The last Royal Rumble match...where you didn't
TheOriginalOrangeGoblin replied to a topic in The WWE Folder
Most unpredictable ever = 1989 You have Hogan, Andre, Savage, DiBiase, Bossman, Akeem and others. Yet Big john Studd wins. Now THAT was shocking. -
I think once when Kane whipped Jericho into the corner he went over and out and didn't hold on. I could swear I saw the refs rolling him back in. And 1997 was a good Rumble IMO. Austin's great run, the Owen/Bulldog saga, Austin's face when Bret's music hit, Foley/Funk, the ending, overall it was better than anything between then and 2003.

The first half(up to RVD) was some of the best 20 minutes in Rumble history(only being second to the the final 20 minutes of 1992). But then it went downhill. I didn't like the final 4 and after Jericho went out the Rumble started to suck. But the first half, good comedy(Matt Hardy and Maven had me on the floor laughing) and the right guy going over(like it or not Brock had to win) is enough to make this the best Rumble since 97 IMO.

Mean BY GOD Gene just burned Bischoff. Got a nice pop too. -
I think they never noticed until the HHH match at WMX7.

I'll give 1995 this much, the final 4 was decent considering how shitty the line-up was. Luger, HBK, Bulldog & Crush is probably the best possilbe(cept for Owen replacing Crush). But that ending sure as hell pissed me off. I don't even remember Kane being in the 1999 Rumble.....weird. But Gillberg was there, LOL.
-
1995 had an absolutely terrible field. The only thing close to viable contenders it had was HBK, Luger, Bulldog & Owen(yet he lasted all of 15 seconds). 1999 was terrible from a booknig standpoint with the Austin/McMahon storyline being retarted but it had a decent enough field with HHH, SCSA, Vince(shudder), Owen and I think a few others. But I haven't seen 1999 since it originally aired so I might be remembering incorrectly although I doubt it oculd be worse than 1995.
-
I'll take the 1999 Rumble over the 1995 Rumble anyday. 1995 was the WORST Rumble possible. Although overall 1995 had a solid undercard but i'm talknig about the Rumble match itself.
-
Cole & Tazz > All other commentating combo's in the WWE. In a perfect world we'd have Jesse Ventura and Jim Ross(just for Ventura to make JR his bitch).
-
WWE might swerve us and have Steiner win the belt and Jericho win the Rumble. Fans would expect BPP/Y2J but in reality HBK and HHH will get the wins back at NWO. And HBK will retire after one last HHH/HBK match at WM. Still on the bright side this Rumble has a HINT of unpredictability compared to last year and 2000 when there was NO doubt whatsoever about HHH and Rocky winning it.

From what I heard Rhyno was cleared in December but you never know. Anyways IMO there are two ways this could go: A) Heyman & Team Angle screw Brock(again) and Show goes to the Rumble. Taker comes in around 18 when the ring is full and clears out dead wood, including Show. Then Taker is eliminated by gAy-Train in screwy fashion(heard that they're supposed to feud). Final 4: Jericho, HBK, Edge, Batista Jericho gets tossed but the refs miss it(possibly distracted by a Taker/gAy-Train brawl) and comes back to toss HBK. While this happens Edge tosses Batista but Jericho tosses him. B) Brock beats Big Slow. Taker destroys a lot and eventually gets tossed. Final 4: Brock, Jericho, HBK, Edge HBK & Jericho brawl the whole match and near the end Brock dumps them both and eventually tosses Edge to win. I hope scenario A happens but I'd bet on B.

Thjat would be great but this is the WWF were talking about. IF they were classy they'd show: Bulldog vs Owen, Euro title - Both guys in their peak and both completely unselfish so they both look like a million bucks. Pillman vs Austin. June 1997 - They have to show somethign from Pillman and his match with Austin was probably his biggest in the WWF, barring the 10 man. HHH vs Bret, Octboer 1997 - To show some Rick Rude. He deserves a mention too. But none of that will happen. Instead we'll get the Power Trip vs Canadians tag match showing how courageous HHH was. And probably HBK/RVD from this year to show how amazing HBK's comabck was. And ofcourse a Austin/Taker match. And just for overall affect i'd rank the Owen & Bulldog/Austin & HBK tag match ahead of the Owen/Bulldog match. Just because of how hot the crowd was.

Yup the time of year is upon where a lumbering hoss gets to eliminate numerous other superstars in a desperate attempt to get over. This happens almost every Rumble with some pushes working out(Yokozuna, Nash & Austin) and some not(Kane, Big John Studd & Hacksaw Jim Duggan). So who will this year get the Kevin Nash memorial push at the Rumble: Batista or Bill DeMott? My bet goes to DeMott since they'll be more desperate to push him than Batista cause of his age.
