Garvin stuck around for syndie jobber matches well after WrestleMania. He fought IC Champion Mr. Perfect on TV shortly before Summer Slam.
-
When did this take place?
-
Well there are 20 matches featured and only 11 are shown in full. Why Yankem vs. Bret? Sorry, I don't see the appeal. Everything else works fine, especially since there are even a few (Backlund / Hansen) that I've never seen.

Pedro was a name but not much of one at that point, basically just a JTTS. And yes, that was the Ultimate Dingo (as I like to refer to him).

Who the hell cares what Scott Keith thinks anyway? Fall Brawl 93 was the first WCW PPV I ordered. I believe I still have the home video version (the 1st WCW PPV to be released with every match included). The Bad: The Nastys win the tag titles (WCW went from the Hollywood Blondes to the Nasty Boys in a month ... wow, that's sad) ... the Shockmaster dominates WarGames and makes Booker T submit to a bearhug The Good: Cactus gets one step closer to Big Van Vader ... a very historic PPV as every title on the line changed hands ... I thought Rude / Flair was pretty entertaining - maybe not the best from either man but I liked it and it was my first look at how long an NWA Title match can go Fall Brawl 94 was OK. Steamboat's retirement, Austin gets whooped by Jim Duggan, Johnny B. Badd finally won a title after 3 years. I remember being pissed that Cactus lost and that Schiavone was portraying him as a heel (like I'm going to cheer Kevin Sullivan???). The triangle match was pretty cool - with Vader beating Bossman and then (with the help of the mysterious masked man later revealed to be Beefcake) beats Sting in a sudden death round. Fall Brawl 95 was crap. Yeah, so it included 2 good matches. Aside from those 2 good matches, it was horrible. And why Johnny B. Badd went over Pillman is beyond me. First Pillman jobs to Alex Wright at GAB (which was held in his backyard) and then to Johnny B. Badd? Blasphemy! Flair vs. Arn was cool in that Arn won. Oh yeah, and DDP slowly began his rise to the top by beating the Ultimate Warrior wannabe for the TV title. Fall Brawl 96 was pretty solid. The only thing I didn't like was the fact the teams weren't at ringside for the duration of WarGames, as they had been in years past. I guess that was so they could pull of the Fake Sting gimmick but I still didn't like it. And the stupid referee stopped the match on Luger's behalf? That was also stupid, IMO. Fall Brawl 97 I still have yet to see in full because I kept hoping it would be released on home video. The heat around the main event was def there - despite the fact the participants for WarGames weren't announced any more than 2 weeks before the PPV. The nWo mockery of the Horsemen and Arn's retirement speech was more than enough to up the buyrate. Fall Brawl 98 was a cop-out. DDP winning WarGames was fine with me, unexpected maybe but fine (I would have picked Nash to win since he and Goldberg were already having issues). What I had a problem with was the fact the teams were so weak. Stevie Ray??? Yeah, like he's going to win. And the finish comes from a pinfall? LAME. WarGames 98 was nothing more than a simple cage match. Another gripe I had with the show was Hennig vs. Malenko. After all the buildup to a Horsemen reunion and after all Malenko had done to redeem the name of the Horsemen in the previous months, he gets a lame DQ win? I remember hating that decision at the time and thinking WCW doesn't have a clue (of course I thought the same of the WWF).

I remember there was a good amount of talk that Flair might show up at the April 98 In Your House since it was held in Greensboro.
-
Might be wrong here but I think the Outsiders had their own belts made after X-Pac & Hall (X-Pac subbed for Nash) lost to the Steiners in October.

