I had a feeling this was going to happen. Smackdown may have the better wrestlers but they don't have the star power that Raw does.
-
USA Today published a story today on greedy CEOs who take enormous compensation packages despite the performance of their companies sagging and the oblivious boards who allow it to happen. The article said: "Shares of the pro wrestling marketer tumbled 37% to $9.08. But Chairman Vince McMahon's salary rose 8.5% to $1.1 million, and he received $850,000 for "talent fees" that the company says include personal appearances and developing plot lines for shows." The story did not add that McMahon is taking a whopping $8,764,833 in stock dividends this coming year, all while wrestlers are being encouraged to share hotel rooms and rental cars and stay at budget hotels and drive smaller cars to cut back on expenses to make ends meet during these tough economic times for WWE business. Molly is always the best part of Raw. If it wasn't for her I would have no reason to even tape Raw, I fast forward through everything except any segment involving Molly.

I read that he is expected to sign a Heat offer today. Yeah i just saw that in the Miami Herald website, I guess the Heat and Odom feel that there is no way the Clippers can match the offer.
-
Concerning Odom, it looks like the most likely resolution to this will be Odom signing the one year tender, because according to Sports Illustrated Odom is only going sign the Heat offer sheet if the Clippers promise him that they will not match the offer.

Here is the latest on Lamar Odom Saturday, August 9 Odom seeks fresh start with Miami, Riley -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- By Marc Stein ESPN.com Lamar Odom is flying back Sunday to Los Angeles to tell Los Angeles Clippers general manager Elgin Baylor directly what Odom has been saying publicly for the past week. Odom's message: "It's time for me to go elsewhere." Elsewhere, of course, is Miami. Odom describes playing for Heat coach Pat Riley as his NBA destiny. Yet it's a destiny the Clippers control, because Odom's status as a restricted free agent gives L.A. a 15-day window to match any offer he gets. "I want to see Elgin and tell him face-to-face," Odom said Saturday in an interview with ESPN.com, as he awaits a formal offer sheet from the Heat. "As soon I get back, I'm going to try to get him on the phone, and on Monday morning I'll be right in his office to tell him," Odom continued. "I'm just trying to let the Clippers understand it's my time to move on. It's in my best interests and it's in their best interests. "I'm looking forward to a fresh new start, playing for the Heat and coming back home to the East Coast. I think it's about time that I get my career off the ground and I think Miami is where I need to go. Hopefully the Clippers will understand where I'm coming from." First, Odom must secure a signed offer sheet from Miami, which the Heat has withheld until now knowing that the Clippers have made it clear they intend to match any offer Odom receives. Baylor himself has informed Odom of those plans and, by all indications, L.A. has not changed its stance. Odom is attempting to convince the Clippers that it would be a mistake to "bring a disgruntled employee back," as he told The Miami Herald in Thursday's editions. In Saturday's conversation, Odom said he is simply trying to "let the Clippers know how I feel as honestly as possible." After two trips to Miami and separate conversations with Riley, Odom said he expects to have a signed offer sheet "in the next 24 to 48 hours -- hopefully by Monday." He is seeking at least $60 million over six years. The Clippers have offered Odom a three-year deal worth $24 million and contend that they will match any Miami offer, just as they did when the Heat signed Elton Brand to a six-year, $82 million offer sheet last month. The strategy has proven successful twice already this off-season for the Clippers. After a history of contentious contract negotiations, without a single marquee free agent retained or signed in the club's history, Clippers owner Donald T. Sterling matched offers to Brand and Corey Maggette ($42 million over six years) instead of haggling over the terms himself. Given Odom's status as a longtime Sterling favorite, and with Gilbert Arenas choosing to sign an offer sheet with Washington instead of L.A., the expectation remains that even a $10 million-a-season pitch from Miami for Odom would be matched. Knowing that, Miami has tried to convince the Clippers to participate in an Odom sign-and-trade, on the premise that L.A. might be more willing to let Odom go if it gets something back. The Clippers, though, have shown zero interest in a sign-and-trade, according to league sources. If the Heat decides that an offer sheet is futile, Odom has two options. Resume contract negotiations with the Clippers or sign a one-year tender with L.A. that would make the 23-year-old an unrestricted free agent next summer. This already ranks as the Clippers' most successful off-season in team history, but they insist that the plan going into the summer was to re-sign Brand, Maggette and Odom at the minimum. If Miami does elect to extend Odom the lucrative offer sheet, it will be hoping that L.A. changes its mind after Sterling spent an unprecedented $124 million on the first two players and in the wake of Odom's public pleas to play for Riley. In his interview with the Herald, Odom announced that he considers his relationship with the Clippers "over" and that "I don't see myself playing for any other coach than Riley next year." In Saturday's interview, Odom scaled back his comments slightly, but reiterated his wish to leave the franchise that selected him No. 4 overall in the 1999 draft. "When I was coming to the NBA, I thought I was going to be playing for the Miami Heat and I thought Pat Riley was going to be my coach," Odom said. "A team took back their promise with what they were supposed to do with the Heat (on draft night). Me and Coach Riley, we have a great relationship for two guys who haven't come together like we were supposed to." Odom admitted Saturday that he hasn't played to his full potential in his first four seasons, with his career derailed by injuries and two drug suspensions. "But I don't think I can do it here," Odom said of the Clippers. "It's not my doing to rip them or downgrade anybody. I don't want to do that because people could do the same with me. I did it a little bluntly (in the newspaper interview), and that might be wrong to some people, but I'm just trying to let them know how I feel." ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I say if Riley wants Odom that badly then the Clippers should match the offer and demand Caron Butler and Dwayne Wade in exchange for Odom. As much as I would like for Odom to stay, if he doesn't really want to be here then I don't want him here either.

