As a result of their win, The Human Tornado will face Candice LaRrae tomorrow night and Hero and Necro Butcher will be barred from ringside. Notes: -Attendance looks to be around 400 people. -Super Dragon took the night off. - Low K challenged Bryan Danielson for the PWG World Title to open the show. The match went about 20-minutes and was mostly mat-work and MMA-inspired stuff. CIMA will be wrestling Susumu Yokosuka in a singles match-up tonight. -After his win against Ronin, Scorpio Sky did the classic "make a belt motion around my waist with my hands" taunt. He may challenge Low Ki for the PWG World Title in the future. -The X-Foundation/D.I.F.H match was said to be really cool with a lot of double team moves. Former WWE World Women's Champion and Playboy Covergirl Candice Michelle is in attendance and wearing a Joey Ryan t-shirt. -The crowd was quite dead for Perkins/Koslov, but it was a pretty solid match. -The main event was said to be pretty wild with all 6 people fighting outside in the rain and slipping all over the place. Necro was throwing pebbles at people. LaRae apparently took the stiffest kick ever during the match.

Pro Wrestling Guerrilla: All Star Weekend 6 thread

New card update with both bad and good news on the card: When the phone rings at the Pro Wrestling Guerrilla offices, people usually duck under their desks, or check the caller ID and casually walk away. Why, you may be asking? Part of it is that ill-conceived Columbia House membership from 10 years ago that Dino Winwood still paying off, but the other part is because phone calls always mean bad news. And it was more of the same today when B-Boy contacted the Pro Wrestling Guerrilla offices to tell us he suffered a slight tear of his Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) this past weekend, and therefore, will be unable to wrestle at All Star Weekend 6. We know this news is very disappointing to many fans who were looking forward to this match, but imagine how disappointing the news is for B-Boy, who has a 3-4 month recovery period ahead of him. This news is also very disappointing to us here at Pro Wrestling Guerrilla, since B-Boy was scheduled to face Super Dragon at All Star Weekend 6 in their last match ever. While it would be impossible to meet the high expectations placed on B-Boy and Super Dragon's final encounter, Pro Wrestling Guerrilla Commissioner of Wrestling Dino Winwood and Commissioner of Food & Beverage Excalibur have put their heads together to find an opponent who has more history with Super Dragon than even B-Boy. The opponent the Commissioners of Pro Wrestling Guerrilla found has been a part of Super Dragon's professional wrestling career since the beginning, traveling the length and width of California with him, then around the country, and ultimately around the world. Their rivalry was the centerpiece of the rise of Revolution Pro, the legendary Southern California wrestling promotion where both men gained national prominence. While they faced each other elsewhere, it was in Revolution Pro where their rivalry reached its' height, and a little over four years ago, where their rivalry had seemingly concluded. The opponent the Commissioners of Pro Wrestling Guerrilla found is none other than TARO. While the rivalry between Super Dragon and TARO may have ended inside the ring on November 29, 2003, outside of the ring, the two men continued to harbor hard feelings toward one another. TARO, so distraught by his final loss to Super Dragon, sank into an alcohol-fueled stupor which continued for years. Thanks in part to a timely intervention by, among others, friend and former tag team partner Excalibur, TARO sought the help of a Twelve-step program, and was on the road to recovery. Things progressed extremely well for TARO, who through hard work and perseverance was able to complete steps One through Eight and brought much joy to his friends and family. However, upon reaching step nine, where the recoveree makes amends with those they have wronged, and seeks their forgiveness, TARO hit a stumbling block. There was one individual who would not accept TARO's apology, one individual that rejected his forgiveness, and wouldn't even speak to him. That individual was Super Dragon. For a period of thirteen months, TARO hounded Super Dragon, pleading with him to accept his apology for the years of pain and suffering TARO caused. It was after thirteen months when TARO's sponsor advised him to continue with the remaining three steps, while continuing to seek forgiveness while completing the program. In June 2007, TARO finally completed his twelve-step program, and has been sober for nearly two years, but has yet to receive forgiveness from Super Dragon. While initially seeking apologies through respectful phone calls and thoughtful missives, TARO now feels that he must take his recovery fully into his own hands. "I've only defeated him once in (singles competition) in my entire career, but if the program has taught me anything, it's that where there is a slight glimmer of hope, there are realistic possibilities." says TARO. While Dragon is famous for his stoicism, those who have done battle with Dragon know there is one surefire way to gain his respect: beat it out of him. That tactic worked for Davey Richards, who Dragon regarded as insignificant until their meeting at the 2005 Battle of Los Angeles, and is now two-time co-holder of the Pro Wrestling Guerrilla World Tag Team Championship. TARO continued, "Maybe he just needs a reminder of what we've been through, and how tough I am. He will accept my apology, even if I have to beat it into his head." When questions of conditioning and preparedness arose, TARO was quick to answer them. "Without alcohol, I have to fill the void with something. My 'something' was first my anger toward Dragon. Through the program, I learned to channel those feelings into my triathlon training, and now I've channeled them into becoming ring-ready. I've always wanted a chance to avenge my loss to Dragon, and lately I've an even bigger incentive. Now finally, I have an opportunity to do so." On Sunday, January 6, 2008 at Pro Wrestling Guerrilla's All Star Weekend 6, TARO returns from retirement for one night only to battle arch-rival Super Dragon! The final chapter of the historic David versus Goliath story that helped shape professional wrestling in Southern California!