Last night at the Roanoke Civic Center, in an obvious tune-up for the upcoming Ironman match, Kurt Angle defended the title against Brock Lesnar. While I expected a cookie-cutter main event where the heel hits his move but knocks out the ref by accident only to fall victim to the face's finisher to lose, I was happily surprised at the effort and athleticism displayed by both men as they put on a 40-minute+ contest. In front of MAYBE 2-3,000 fans, Angle and Lesnar went full force and held nothing back as they traded amateur holds, suplexes, as well as their signature spots. The champion attempted the top rope moonsault (which missed) and followed soon thereafter by hitting a baseball slide into steel ring steps placed on the ring by Lesnar, knocking the challenger several feet backwards into the aisle. Lesnar dominated much of the contest, overpowering Angle with his size and strength. Angle countered by applying the ankle lock on several occassions, all of which were not enough to put the challenger away. Eventually it was a modified version of the hold (used on Benoit at the Rumble) that got the win for Angle as he forced a submission from Lesnar. Angle poses with the title and leaves while Lesnar sells the injury on the mat. Brock eventually got to his feet and demanded that Kurt return to the ring since he was under the impression it was an Ironman contest. The champion failed to return and Brock slowly made his way backstage as the fans chanted "You tapped out!" Without a doubt, this was the best match I have ever seen live and was a throwback to the classic NWA title defenses that took place at the Civic Center years ago. If the coming week's Smackdown can provide the same quality match, then we should be in for a treat. Other results: - - WWE Cruiserweight Champion Rey Mysterio Jr. pinned Tajiri with the 619 and springboard splash into the ring. After the bout, Tajiri took the champion out with the kick to the head. - - Albert & Sean O’Haire defeated Spanky & Paul London when O’Haire pinned London with the modified DVD after Spanky lept from the ring onto Albert on the arena floor. The heels made London look quite good and the younger team came off looking like an updated version of the Young Stallions or Rockers as they used their speed and arial abilities to keep their larger opponents off balance. - - Matt Hardy (w/ Shannon Moore) pinned Orlando Jordan with the Twist of Fate after Moore tripped Jordan. During his intro, Hardy received the majority of applause – which he quickly turned into jeers by making fun of Virginia and Roanoke in particular. - Nunzio pinned Sho Funaki with a reversal - - Billy Kidman & Jamie Knoble (w/ Nidia) defeated Doug & Danny Basham (w/ Shaniqua) when Kidman scored the pin with the Shooting Star Press after Knoble hit a powerbomb on one of the Bashams from the middle turnbuckle. - - WWE US Champion Eddie Guerrero defeated Chris Benoit and John Cena in a triple threat match by pinning Cena. Moments prior to the finish, Rhyno ran in the ring and hit the Gore on Benoit – sending him to the floor. Guerrero soon knocked Rhyno to the floor and, as the referee was busy ordering Rhyno backstage, the champion knocked Cena in the head with the title belt – brought in the ring by the challenger – to get the eventual win. All three men received a large amount of heat during their intros and Cena cut a classic freestyle on Roanoke, Virginia Tech, and the fans in attendance prior to the match. - - WWE Smackdown! Tag Team Champions Charlie Haas & Shelton Benjamin defeated the Acolytes when Bradshaw was pinned after a belt shot. Prior to the match, Bradshaw alluded to the fact that Benjamin was really Shaniqua. - - Torrie Wilson defeated Nidia, Sable, and Dawn Marie in a bikini contest where Sho Funaki was the special MC. After the contest, Dawn Marie came to Torrie’s aid against Sable. I'll have photographs from the show posted on my site later today.

As far as spots, here's what I can remember... - Angle moonsault - baseball slide into steel steps - F5 that accidentally knocks out the referee - the modified ankle lock (no clue of the name ... the one that Benoit tapped to) Angle was big on the submission offense - not only the ankle lock but also a version of the Fujiwara armbar. When the champion was in control, Brock was usually down on the mat and unable to do much about it. -

Most of the crowd was into it the entire time. There were a few fans who couldn't stand the fact Angle and Lesnar use psychology and bust out the occasional headlock / armbar but aside from that the two had the audience in the palm of their hands. As they had done throughout the previous matches, the ring announcer reminded the fans how much time was left during the contest. I figured he was just throwing out numbers but after checking my watch I realized it was legit. I went with a good friend of mine who had never seen a live show and he was very much impressed with the main event. We were thinking there for a while that Angle and Lesnar were going to do the full 60-minutes and we'd end up with a time-limit draw (which probably hasn't been done at a WWF/E house show since Backlund / Muraco). Lesnar had so many close calls that, at least for a moment, I could have sworn we were going to have a title change in Roanoke with Angle regaining the title on Smackdown. I don't know about stars but I would rank it higher than WrestleMania. I have yet to see their Summer Slam bout but I would also be inclined to give last night's bout the nod simply because Vince wasn't involved. Btw, I've posted the pics if you guys want to take a look. Most came out a little on the dark side due to the arena lighting and the fact I was trying to use a flash with a zoom. -

Brock actually took some pretty bad shots - the steel steps into the face for one. Angle set the pace but both men had their working shoes on. -

The weather was crap all day. I waited around a few hours prior to the show to see if I could meet anyone but only caught glimpses of Angle, Albert, and Shaniqua as they showed up. After the show, I saw Ron Simmons and Dawn Marie leaving but that was about it. Had it not been raining, I'm sure I would have had better luck. A friend of mine that I went to the show with did get a few video clips on his camera - the opening of the triple threat and some of the bikini contest. Unfortunately, his batteries died before the ME. -
The only thing that ruined the match for me (aside from the fact the Horsemen lost) was the outside interference. It's pretty hard to beat the Horsemen vs. Raven / Saturn match from Spring Stampede. I would easily rank that as one of the best matches of the year.
-
I guess the only other 'legit' Flair win over Hogan was at Uncensored 99, although Flair did pick up many illegal pinfall wins over Hogan in late 91 when Hogan was champ. All of those matches had the decision reversed, with Hogan winning via DQ and keeping his belt since Flair knocked him out with a pair of brass knux to get the win.
-
I remember it but don't have it on tape. I believe Pillman interfered, costing Flair the match once more.
-
If they want to turn Triple H face, it's going to take a hell of a lot more than Jericho staying heel to make that successful.
-
Let's say he does turn face. He won't be the same as he was in 2000. Jericho could easily fit in as an updated version of Piper - which in itself was an early version of Austin. The uber popular rebel face with heelish tendencies.
-
This will BY FAR not be the worst PPV ever. Have we already forgotten WCW in 1991 and 1995? WWF in 1995? I wasted a few hundred $ ordering those. Goldberg / Triple H (Goldberg winning), HBK / Orton (Orton winning), and Jericho / Christian (Piper vs. Adonis II) are matches I would pay to see. Whether or not they're all ***** is another matter but I'm sure they'll at least be enjoyable to some degree.

There's some information that may shed light to the fact that the man that Bruno beat for the title at MSG in 1963 was in fact not Buddy Rogers but someone made up to look like him.