Besides being a Clipper fan I'm also a Spurs fan because Tim is my favorite player, so I don't get why the Spurs are not going after Olowokandi because he is a good player. If he got you 12 points and 9 rebounds like he averaged last year(compared to David's 9 and 8) then he will make a good addition to the team. But then I would always trust a Clipper free agent more than a white boy center.
-
Being a Clipper fan myself here is my take on their free agents Miller: I really feel that he deserves a second chance. He struggled at the World Championships and it carried over to last season. In his defense its tough to be a leader when no one is on the same page and only care about padding their own stats. However with that been said, i think that $ 9 million is too much money, I wouldn't sign him for that much so I would understand if Sterling doesn't either. Looking back at things the Clippers should have traded for Baron Davis because he is the fearless guy they needed in crunch time when they blew all those 4th quarters leads. Honestly if the games lasted 3 quarters the Clippers would have been a playoff team last year. Maggette: I feel that the Clippers don't really need to have him back because they got Odom, but if you let him go the Clippers might regret for a long long time. I say they should match offer from Utah. Odom: I'm confident he will stay because he is Sterling's boy. Brand: I feel that no matter how much the Clippers offer, he will only sign for one year so that he can become an unrestricted free agent next year. Hope i'm wrong though. Olowokandi: Try to sign him back if possible. I just have this feeling that whoever signs him will have the steal of the free agent market. Piatkowski: He is the man, so they better sign him back too. the good thing is that the NBA also has a salary floor meaning that each team's payroll has to be above a certain number therefore that means that the Clippers have to sign somebody whether they want to or not.