Pro Wrestling Guerrilla: All Star Weekend 6 thread

First post updated with the complete All Star Weekend 6 cards.
  5. I'll update this thread as PWG releases more info on the shows... "Pro Wrestling Guerrilla will kick off 2008 not with a bang, but an explosion sure to shatter windows for thirty miles in every direction with All Star Weekend 6! Pro Wrestling Guerrilla's first event of the new year is set to take place on Saturday, January 5, 2008 and Sunday, January 6, 2008 at the Van Nuys Armory in Van Nuys, CA. November 20, 2007 - The latest updates for Pro Wrestling Guerrilla's All Star Weekend 6 can be found at the All Star Weekend 6 Mini-Site. Due to a scheduling conflict, Davey Richards will be unable to make it to All Star Weekend 6, however, Commissioners Winwood and Excalibur have done their best to make lemonade out of the situation. Check back soon for more updates! Night One - Saturday, January 5, 2008 - 8pm At the 2007 Battle of Los Angeles, CIMA won the right to challenge "American Dragon" Bryan Danielson for the Pro Wrestling Guerrilla World Championship, but scheduling conflicts prevented the match from taking place. Now, a little over four months later, the title match between these two titans will be the main event matchup for the first night of Pro Wrestling Guerrilla's All Star Weekend 6. Their first contest ended in a draw, but this time the title is on the line. Who will it motivate more, the champion or the challenger? While a scheduling conflict will prevent Davey Richards from attending Pro Wrestling Guerrilla's All Start Weekend 6, Commissioner Dino Winwood has made the best out of a bad situation. For the first time ever, Super Dragon, one half of the Pro Wrestling Guerrilla World Tag Team Champions, will take on Typhoon representative Susumu Yokosuka. Both men are known for overpowering smaller opponents, but Yokosuka is clearly at a disadvantage in this match. Will Yokosuka's speed and agility allow him to hit his Jumbo Tsuruta-inspired lariat, or will Super Dragon overwhelm his opponent with sheer brute force? For the second event in a row, Scott Lost and Joey Ryan's shot at the Pro Wrestling Guerrilla World Tag Team titles has been rescheduled thanks to Davey Richards' lack of sobriety and availability. And as you can imagine, this does not sit well with the would-be challengers, who refuse to believe this is simply a "coincidence." Coincidence or not, Scott and Joey will have to be patient, and in the meantime maintain their Number One Contenders ranking to receive their shot at the belts. But standing in their way is a team that turned quite a few heads in their last Pro Wrestling Guerrilla appearance, and who are looking for a shot of their own at the World Titles. All Star Weekend 6 is Tyler Black and Jimmy Jacobs' opportunity to propel themselves up the tag team ladder here in Pro Wrestling Guerrilla, but a formidable challenge lies ahead of them. In case you hadn't heard, Alex Koslov is something of a big deal nowadays. He has become a bonafide sensation in Mexico, and is now ready to make his return to Pro Wrestling Guerrilla, where he once competed as a tag team wrestler. Citing his star power in Mexico, Koslov believes his name alone is enough to make this a true All Star Weekend, but former training partner TJ Perkins thinks otherwise. One of the most humble and soft spoken athletes in Pro Wrestling Guerrilla, Perkins was outraged to hear that Koslov had made such demands. Can Perkins use his extensive experience to his advantage and teach Koslov some humility? Or will the history books show that Alex Koslov's conquest of America began with a victory over TJ Perkins? Earlier this year at DDT4, Roderick Strong and Jack Evans were scheduled to once again join forces and fight for the Pro Wrestling Guerrilla World Tag Team titles. However, in order to avoid a paternity test, Jack Evans was forced to flee to Japan, causing him to miss the tournament. While it turned out that the child named Jack Evans Jr. was not really Jack Evans' son, this left Roderick Strong two options: find a new partner, or forfeit his spot in the tournament. Roderick ended up making the right decision, teaming with "The Man That Gravity Forgot" PAC, and ultimately winning the tournament and the titles. Unfortunately for Roderick Strong, his team ended up losing the titles just a few months later, but that helped Strong see that he was truly a singles wrestler, and his goal was the Pro Wrestling Guerrilla World Championship. Now these former tag team partners will meet the night before they receive a