I think Vince was slowly portrayed as the real man in charge throughout 97. Yeah, let's work the die hard internet fans - who make up such a small portion of the overall audience. The WWF President, dating back to the 70s, was always more of a figurehead than an actual authority-figure. Until Tunney, they almost never appeared on TV. He left on July 4, 1995 and Monsoon took over as interim President. Then Piper took over after Vader squashed Monsoon, then Monsoon returned at WrestleMania XII full-time. I'm not sure if he did anything with that role past 1997. I think Vince's portrayal as the real owner didn't start up until his heat with Austin started brewing in mid to late 97. At that point it was clear that, although Monsoon was President and had control over the wrestlers, McMahon was in the driver's seat as far as the company was concerned.

It's not that they didn't want him around - he just wanted to jump to WCW and make the big money with Hogan while at the same time getting more in-ring action.

I haven't seen that since it aired but I remember it not sucking, aside from the finish that involved the Dungeon of Doom coming out (and Earthquake accidentally squashing Norton ... the big goof - or big gook if I'm the Big Show).

He wasn't injured. As a matter of fact, he was busy at house shows giving the rub to (whether that be by losing to them or simply giving them a good match and elevating them) Yokozuna, HBK, Razor, Flair, and Doink among others between late 92 and spring 93.

Rude would def be one of my pics. Look at the guys that had WrestleMania VIII as a last major show for the WWF. Piper, Jake the Snake, Sid Justice. Three of the biggest names in the company at the time. Perhaps Jake was having issues behind the scenes, but he was simply on fire following his feud with Savage. I think keeping Sid on would have been big money in the long-term. Sid was one of the most over, and popular, heels on the roster and could have put on a lot of interesting bouts with the new champion Savage, Warrior, IC Champ Bret, Bulldog, etc. Much like Rude, I think letting him go just weeks after a main event PPV slot was a bad move.

Congrats, I'm jealous. Ask him if I can be his assistant and get him coffee. Or, you could ask a more serious question like how he got involved in the wrestling journalism industry (something I wouldn't mind doing).

Alright, So last week after I went to the Raw show in Roanoke - I wrote up a nice little article for my college paper. You know, something to put over the WWE and written from the standpoint of someone who knows what the fuck he's talking about. So I write it up and once I got my pics back I sent a few along to the editor to use if they so choose. Well, I never heard back so I just assumed they weren't going to run the piece since this was the last paper of the semester. Low and behold, I made the back cover of the paper. Not only that, I made 3/4s of the back cover of the paper - with a huge ass Booker T pic to go with it. Now that right there, I'm happy about. What pisses me off is that they gave it a hokie title ("A True WWE Fan at Heart") and the caption for the Booker T pic read as follows: "Booker T. Washington rants and rages in the ring as the crowd cheers him on. WWE has always been able to entertain the public, especially college students." Maybe I just go to a stupid college - I don't know ... but BOOKER T. WASHINGTON IS SOMEONE ELSE! "Rants and rages"? WTF does that mean? I gave them a nice little phrase to use if they chose to use the pic - something to the effect of "Booker T. celebrates in the ring following his team's victory in the main event." But NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO, they have to take all my credibility away by fucking up his name and making the show sound like some retarded circus with the "rants and rages" line. Morons...