From wrestlingobserver.com Dark matches: ------------- I got there at the tail end of a tag match featuring Mark Henry. His team won, is about all I can say about this match. Carly Colon v. ? - I guess this is Colon's debut, as I haven't seen reports of him wrestling here before. He was announced as "from Puerto Rico." Colon hit a fantastic springboard twisting somersault press and got a rollup for the win. Velocity: --------- Josh Matthews and The Cat are introduced to lead into Velocity. Cat has the ring announcer and referee dance to his music, and then dances with them. FBI v. Spanky/Funaki - Spanky and Funaki get in some good acrobatic stuff, but they're so small they make the FBI look like HHH. They also won, but I forget how. Albert v. Orlando Jordan - Really short match that Albert won with a sloppy looking finisher. Basham Brothers v. Johnny Jeter/? - The Bashams get the home-town pop before the match. They also won. Nidia v. Dawn Marie - Dawn Marie mocks Nidia because Knoble is in love with Torrie, but Nidia gets the win after a short, bad match. Smackdown: ---------- They hit the lights and the pyro, and we're on to Smackdown. After a video package recapping Lesnar getting chokeslammed through the announce table, Vince comes out to lead off. He said people need to learn their lessons, as Kurt Angle did, because he told Angle if he interfered in the handicap match involving Lesnar and Show the previous week, he'd be fired. He also announces Angle v. Show/Haas/Benjamin for this week. Lesnar comes out, and Vince warns him not to cross the boss. Brock proposes a match between he and Vince, and Vince agrees, just not for tonight. He says Brock is still injured from the chokeslam, and orders him to take the night off and not to interfere in Angle's match tonight. Chris Benoit v. Matt Hardy - Semi-finals in the US Title tournament. Slow to start but picks up when Hardy goes for a diving headbutt from the top and misses. Benoit hits the (truncated) rolling Germans, but then misses his own headbutt from the top. After a struggle on the top turnbuckle, Benoit hits the Crossface coming down and gets the win to advance. They shoot some t-shirts into the crowd. They did this twice and it got the second biggest crowd reaction of anything on the show. Backstage, Vince is at his desk. Stephanie walks in and wants to know where Sable is. Vince says he has Sable in a safe place so Stephanie can't find her, but he says Sable gave him some Midol to give to Stephanie for her PMS. Backstage, Kurt Angle catches up with Brock as he's leaving the building. They engage in witty banter about their upcoming title match at the PPV and Brock warns him to watch out for the announce table tonight. Jamie Knoble (w/Nidia) v. Ultimo Dragon - Knoble comes out with the mic and says he got carried away last week when he made his indecent proposal to Torrie. He gets carried away even further and doubles his offer. Nidia leaves in a huff. The match doesn't go long, but Dragon hits a nice Asai moonsault. Billy Gunn and Torrie walk out, Knoble gets distracted and Dragon gets the pin. In a graveyard, John Cena cuts a rapping promo on the Undertaker. Backstage, the APA are passing out fliers for the first annual APA Bar-room Brawl at the PPV. They invite Spanky and Kanyon. Kidman/Rey Mistero v. two masked men - I've never seen the two guys in masks and I don't think they got introduced. Very short match that ended with Kidman holding one of the masked men against the ropes for Rey to hit the 619. Kidman then hit his SSP for the win. Once again, Vince joins us in the ring. He says he wants to recognize Sable, who is up in one of the box seats higher up in the arena. He, shockingly, insinuates that he's had sex with her. He then starts talking about Zack Gowen, who he refers to as a "sickening amputee." John Cena heads out and does a rap about how Vince is going to beat Gowen at the PPV, including the line "We've both got handicap matches it seems / I'm fighting a dead man and you're killing Christopher Reeves." Of course, Undertaker comes out to no-sell some Cena offense before laying him out with the big boot. Rhyno v. Sean O'Haire - Nothing match that ends after less than a minute when the APA come out to give the two men flyers for the Bar-room Brawl. O'Haire ducks out and Rhyno gets beaten and left laying. The Wrestlemania Recall for this week is Butterbean annihilating Bart Gunn at WM15. Nice choice. Eddie Guerrero v. Billy Gunn - Second semi-final in the tournament. Billy Gunn throws some of the worst punches in the entire industry. Watch him smacking his fist into his hand against Eddie's head and you'll see what I mean. Eddie misses a frog splash. Noble runs in after Torrie and there's a ref bump. Eddie cracks Billy with a chair and gets the pin. That leaves him vs. Benoit in the finals, which shouldn't disappoint. Back to Sable again, as Josh Matthews tries to interview her. Steph shows up dressed as a serving lady and pours wine on Sable. They fight in a big pile of food. The Desire video (the one set to the Kid Rock song) is played. This got a better reaction than anything on the show besides the t-shirt shooting and the main event. The biggest pops were for Hogan and Bret Hart. Kurt Angle vs. Big Show + Haas/Benjamin - Good, heated main event. They brawl outside the ring and eventually through the crowd. Once back in the ring, Angle nails them all with a trash can lid. They recover, but Zach Gowen runs out and tries to clean house before Big Show tosses him around. Angle makes the save and hits two Angle Slams and puts Hass in the ankle lock. Big Show breaks that up. Gowen hits a nice dive to the outside and Angle beats Big Show with the stairs. Great spot to finish, where Haas had Angle in the atomic drop position for Benjamin to hit the superkick, but Angle catches his foot and swings it around so that it hits Haas coming back around and Angle slaps the ankle lock on Benjamin for the finish. Angle and Gowen leave together. Overall, not an actively bad show. I guess it would help if you're a huge McMahon fan. Might help sell some PPVs, too, as those two matches seem to be the ones they're pushing the most.

That happened during the break so it wasn't going to be in the show anyways.