potential title shot, and a victory here would give either man serious momentum going in to what would be biggest match of their Pro Wrestling Guerrilla career. At DDT4, Pro Wrestling Guerrilla fans were introduced to the Muscle Outlaw'z (Naruki Doi & Masato Yoshino) in a very big way. The duo from Dragon Gate surprised everyone with a victory over tournament favorites Arrogance (Chris Bosh & Scott Lost), and very nearly defeated PAC and Roderick Strong in the tournament semi-finals. Despite losing, their exciting performance was enough to win over the crowd, guaranteeing the Outlaw'z a place in Pro Wrestling Guerrilla whenever they were able to return. Another team that has been able to win over the hearts and minds of the fickle Pro Wrestling Guerrilla faithful has been The Young Bucks. Matt and Nick Jackson have shown a willingness to do anything it takes to first earn a spot on the roster, and now for a shot at the Pro Wrestling Guerrilla World Tag Team Championship. A victory here would not only be the biggest win of The Young Bucks' careers, but it would also propel them to the number two spot for challenging for the titles. But Doi and Yoshino are no pushovers, so the Jackson brothers' biggest win would only come after their toughest test. El Generico began 2007 with the Pro Wrestling Guerrilla World Tag Team titles around his waist, and at two different points throughout the year, he held the World Championship and the Tag Team Championship simultaneously. While the year began very well, it didn't end quite the same way, and El Generico finds himself climbing back to the top of the heap. Karl "Machine Gun" Anderson has been seeking his chance to make an impact on the Pro Wrestling Guerrilla World title picture, and derailing El Generico's quest would be a huge step in the right direction. With Karl Anderson's "bff" Joey Ryan concentrating on the tag team titles, it looks like Anderson will be on his own when it comes to facing the former world champion. For two men that started training together, Ronin and Scorpio Sky's careers have gone down two very different paths. Ronin has primarily been known as a singles wrestler, while Scorpio Sky is mainly thought of as a tag team wrestler. While Ronin has continued to chase singles glory in Pro Wrestling Guerrilla, Scorpio Sky stepped away from the tag team aspect, and now is focused on singles wrestling as well. With the start of the new year, both Ronin and Scorpio Sky hope to prove to fans and staff of Pro Wrestling Guerrilla that they are ready for a shot at the World Championship. That first important step of 2008 takes place at All Star Weekend 6, as this match could have important ramifications throughout the year for either man. Since their feud began at the 2007 Battle of Los Angeles, Chris Hero and Human Tornado have battled one another all over the world, which has only served to intensify the bad blood between the two men. Then at The High Cost of Doing Business in November, Human Tornado took things to a whole new level by bribing Eddie Kingston to betray Chris Hero, and convincing Hero's longtime friend and tag team partner Claudio Castagnoli to stab Hero in the back, as well. With Claudio and Kingston on his side, Human Tornado clearly has the advantage going into All Star Weekend 6. But luckily for Chris Hero, you don't circle the globe wrestling without making a few friends along the way, so Hero called up the one man he knows is always looking for a good fight: Necro Butcher. With two spots taken care of, Hero was about to return to his wrestling rolodex, but then thought about how he got to this point. It was Human Tornado's abuse of Candice LeRae that lead to Hero looking for partners, so why not team with the one person looking for revenge above all else on Human Tornado? Why not team with Candice LeRae? Sure, she would be the smallest person in the match by far, but you don't endure months of abuse without toughening up a bit, and she's shown a knack for getting the upper hand on Tornado from time to time. Candice, of course, jumped for a chance at Tornado, and the second ever intergender six person tag team match in Pro Wrestling Guerrilla history was signed. But it's not just Chris Hero and Human Tornado's pride on the line in this match. If Chris Hero's team leaves the first night of All Star Weekend 6 with the win, then Hero will get a No Disqualification match with Human Tornado on Night Two, with Claudio Castagnoli and Eddie Kingston barred from ringside! If Human Tornado's team is victorious, then Tornado will receive a singles match