Well, according to "Rise and Fall of ECW", he wanted to go the entire company history without winning a title. I vaguely remember that from the DVD. I always just liked the guy busting his ass (and back) every night putting on a show. Plus, he (kayfabe) got Kimona and Beulah. So, he had that going for him.

God, what a wimp. By the way, we're some of the lucky ones who managed to get power. The apartment complexes down the street are still in the dark. 90% of the lights are still out in our neighborhood. The local gas station, when it has gas, has a line at least a block long. Trees are blocking several of the streets around here, and several roofs now have brand new skylights. Much of Galveston, Kemah, and Crystal Beach are pretty much total losses. Pretty much a fucked up situation.
