    PWG Recommendations?

Can anyone recommend the best Pro Wrestling Guerrilla show currently available at HighSpots.com? I have a $25 gift certificate that is burning quite a hole in my pocket, so I thought I would look to the experts for a little help in deciding what show to get. All of their cards look great, I want the show that top-to-bottom would be well worth my money. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Comments which don't warrant a thread

I admire what the guy has done and wish him all the best, but I think it would be in his best interest to stay as far away from WWE as possible. Vince McMahon doesn't care what your disability is; he'll make fun of you anyway.

ECW gets a normal time slot

Ghost Hunters is an alright show. I was pissed when they stopped showing MST3K, even though it seemed that they only had five episodes that they played on a constant loop.

ESPN sucks, so do thread closers

I don't mind Barry Melrose, I wish he could move to OLN and announce some games.

I'll call you crazy for suggesting that any Sci-Fi original movie rates above a turkey.

ECW gets a normal time slot

When you consider the type of movies shown on Sci-Fi, movies with alot of gore, this may be great for ECW as they may not need to tone down their content as much as they would need to if they were on another channel. Presentation will be the key as I could really care less what channel carries the show.

    Is Kawada/Misawa still the standard?

Even though I don't watch alot of Japanese wrestling, I would have to agree with this assessment of the '95 Champion's Carnival. You have every possible combination of Akira Taue, Jun Akiyama, Kenta Kobashi, Mitsuharu Misawa, and Toshiaki Kawada going at it and every match delivers. It is probably the perfect show for anyone that wants to know what all of the hype is about with Japanese wrestling. www.triplecrowntapes.com has alot of videos from various Japanese promotions.

Another reference to the Reformation of DX

It could definitely work and would definitely make for some entertaining television. And sense Triple H and Vince McMahon will both be involved in the angle, you know it will be the #1 priority for the writing staff. There isn't any reason why it shouldn't be successful.

Another reference to the Reformation of DX

Why not let Linda McMahon and Vince McMahon join as the "Old Age In-Laws?"

Another reference to the Reformation of DX

If it's "fun" you want, I don't understand why the Hart Foundation would be ahead of D-Generation X. It is obvious that the crowd wants DX to return and I think the only question left is when will it happen. It would make sense that the first stable for DX to feud with would be the Spirit Squad.

    Joe Injured tonight

He should give this injury all of the time it needs to heal, although Joe seems like the type of person that would push it and return at the earliest possible moment. He just needs to keep one name in mind when it comes to nursing nagging injuries, Kurt Angle.

    NHL 2006 Playoffs thread...

purist alert people complain about hockey not getting any new fans, and then there are comments like this The reason we purists complain is that unless said teams are doing well, no one in the cities shows up. Anaheim, Florida, Carolina all enjoyed surges after post-season underdog runs, but who stuck around when the teams stumbled again? In the last season played, Carolina, Anaheim and Buffalo all ranked in the bottom third of attendance. Carolina's attendance dropped nearly an average of 3500 fans a game. It's not so much that we don't want to see teams in Sun Belt cities, it's that most fans don't seem to either. Interestingly, Edmonton and San Jose ranked 14 and 18, but Edmonton's capacity was well over 100%. This year's Hockey News Yearbook was my source, by the way. http://sports.espn.go.com/nhl/attendance?year=2006 That website says otherwise. New Jersey is widely considered a "traditional" franchise in the NHL, they had a fairly successful season, yet they ranked 26th out of 30 teams in attendace. The Phoenix Coyotes had a terrible season, yet they averaged more attendance than the playoff-bound New Jersey Devils. Other long-time franchises like the Chicago Blackhawks and St. Louis Blues had bad seasons and the fans didn't show up. It isn't just the new franchises and franchises in the South that have trouble drawing attendance. Fans anywhere will stop showing up if a team is consistently among the bottom fourth of the league.