with Candice LeRae on Night Two of All Star Weekend 6, with Hero and Necro Butcher barred from ringside! The stakes have never been higher in the battle between Chris Hero and Human Tornado! --- Night Two - Sunday, January 6, 2008 - 5pm He was a finalist in the 2007 Battle of Los Angeles tournament, and is a former Pro Wrestling Guerrilla World Tag Team Champion, however singles glory has eluded Roderick Strong. If Bryan Danielson is able to successfully defend his title on Night One, he will face Roderick Strong in a rematch of their hard-hitting October 2007 bout. Will Bryan Danielson be able to prevail over two tough challengers in the same weekend, or will Roderick Strong's determination to prove himself as the top wrestling in Pro Wrestling Guerrilla propell him to the top? Nearly two years ago, Jack Evans was invited by CIMA to compete in Dragon Gate, one of the hottest wrestling promotions in Japan. While training and touring together, both men developed a highly competitive rivalry with one another, driving both men to excel. Now that rivalry comes to Pro Wrestling Guerrilla for the first time ever, as Jack Evans will face CIMA on the second night of All Star Weekend 6. If CIMA is able to defeat Bryan Danielson on night one, his newly won Pro Wrestling Guerrilla World Championship will be on the line in this match. Will that be what takes this international rivalry to a whole new level? Over the course of the last seven years, B-Boy and Super Dragon have battled countless times, sometimes against each other, sometimes by each other's side. At All Star Weekend 6, these two Southern California trueborns will meet head to head for the final time. B-Boy has decided to end his professional wrestling career, and asked for one last match with Super Dragon to once and for all prove who is the better man. Dragon, who doesn't respect many people, respects B-Boy enough to give him that last chance. B-Boy will only be appearing on the second night of All Star Weekend 6, and it will be his last ever Pro Wrestling Guerrilla appearance, so this truly is his final shot. B-Boy would like to end this rivalry with the upper hand, to end his career on a high note. But Super Dragon isn't planning on going anywhere. As one half of the Pro Wrestling Guerrilla World Tag Team champions, can he afford to lose to B-Boy, especially if he can never avenge the loss? This historic rivalry has spanned the entire world, and it now comes full circle right where it began, in Southern California. On January 6, 2008, witness the final encounter between B-Boy and Super Dragon. Only at All Star Weekend 6. Only in Pro Wrestling Guerrilla. In this match up between two of the youngest and hottest teams in professional wrestling, the fans may be hard pressed to pick a favorite. Tyler Black and Jimmy Jacobs almost instantly became fan favorites after their first match in Pro Wrestling Guerrilla back at All Star Weekend IV. The Young Bucks (Matt and Nick Jackson) have also been able to connect with the fans over the past few months, but they haven't always matched that success inside the ring. At All Star Weekend 6, it will be up to the fans to decide which team to support in this match that will showcase four men who are future of not only Pro Wrestling Guerrilla, but professional wrestling itself. At the 2007 Battle of Los Angeles, Susumu Yokosuka was eliminated from the tournament in the first round, and that is something he has not been able to live down. All Star Weekend 6 is Yokosuka's chance for redemption. On the first night, Yokosuka faces Super Dragon, a former Pro Wrestling Guerrilla World Champion, and a victory there would push Yokosuka's stock toward the sky. A victory over former world champion El Generico would send Yokosuka's stock through the roof, and guarantee him a shot at whoever leaves All Star Weekend 6 as champion. But it's important to remember that El Generico is a former world champion, and is looking to get back on the road to title. A victory over Yokosuka would definitely kickstart that process, but El Generico has a long way to go before he gets back to the top. After Commissioner Dino Winwood scheduled the Intergender 6-Person Grudge Match on Night One, Chris Hero demanded a No Disqualification match with Human Tornado, with Tornado's newfound allies Claudio Castagnoli and Eddie Kingston banned from ringside. While Dino was happy to oblige the request, Human Tornado would only accept on one condition: he would receive a match with Candice LeRae in return. Dino could not, in good conscience, accept these terms, so he