Eh, American audiences almost always pull for the underdog. Otherwise, why make the journey if they're only going to lose? That's why they changed the ending of Dodgeball, test audiences hated it. What was the real ending? EDIT: Or original. Without spoiling the real ending for anyone who didn't see it, I'd say it was probably the exact opposite. So they lost their gym? And Ben Stiller didn't get fat? Basically, yeah. The original stopped after Ben hit Vince to eliminate him. There was no foul, the Cobras win. They celebrate, and it ends with a frozen shot of Ben celebrating with Michele the Fitness concierge. The director said he wanted that ending to show that the good guys don't always win in the end. Anyway, test audiences hated it, studio execs hated it and told the director to change it. He threw a hissy fit and walked off the picture, but came back and shot the theatrical ending.

He's probably talking about Semmy Schilt, who though Dutch, could understandably be mistaken for German. Dutch? My bad, the name sounded more German than Dutch. The guy is like 6'7" or 8 and is all arms and legs. I kept thinking he belonged on a nature special about praying mantises fighting each other or something.

How long do we have to pick one we're on the clock? Just want to know how often I have to check in.

OK, as a guy that hasn't seen any UFC since the old days before Tank Abbot became a boy band groupie and the Shamrocks were THE last name in MMA, what fights would you recommend I catch? I've seen a couple Ortiz fights and a couple with some tall German guy who looked like he would be broken in half if you got inside his guard. Anything outside of that is an unknown.

March, 17, 2005 WWE SmackDown! Thread

This match rundown with the spotlights and the guys all trying to look intimidating makes me wish WWE had signed The Sandman. I can see him in front of all those spotlights just standing there with a big ol' gut smoking a nonfiltered, drinking a beer, and whacking himself on the head with a Singapore Cane. -

It is good to see London bring the Recommended Daily Allowance of tassels to Smackdown. MJ was disappointingly tasselless. -

Undertaker is SUPERNATURAL!! OK OK enough with the fancy special effects. It's all meaningless without the druids. -
Tom Clancy movie question...
Conspiracy_Victim replied to kkktookmybabyaway's topic in Television & Film
Accoring to the timeline in the books, The Hunt for Red October comes before Patriot Games (IIRC). Sum of All Fears comes several years later. They just changed Ryan to an analyst for the movie since Affleck is obviously younger than Ford and Baldwin. -
Video Games That Might Make Good Movies

Yeah I actually thought of him but he's a bit old now (47). Granted he doesn't LOOK that old, so he may be able to pull it off. If Vin Diesel was MC (not out of the realm of possibility, knowing Hollywood), I would weep for American cinema. -
Well Berkman won't be there until probably May, and Lane's had a good spring, but I'll take a wait-and-see if he can do it for a full year.

The problem is, who to play him? In the books Master Chief is about 6'6" (due to the biological enhancements) and ripped. The Rock would fit physically, but he doesn't really fit MCs strong silent type. -
I'm surprised the Astros are 25-1. With their offense lacking a leadoff hitter unless Willy Taveras steps up and no protection for Bagwell the offense doesn't look too great. I guess they figure our pitching staff can get us a lot of 2-1 and 3-2 wins.

AHHH!! Haven't seen this episode yet!! *sticks fingers in ears and sings loudly*

I'll second Jericho on RAW (poor guy never imagined what was in store for him), the ECW Invasion, "Locutus of Borg", the final episode of Angel, vampire puppet Angel, Angel and the luchadores, and Wesley chanelling John Woo. I'd also like to throw in most times Illyria was on screen. Awesome job by Amy Acker totally changing character

Video Games That Might Make Good Movies

The only question I would have, as with all multiple character fighting games, is which characters get which level of importance. Beyond Mitsurugi and Taki as the mains (as far as I can tell) I have little idea where the others would fit. Funny, I always thought Xianghua, Kilik, and Maxi were the main trio. Xianghua because she gets Soul Calibur, and the other two by association. Nightmare Nightmare Nightmare! Sorry, I just like using him in the game. Grabbing your opponent and pounding his face in with the hilt of your sword never gets old for me. -

Metal Gear Solid? Shoot they're practically movies now anyways. Halo would be sweet if done on an epic scale. The creators at Bungie say they've created this huge 500 year timeline for Halo to develop games, books, and movies so we'll see. Seeing how they created the Spartans (think Kurt Russell in Soldier X10) a la the book The Fall of Reach (I think) would be a blast. I also agree with Max Payne. I think Sin City would be a good indicator of how a Max Payne movie would go over with audiences. Different plots and different built-in crowd, but they'd be the same style. -
Well, I'm not up to date on the prospects this year (at least, beyond the first rounders). I'll do my best and go 3 or 4 though if that's the consensus.

Well, I've done my fair share of bashing and HHHating, but I'll put myself in the "bored of him" group. More than anything, it has been a HHH fest on RAW. They paint him as this man-god who's smarter, stronger, and basically better than everyone else. He's been doing the same shtick for years (what, since DX?) apart from his near obligatory face run during his return from the quad injury. Worst of all (IMO), no one ever gets the best of him for long, and he wins a gross majority of his feuds. I always thought that feuds built up the heel through various tactics to make it seem like the face was up against impossible odds. However, the plucky face kept pushing and striving, and eventually overcame the heel. HHH blows that formula up (Booker T, Orton, HBK) whenever possible. The last face I can remember that really "won" a feud with HHH was Benoit. And that was just so he could transition the belt to Orton who would drop it to......a heel HHH. So far he's actually acted like a cowardly heel against Batista (who, admittedly, is one of the few "faces" that looks like he can face HHH on more than even terms). I'll wait and see what the rest of the buildup does though. I'm betting he gets the better of Batista this week, and I'll let it slide since he is the champ and all. What happens during the rest of the buildup however will go a long way towards either changing or confirming my opinion of him.

Movies that have more footage after the credits
Conspiracy_Victim replied to Lil' Bitch's topic in Television & Film
A very underrated (IMO, of course) movie from the 80's Young Sherlock Holmes. It had a nod to the source material after the credits. Doesn't really work well timeline wise, but cute nontheless. -
And the Rockets take out Phoenix 127-107 in Phoenix. This comes two days after beating the Sonics in their own house two days ago. I guess Chuck was a bit off in his "expert analysis" that the Rockets were softer than his big fat gut. I just hope they don't get complacent and drop the next 2 in Sacto and Golden State.
