    The Old School questions thread

Strictly from memory, fake Piper looked a lot more like Zach Gowen than Jason Sensation (just making comparisons; am in no way saying it was Zach since he was probably 15 at the time).

    Ric Flair vs. Ultimate Warrior

Well the Warrior / Flair match was planned in early October 92 - so I doubt Vince was taking a look at Yoko, who had just made his debut a few weeks earlier, and going "Oooooh, WrestleMania main event heel." I believe there was also some talk to keep the belt on Flair and have him lose it to a returning Hogan at 9. WrestleMania IX happened the way it did because so many of the major draws (Hogan, Flair, Sid, Jake, Piper, Warrior, etc) had not been in the picture for so long and the WWF was forced to emphasize it's much more cartoonish talent. That's why we were fed Crush vs. Doink and Hogan/Beefcake vs. Money Inc instead of Bret vs. Backlund and Steiners vs. Money Inc.

Haku pinned Dynamite but I don't know how.

    Ric Flair vs. Ultimate Warrior

At the time, the WWF was going for a Warrior / Flair Royal Rumble match for the title - which I suppose would have been the final blowoff. Obviously those plans went out the window before Bret won the title - which occured about a month before Warrior left. I know Warrior and Flair had at least one match after the title loss with Warrior getting the win.

Me neither. He never worked a match so I'm not so sure if he was a wrestler at all - although he did take a bump every now and again.

That was "Jason Sensation", also known for his work as Owen Hart in the DX/Nation parody. IIRC, he showed up at the PPV to help Piper out. Are you sure about that? True, it's been years since I've seen the show - I just figured that it would be more well-known that it was Jason Sensation.

    The Old School questions thread

They were just one spot appearances. It was MSG - Vince Sr. used to bring in all the big names from all over the country to fill the place up - whether it be the Von Erichs from Texas, Piper from Oregon, Andre, Dusty from Florida, Jack Brisco, Race, Flair, you name it.

    Cruiserweight Question

NO. He never. that's right he never did. you may be thinking about the feud Syxx had with Dean Malenko, who WAS US champ at the time, where Syxx stole the belt, and they had a ladder match for it at the first Souled Out ppv, i believe. but this is merely specualtion. X-Pac did steal a belt from Malenko but it was the Cruiser title. Malenko won the U.S. title from Eddie Guerrero a month after he lost the Cruiser to X-Pac. The ladder match was with Eddie.

I know they aired a few Piper segments on All-American. Not sure about Raw.

    Cruiserweight Question

What about Benoit? He was never pushed as a cruiserweight contender in WCW but he did make it to the finals of the title tournament in 96.

    The Old School questions thread

    1. It was just Lawler badmouthing Piper every week for being washed up, etc. I think he would make fun of "Hell Comes to Frogtown". At the time, the WWF was airing pretaped Piper promo segments (they might have referred to them as Piper's Pit but it wasn't near the same thing). Piper would be on location shooting some movie and he would cut a promo on the happenings of the WWF in front of the camera in his trailer, etc. I think Lawler was reacting to thinking Piper was so full of himself. They continued to run the pretaped segments even after Summer Slam 94 - I remember Piper going off on Tatanka's heel turn. 2. I believe he was. I don't remember - did Big Bubba ever pull a Pepper back then and cook himself some rabbit?

    Cruiserweight Question

Not to nitpick but X-Pac never wore the U.S. belt.

    WWE Weekend Results

Okay, is it Orlando Jordon or Orlando Jones because every house show report says something different?

    Trivia's weekend report

I'm really getting into Matt. He reminds me of Chris Jericho circa 1998. Not sure if I would be quick to put another title on him this quickly. Might prefer a John Cena or ... although this is becoming more and more unlikely as the weeks go by ... a heel Chris Benoit. Hopefully once this Benoit / Rhyno feud is over I won't have to sit through any more jobs to O'Haire, Show, Stamboli, or a Basham...

    Mil Mascaras

Mascaras had a run with the WWWF in the late 70s where he had a few title matches with Superstar Billy Graham. I believe he briefly returned in 84-85.

How did you become a smark?

Montreal made me smarten up. I turned on Nitro the next night (was in Alaska so we got the live Nitro at 4pm) and all of a sudden the nWo is singing the Canadian National Anthem and Mean Gene is talking about how a former world champion punked out Vince after the Survivor Series. I went "...Wha?" and scratched my head. Then when Raw came on later that night, I caught more of the story. When I finally got on the Net a few weeks later, I read everything I could get my hands on regarding the Montreal Incident - from interviews with Bret to the Bulldog to Owen to Vince himself. Speaking of the LAW, which was mentioned earlier, I got huge into them the summer of 98. Used to have a collection of the archived interviews on my harddrive. The interview they did with Bret days after his retirement was fantastic.

Here's what I have from that time period. If you can add anything from that tape be it matches or finishes, feel free. I did happen to come across the Patterson / Albano match... Spike Lee gets an injunction

Wow ... Spike Lee is a moron if he actually thinks TNN got the idea from him. And if the judge doesn't rule in TNN's favor, he's a moron too. Why doesn't Spike Lee just put an injunction on Spike Dudley? Or, as stated earlier, Spike from Buffy? ...Egomaniac. This guy is tailor-made to be managed by Teddy Long.

    Best WWF Syndication Matches

Sure they did. Those shows were on for 10 years apiece - they had more than 5 decent matches.

    Best WWF Syndication Matches

Diesel vs. Razor title change ... HBK vs. Candido ... Rockers vs. LOD

    Television tapings

HBK didn't have the Heartbreak Hotel until 94. Back then he was working tags with Marty. Think maybe it was Beefcake's Barber Shop?

    Question about title lineages

The old WWF Jr. Heavyweight Title (same thing as Lt. Heavyweight in my book) was held by guys like the Dynamite Kid and Tiger Mask and was defended almost exclusively in Japan. In the mid 90s, Benoit and one of the Villanos held it for a bit when it was defended in Mexico.

    Bret Hart WWE Poll

To those that are under the impression Savage is worth 5 cents as a commentator, pop in WrestleMania 9, King of the Ring 93, or any CHV compilation from that time period and think again. "Ooooooh yeah! Give it all you got if you've got the guts to do da thing in the ring! Do you know what I'm saying Weasel? I'm the Macho Man!" JR & Heenan: "... "
