  1. I caught the Federer match last night where he came back from being down 2 sets and won. Hopefully he can break Sampras' Grand Slam record before too long, cuz I don't know how much longer he can play at that high a level.

I don't reckon Fed will add to his GS record at this event. I think one of Rafa, Djokic or Tsonga will take it out. Thats not to say that he isn't a chance, but the others just seem to be playing a bit better at the moment.

  2. For those that read Eric Bischoff's book, is this the same venue that he talked about running Nitro from when he was going to buy the company before Vince came in?

    From his book

I had some relationships at the Hard Rock Cafe in Vegas. Brian had some relationships there as well. So we started talking to them about building a small arena on op of one of their parking decks. The arena would be WCW's new home

So I don't think so. From the wiki of The Joint posted earlier in this thread it said that The Joint opened in 1995.

  6. *Australia never aired (wednesday night) Thunder so the Sydney & Melbourne Thunders that aired on TBS on Oct.11 & Oct.18,2000 were aired free of charge to Australian viewers ONLY if you booked the PPV's WW3 and Starrcade. They played totally unannounced after the conclusion of each PPV.

What you didn't see on TV from Mebourne was a dark match before Nitro, Elix Skipper.vs.Rey Mysterio.

During Thunder the following night some that never made it to TV was, Big Vito.vs.Shane Douglas w.Torrie Wilson.

The end of "Disco Duck" a short lived and funny ad on to the Disco Inverno/Alex Write tag team. In a tag team match against The Harris Brothers, Ron, or Don, threw Disco Duck miles back into the stands, it almost reached the upper decks!!!! Disco Duck was never seen on WCW again, and no word on where he got too was ever mentioned. Also at the end of the Melbourne Thunder Goldberg came out and offered every fan in the arena an autograph as a thank you, it almost caused a mass stampede as 11,000+ fans rushed from there seats to the one line that was a human crush of people. Goldberg with an injured and iced up elbow stayed way after midnight signing autographs untill there was no one left in the line, which is a first for the Rod Lavor Arena as NO event is ever permitted to go past midnight, EVER. Both nights also had a "best sign compertition" winner's got a free shirt. So WCW really gave the fans there moneys worth...And Some.

Biggest pop's Goldberg, Sting, Scott Stiener,, Biggest Fan Favorite in EVERY show, Mike Awesome. AWESOME, AWESOME, AWESOME,,,, was chanted everytime he was in the ring, Australian fans just loved that 70's guy & Mike Awesome!!!!! And I think WCW knew it as they had a big 20 man Rumble match to conclude the tour, and your winner was Mike Awesome. :D The crowd went Bannana's and began chanting Awesome!!! He looked almost shocked with how happy the crowd was to see that he won, and no one was stopping chanting Awesome either,,, it went for at least a couple of minutes as he took a bow to all 4 sides of the crowd. Most of this was never shown on the final Thunder broadcast but I was standing right there in the 6th row behind the comantary team of Tony Shivani, and Stevie Ray.

I remember the Thunder taping and I remember Flair got a pretty huge ovation, second only to Awesome. Was this the show where they had Elix Skipper talking shit about Goldberg when he was right behind him, then turned around and got speared?

As an aside, did the Global Warning show in Melbourne, July 2002 ever shown in the U.S. I remember it having about 50,000 packed into the Telstra Dome and it was released on DVD here, but I'm not sure if it was ever shown in the U.S.

  7. Damn, they're bringing in everybody from ROH. If TNA ever starts pulling talent from the indies groups like ROH are screwed. It wouldn't shock me to see this happen if TNA succeeds on Spike TV, especially considering that touring is one of their goals. TNA will not want people seeing their workers in other promotions. I think the recent stories of workers being banned from indies with national DVD releases is the first step. Sure, people like Samoa Joe may have been assured that they can still work for ROH, but I can still see TNA having an influence. Who do you think Samoa Joe and others would work for on nights that would feature shows from both TNA and ROH?

Better than WWE, don't ya think?

CM Punk is likely kicking himself in Louisville right now...

His best friends (Joe and 'Cide) are getting (or will) big pushes on TNA which finally has national exposure and a big promotional machine behind it from Spike...and he's toiling in Louisville waiting to get used as fodder...

Speaking of which, How much longer before TNA goes after Colt Cabana as well?

The man is the total package of work-rate, comedy and charisma.

    Ha!