I was at the show so I will add a few things Ultimo's entrance is the best in the WWE bar none. Awesome. Marked out like mad when he came out. He won with that move were he has you in a toehold and bridges back and pulls on your chin. Finish to the Spanky/O'Haire match is great, O'Haire countered the Slice Bread #2 with the Cruel Intentions. Huge applause when the Freddie tribute video was shown, crowd even started a loud "Freddie" chant Angle pop was Huge. Some fans still chanted "You Suck", Angle then got on the mike and said that he missed that chant so much, so he asked for his song to start over and urgued the fans to chant it even louder, which we did. He did the same thing with the the What ? chants. He told Brock that he has earned Angle's respect and thanked him for his concern while he was away. They shook hands and hugged to a big round of applause. John Cena was wearing a LaBron James high school jersey and had a great line saying that he is not in it for the money because LaBron took it all. Steph actually got a nice pop when she was appeared in the backstage segment. It looks like they will have the Sable is a lesbian storyline with Steph taking the place of Torrie. The cruiserweight match was incredible, lots of near falls. Top rope side effect, top rope leg drop from Matt. A cool looking twist of Fate by Rey . All in all a fun match I forgot there was his great promo between Eddie and Rey with Eddie motivating Rey before the match. Telling him to win it for his people, which drew a big pop from me and the rest of the "Raza" in the crowd.

You are correct

I just saw in Pwtorch and 1wrestling.com that the WWE is promoting this tag team match as the main event for Smackdown house shows Kurt Angle and Brock Lesnar vs. John Cena and Big Show So i guess it makes Kurt's face turn official. Plus the news you have all been waiting for, Billy Gunn makes his return to the Smackdown roster on June 28 at the house show in Providence. RI

Nope. "You Suck" in time with the music started at the infamous MSG RAW. I was there. The crowd basically thought it up because they were extremley pissed that Angle interrupted HHH's big return promo. Remember how much they hyped that up, and the insane pop Hunter got (that didn't last very long, but still, work with me here)? Angle got HUGE heel heat for interrupting it, a few people started chanting "You Suck!" in time with the music for doing it, and then it spread till the whole arena caught on. It's sketchy at best whether it would have become a regular thing had Smackdown the next night also been in New York, but that pretty much cemented it. -Duo The MSG crowd didn't come up with the "You Suck" chant they actually brought it back. I remember a crowd in 2000 chanting "You Suck" at Angle, but it never caught on until the MSG show.
-
I'm going to get killed for this but i think that Stone Cold vs. Benoit in Edmonton is way way overrated I thought it was really dull and the fact that someone can withstand 10 german suplexes in a row and not get pinned is absurd. I thought their match on Raw after Survivor Series 2000 was much better.
-
WOOOOO!!! I'm going to be there live, in the soon to be home of th Stanley Cup Champion Mighty Ducks, the Arrowhead Pond to see my Olympic Hero make his triumphant return.