    Ring of Honor- 5.13.06

They had a nice little match on night one of IWA-MS King of the Deathmatches 2003. Homicide manged to knock Hero out three quarters of the way through the match with a Cop Killa, obviously Chris was a little off after that when Homicide slapped him back into wakefulness and dumped a load of water over him. On the whole though a fun little match, with both men clobbering the piss out of one another as you might expect. Also worth a look on that tape set is the Texas Death Match between Hero and Danny Daniels on Night 2 for the IWA-MS Heavyweight belt. Two nice matches amid the blood and guts. I thought there was a match between these two at the King of the Deathmatch tournament and it was a very good match. Chris Hero vs. Danny Daniels was also very good, although it ran a little long.

The OaO Raw thread for 05/15/06

I'll be interested in RAW over the next few weeks just because of the chance to see the D-Generation X reunion. That should be cool to see whenever it happens. I think Vince McMahon will name the four other members of the Spirit Squad as the referee in the Kenny/Shawn Michaels match.

    NHL 2006 Playoffs thread...

Now we have to wait an entire week for the Eastern Conference Finals to begin. Atleast this will give OLN an opportunity to show some classic games. I thought it was pretty funny that as soon as John Forslund, the Hurricanes' announcer, said "let's listen to the fans in the final two minutes" the lights went out in the RBC Center.

    Ring of Honor- 5.13.06

I believe they faced one another in IWA Mid-South a year or two ago. From what I've heard, it was a great hard-hitting matchup.

    ROH 5.12.06

I don't know if I like the idea of a promotion built around "wrestling as a sport" having slow-motion spots in a wrestling match. Ring of Honor seems to want to cater more to "smart marks" these days instead of hardcore fans of professional wrestling.

    ECW ONSII and Vengeance spoiler

Who said RVD is fighting Cena at ONS for the title? He isnt fueding with him, and since winning the $ in the bank match hes been buried in the midcard with all of the other IC contenders. As much as i cant stand Cena he has a lot more marketing appeal than RVD who has a dated look (from his early 90's im a metal guy that also likes bands like Primus and The Red Hot Chili Peppers hairdo, down to his airbrushed tights) his "high risk" style (thats almost every wrestler in TNA and ROH does with more fluidity) and sub par mic skills (where every program has to seem like a shoot on his position in the company, and the highlight is always the end, when he says his name). In the 90's RVD was the shit, and he may have been a big part of the pro wrestling revolution, since then pro wrestling has evolved, but RVD hasnt, this is not the guy that they are going to put a title on, this is not a guy that they are going to have as the face of the company, and this is most certainly not a guy that is going to be a ratings draw. I had always figured that the most logical opponent for RVD at ECW would be Sabu, another ECW draw and main event, i see that selling ONS more than a match that everybody is most likely not expecting RVD to win. You expect alot of WWE fans to even know what Ring of Honor is? And casual WWE fans probably have no interest in watching TNA. That is why Rob Van Dam continues to be successful, he is the only person that WWE fans see that has a style completely different from every other superstar they watch on Monday and Friday nights. If I wanted to put together an ECW card that would draw alot of interest, it would go a little something like this: Jerry Lynn vs. Rob Van Dam Little Guido vs. Super Crazy vs. Yoshihiro Tajiri Masato Tanaka vs. Mike Awesome Sabu vs. Taz Matches that people already know have been great in the past and should be great once again.

Don't get too attached. After she has completed this one storyline, she'll either be relegated to Heat, OVW, or released altogether.

    ECW ONSII and Vengeance spoiler

Yeah, that makes alot of sense. Rob Van Dam actually attempts to make his matches entertaining, which is much more than most mid-carders in WWE could say. He may not be the best wrestler in WWE, but I would much rather see a Jerry Lynn / Rob Van Dam spotfest over a Chris Benoit / Kurt Angle match any day of the week.

I figured the Hurricanes were due for a letdown after their run. Atleast this will give them the opportunity to wrap up the series on home ice.

    ECW ONSII and Vengeance spoiler

I've seen a commercial for a local RAW taping on June 26th that hypes the "dark match" main event as Edge vs. John Cena in a street fight for the WWE title.

    OAO 5/11 Impact Thread

TNA has the base for a fairly decent tag team division: A.J. Styles and Christopher Daniels America's Most Wanted James' Gang Team 3D Just those four teams could have alot of good matches together. They could stand to add a few more legitimate contenders, but it's pretty solid right now.