left it up to Commissioner of Food & Beverage Excalibur to broker a deal. While Excalibur considers himself to be a shrewd negotiator, without a personal stake in this match, he was more concerned with basketball scores than keeping Candice LeRae out of harm's way, and that's how this match ended up with these stipulations. Should the Israelis and Palestinians come calling, I don't think Dino will be bringing Excalibur to the bargaining table. With the tag team title picture heating up here in Pro Wrestling Guerrilla, Scott Lost and Joey Ryan are looking to stay on the top of their game for their eventual shot at World Champions Davey Richards and Super Dragon. When Commissioner Winwood offered a match with the Muscle Outlaw'z on the second night of All Star Weekend 6 to Joey and Scott, they eagerly accepted, thinking they would be facing a pair of illiterate second graders. However, when he heard that Masato Yoshino was one half of the Muscle Outlaw'z, the color drained from Joey Ryan's face and he nearly went into shock. This couldn't be the same Masato Yoshino that ran laps around Joey, almost causing him to go into cardiac arrest? When Scott Lost heard that Naruki Doi was the other half of the Muscle Outlaw'z, and that was the actual name of the team that defeated he and Chris Bosh at DDT4, not just "those Japanese dudes," Scott needed a minute to compose himself. Will Joey and Scott be able to pull it together at All Star Weekend 6, or will the Muscle Outlaw'z win this match via psychological warfare before they even hit the ring? When word spread of Alex Koslov's new attitude upon his return to Pro Wrestling Guerrilla, former training partner TJ Perkins was quite upset. Here was a guy who is gone for over a year, comes back, and expects to be treated like a king. But where TJ Perkins sees rampant unprofessionalism, Karl "Machine Gun" Anderson sees opportunity. If he is able to take down former World Champion El Generico and Alex Koslov, one of the hottest wrestlers in Mexico today, in the same weekend, Karl Anderson would be the hottest commodity in Pro Wrestling Guerrilla. A pair of wins for Anderson would put him in line for a shot at whoever leaves All Star Weekend 6 with the World Championship. However, Koslov intends to prove that he does not create opportunities for people like the "Machine Gun." Alex Koslov creates opportunities for himself and himself alone. Plus more with Necro Butcher, Claudio Castagnoli, Eddie Kingston and others.

PWG: 2007 Battle Of Los Angeles thread

It was a great match. I'd put it way up there on my list of favorite 2007 PWG matches. Can't go wrong with the DDT tourney. UPDATE on THE BOLA: Quick version: Bosh is out, Necro Butcher is in, and a few matches have been switched around. Long version: 2007 Battle of Los Angeles Takes Place August 31, September 1 & 2 By Silverback, PWG Staff Writer Stewartville, CA - For the last two years, Pro Wrestling Guerrilla has held the Battle of Los Angeles tournament, and for the last two years, each tournament has, due to injury, seen some changes to the lineup. This year will be no exception, as Austin Aries already defeated Rocky "Azucar" Romero, to win Romero's spot in the tournament. Now word has come that an injury to the winner of the 2005 Battle of Los Angeles winner, "Photogenic" Chris Bosh, has forced him out of the tournament. Not only that, but Bosh has decided to take an indefinite leave of absence from Professional Wrestling. In the wake of this news, PWG Commissioner of Professional Wrestling Dino Winwood has decided that the best possible solution is to offer fans a match they were recently deprived of as a first round match 2007 Battle of Los Angeles. Despite his luck at PWG fourth anniversary show, "Mr. Wrestling" Kevin Steen will now face "Mr. Fighting" Necro Butcher in the C Block of the 2007 Battle of Los Angeles. Originally scheduled to take place at Giant-Size Annual #4, the match between Necro Butcher and Kevin Steen was a form of punishment for Kevin Steen's vocal opposition and continual defiance of PWG management. However due to some liquor induced transportation problems, the card for Giant-Size Annual #4 was changed, and Kevin Steen ended up with a shot at the PWG World Tag Team Titles, which he won with partner El Generico. This good fortune did not prevent Steen from running his mouth about Dino Winwood, and as a result, Kevin Steen is once again scheduled to face Necro Butcher, but this time the stakes have been raised exponentially. Necro Butcher's mere presence greatly alters the tournament landscape, not