John Cena joined the No Holds Barred radio show this past week and below are the highlights. John started off joking about being frequently mistaken for Mark Wahlberg. He said he is always receiving comments about the Funky Bunch and he's even at times had people throw Calvin Klein underwear at him. He said the most heat he's received from a crowd was the night of the Royal Rumble in Boston when he came out wearing the Roger Clemens NY Yankees jersey. He said that people were flashing there weapons at him and aiming there laser beams on him and prior to the event some were concerned that he wouldn't get enough heat because he was from the area but as soon as he walked thru the curtain everyone in the arena hated his guts. John said that his favorite jersey is his Doctor J UMass jersey which he hasn't worn yet and he's holding it back for a special occasion. He listed his raps on Eddie Guerrero and Brock Lesnar as his favorites to date. He said the stuff about Lesnar was very challenging because he rapped about him for 7 weeks and said he had to constantly think of new ways to say Brock was "big, dumb and stupid". He finished by saying that his style reflects the new way to cut the old school wrestling promo. He talked about the Rebellion tour overseas and how it was on that trip that everyone learned of his ability to rap. He said that he and many of the other talents were killing time on the trip by freestyling and when his turn came many people took notice and some of the creative team liked it and told him he would have a chance to do it on television. He added that the twist to getting the opportunity to take his character into it's current direction was that he had to dress up as Vanilla Ice at the Halloween party and get shut down by the makeup lady. He said he had to be willing to make an ass out of himself on TV and swallow his pride a little bit in order to get the chance and he was glad to do it because the company has never really given a serious look to the younger demographic and he feels by adopting his new gimmick he has taken the ball and ran with it. John said that he feels Brock Lesnar is the cornerstone of the WWE and even though the angle they worked together was short lived, he did like the way it was built and he felt the match was put together really well. He added that the 2 of them will lock horns plenty of more times in the future and he's just happy to be involved in the mix at this point. He talked about Kurt Angle's dedication to the wrestling business. He said Kurt doesn't know the word quit and is the most amazing talent he's ever seen. He paid respect to Kurt by saying "Kurt is wrestling, he's what wrestling is all about". He also stated that he still can't process the fact that Kurt is coming back from neck surgery after 6 weeks when it usually takes talents up to 1 year to come back from the same injury. He closed the statement by saying that he can't wait for him to come back because he truly is a diamond in the rough for the WWE. John said he never heard about Ron "The Truth" Killing's interest in battling him in a rap-off. He said he's been in thousands of freestyle battles and has lost 85% of them but he's never turned down a challenge. He feels that he's taken Ron's gimmick and ran with it in the WWE and then said that he has no beef with Ron but if he wants to battle him he'd be glad to do it anytime, anywhere, anyplace, on the phone, in front of people, on the radio, etc. He said he thinks it's great that Ron has interest in battling him in a freestyle and as John continued to talk about it he seemed to get more and more excited about the opportunity and even went as far as to tell us to call up Ron and let him know that he's ready to go. He talked about the proposed plans for the WrestleMania 19 rap-off by saying that the original plan was for him to battle Jay-Z in a rap-off but that never came to fruition because Jay-Z decided to back out because he wanted an extravagant amount of money. He said he loves Jay-Z's music but felt it was low-budget for him to decline the offer over money when he could have been part of a huge pay per view where millions of people would have seen him. He then said that the WWE decided to make Fabulous his opponent in the freestyle rap-off but when the WWE tried to reach him on Wednesday during the week of WrestleMania to videotape a few trailers to promote the buildup he was nowhere to be found. He said the company tried to reach Fabulous again on Thursday and after failing to get in touch again, they had to cancel the segment. John said that his current gimmick is very much who he is. When he's home he wears a throwback jersey and hat and he's always working on his freestyle raps. He said he's very happy to be a part of the WWE and he's taking it one match at a time. He said he'd like to be a champion eventually but it's up to him to work harder and for the powers to be to make that call. He noted that Smackdown hasn't changed that much since Paul Heyman was demoted. He pointed out that guys like A-Train, Big Show and Team Angle were being focused on under Heyman and that still is very much the case on the program. He thinks Paul is a good guy and finished the comment by saying that if there has been a change it's been slight enough for him to not even notice. When asked about whether or not John buys his jewelry at a standard Jewelry store or Home Depot, John joked that the only platinum he has are his frequent flyer miles. He said he can afford the expensive throwback jersey's but when it comes to the expensive ice and platinum materials, he goes the other direction and instead goes for a masterlock and steel chain which can be purchased at any local Home Depot. Honestly, what do all the blind WWE marks see in..
Kurt Angle Mark replied to JN News's topic in The WWE Folder
Couldn't she've just started wearing a bra? Actually Steph got the implants because her chest got smaller. During the early part of 2001, she got into really good shape but along with losing a few pounds her chest got smaller in the process. She said this herself on the Howard Stern show. I believe her story because while watching the shows at that time I noticed or it appeared to me anyway that her breasts were not as big before. -

I still can't believe how many people actually think that is what she said. The point she was trying to make, was that just like a family sticks together during tough times, we as Americans had to get through this together. She just happened to use her own personal experience. -
WWE got some of the best news that they have received in a long time this week as the Raw rating spiked almost a full point from last week's show. This week's edition of Raw did a 4.4 cable rating, with a 6.7 share. The show did hours of 4.3 and 4.5. The rating rose of 0.9 of a point from last week's number, which was a 3.5. It was the highest rating that Raw has gotten in over two months. The show peaked with a 4.9 rating for the 10 p.m. quarter hour, which contained the Goldberg vs. Christian match and the Ric Flair vs. Hurricane encounter. The second highest quarter was the 4.7 that the show did from 9:45 to 10 p.m. The numbers then went down for the rest of the show, with 10:15 doing a 4.5, followed by a 4.3, a 4.2 and a 4.4 for the overrun, which was the Kevin Nash-Chris Jericho match. There are a lot of things that you can probably surmise from the numbers, such as there being a lot of interest in Goldberg's match up. It was also interesting to note that a number of fans left after that match aired. credit: 1wrestling.com

The injury might be real but remember "We lie, we cheat, we steal" So its possible that Chavo could be faking an injury to fool Team Angle.
