Reminds me of Jericho vs. Commissioner Regal. Doesn't quite have the same effect as a Zamboni or a monster truck or a beer truck.

BCS still screwing teams off in video games
Conspiracy_Victim replied to USC Wuz Robbed!'s topic in Video Games
I use the West Coast offense as well. When I start out I usually use a ball contol offense (Run Oriented, etc.) but then as my team gets more and more talented I switch to the WC to move the ball quicker. Plus that way it's a helluva lot easier to recruit 5* QB's and receivers. Then I just get the fastest RB I can find and I'm set. When I sim seasons (which I've done with my built up team) my QB gets about 3000-3500 yards and 40 TD's. And that's against SEC competition and the toughest non-conference schedule I can find. I still need to start up a team in some middle of nowhere spot (I'm thinking Univ. of Alaska) create a cupcake, and see how long it takes me to build a team up. -
So, a movie about giving up material possessions in exchange for a more anarchistic, narcissistic existance gets turned into a video game... oy vey. Would that qualify as: a) ironic b) hypocritical c) stupid e) all of the above

Well it looked like in FOTR that Boromir was the weak link of the group, easily corrupted by the promise of the ring's power. The cut scene in TTT with Denethorn, Boromir, and Faramir does an excellent job of making him out to be sympathetic (caught between his desire for the ring to help his people and his promise to help destroy the ring) and noble (sacrificing himself to try to save Merry and Pippin as well as distract the Uruk-Hai away from Frodo). Peter took out a lot when he took that scene from TTT. Plus I think Sean Bean is one of the better actors around so I'm already biased.

I loved just about everyone's performance in the trilogy. For me though, Ian McKellan as Gandalf and Bernard Hill as Theoden were the best. Ian's Gandalf was able to switch seamlessly from a towering powerful wizard to a kindly old man imparting his knowledge on those he sees as the next generation of leaders. Bernard Hill impressed me to no end, as I said in the other thread. Theoden went from the mind controlled zombie to the reluctant war leader to the inspiring figure that encouraged his men to fight impossible odds for no other reason than to protect those that had apparently abandoned them in TTT.

The OAO Return of The King thread
Conspiracy_Victim replied to Lord of The Curry's topic in Television & Film
Yeah I thought about that ending for quite a while. I had read previews that had spoiled it to some extent so I knew what was coming. My friend loved the movie but was a tad bit displeased with how it ended, and I gave him the Cliff's Notes version of above (which I saw in the movie, but not to the extent of several reviewers). However, writing it down has helped me think about it more. Of course, having an edit feature to spell "Tolkien" correctly and a delete function let this look a lot more coherent . -

Well, my response is about the ending so I'll go ahead and "spoiler" it. Spoiler (Highlight to Read): I thought the bed scene was very fitting. The only character that got a laugh in my theater was Gimli, but that was just because this character who's tried to be all gruff and hard is in fact somewhat the opposite with those he cares about, including the hobbits. As for the coda, I think one review I read sums it up well. Tolkien fought in World War One, and saw soldiers who came home from war (especially those without a family of their own) feel disassociated from society. He even felt it himself to some extent. The horrors of war had changed them to the point that they no longer felt like part of the world they had helped to protect. So, Tolkien wrote an ending that was suitable for characters that had been affected like his fellow soldiers. He let Frodo retreat to The West, retreat from society, and be at peace with himself. Meanwhile, Sam the family man returns home to his wife and kids and picks up his life. Both characters are happy, but they reach that happiness in different ways. Jackson stayed true to that vision. He could have gone the Hollywood route and end it after the crowning in Minas Tirith or even the pub/wedding scene, but instead showed that war can be a life altering experience. By the way I'd like to throw in props to Bernard Hill. His turn as Theoden was amazing, and his speech before Minas Tirith ranks up there with the all-time Hollywood "call to glory" speeches. I'd say more, but I don't feel like breaking out the spoilers tag again. -
The Chronicles of Riddick & Club Dread.

Actually LaParka, I rather liked Pitch Black. Enough for a sequel? Ummmmm, maybe. I can't believe they got Dame Judy Dench to be in it. She doesn't strike me as the type to do crap movies, so I'll give it the old wait-and-see. -

Just got back as well and since I never read the trilogy, I like to think I'm able to approach it as a movie trilogy rather than an adaptation of a book. As a movie, it was absolutely amazing. As a friend of mine said, it had something for everyone. FX, plot, character development, what have you. Everything built up to this movie and it was worth it. By the way, for those of you (like me) who thought the Battle of Helm's Deep was amazing, you haven't seen anything until you've seen the Battle of Minas Tirath. It looked like Peter looked at TTT and said, "Eh, that's ok, but I know we can make everything bigger and better!" Highest recommendation. -

Well I and 6 of my friends have tickets to tonight's midnight showing (technically 12:01, but you know what I mean). They sold out the IMAX theater in like 20 minutes so I missed out on those, but I'll be satisfied with some decent seats at the regular theater. As I was walking out of the box office (at noon, mind you) I saw a small group of half a dozen in full Renaissance Fair regalia walking in to get in line, even though they wouldn't be seating until 11 PM. My friend and I could only laugh. -
DAYUM Mick just go ahead and kick his ass please. Or better yet just go ahead and run him over.

Talk about anti-climactic.
