & IRS defeated Owen Hart & Koko B. That is one of the worst wrestling cards I have ever seen in my life. Is it as bad as this? And this was held in the high school which must not hold more than ~1600. Can you help me out with the state / high school? I wasn't able to find that info. -
Yeah, reports will vary but I'm going to go with the original since the guy timed every match and thus obviously paid attention to what was going on.
-
That was a TV taping, not a house show. The day before the Ironman, Angle beat Brock in 2 minutes. It's not newsworthy.

They very well may be on there. The info that's been released is vague and they do have a lot of time to fill up. -