only from a strategic standpoint for the other competitors, but also from a matchmaking standpoint. In order to give the fans the best tournament matches possible, Commissioner of Food & Beverage Excalibur and Commissioner of Wrestling Dino Winwood have altered two other tournament matches. First, on Night One of the tournament former PWG World Tag Team Champion Roderick Strong will now take on Austin Aries, who made his PWG return last month at Giant-Size Annual #4. On Night Two of the tournament, not only will Necro Butcher battle Kevin Steen, but 2006 Battle of Los Angeles winner Davey Richards will face the debuting Nigel McGuinness. We apologize for the changes to the card, and hope that the fans will nonetheless enjoy all three nights of the 2007 Battle of Los Angeles. If you haven't purchased your tickets yet, it would behoove you to do it as soon as possible! A very small quantity of First Row 3 Night Passes are left, and once they're gone, that's it! 14. PWG Presents "Giant-Size Annual #4" on Sunday, July 29! By Silverback, PWG Staff Writer Ventucopa, CA - As Pro Wrestling Guerrilla (http://www.prowrestlingguerrilla.com) enters the month of July and celebrates its fourth anniversary, it's easy to think back upon what has transpired to bring PWG to this point. Too easy, in fact, which is why we are looking to the future. But not at the 2007 Battle of Los Angeles, that's too far into the future. No, we are looking forward just far enough to see July 29, 2007, when at the Burbank Armory, shockingly located in Burbank, California, PWG will celebrate our fourth anniversary with "Giant-Size Annual #4!" What kind of show is big enough to be named "Giant-Size?" You'll be glad you asked, because scheduled to take place on Sunday, July 29 at 5:00PM is: PWG World Championship Match El Generico © vs. "American Dragon" Bryan Danielson – To tell the story of this match, we will have to look to the past, which is what we weren't going to do, but this wouldn't be very interesting and we wouldn't have a lot to talk about if it weren't for the past. Last month at "Roger Dorn Night," Bryan Danielson was slated to challenge El Generico for the PWG World Championship in a singles match until Davey Richards and "Mr. Wrestling" Kevin Steen backed PWG Commissioner of Wrestling Dino Winwood into a corner, demanding their own shots at the belt. Commissioner Winwood relented, granting Richards & Steen a shot at the title in the form of a 4-Way Match with El Generico and Bryan Danielson, which PWG Champ El Generico went on to win. This did not sit well with PWG Commissioner of Food & Beverage Excalibur who, at the time, was away on international beverage business, touring a Horchata factory in Mexico, and insisted that Danielson receive a fair shot at the title. That is why on July 29 at "Giant-Size Annual #4" El Generico will once again put the PWG World Championship on the line against Bryan Danielson, but this time there will be no outside factors in play. One on one, mano-a-mano, may the best man win. And drink his fill of Horchata, no matter his ethnic origin, in celebration of a hard fought victory. PWG World Tag Team Championship Match - Best 2 out of 3 Falls "The Man That Gravity Forgot" PAC & Roderick Strong © vs. The Briscoe Brothers (Jay & Mark Briscoe) – Once again, we are forced to look at the not-too-distant past to learn the story of this budding rivalry, and this important title match. At PWG's DDT4 in May, Commissioner of Food & Beverage Excalibur picked the Briscoe Brothers as the first team to be entered in the tournament, and forsaking neutrality, his favorites to win. Excalibur would later attempt to enter the team of Davey Richards & Roderick Strong in the tournament as well, but was first flatly rejected by Richards, and then by Jack Evans, who was to replace Richards. Writing Roderick Strong off as a pariah, Excalibur gave Dino Winwood control of the team, and in what turned out to be a brilliant strategic move, Winwood brought in PAC to team with Roderick Strong. PAC & Strong were a true dark horse team if there ever was one. In a tournament filled with experienced tag teams, these two men had barely spoken to one another before, let alone teamed together. But they made the most out of the opportunity, growing as a team over the course of the tournament and most importantly, winning matches, ultimately defeating the Briscoe Brothers in the tournament finals. Then last month at "Roger Dorn Night," the Havana Pitbulls received a shot at PAC & Strong's newly won titles, which Excalibur considered to be a "gross oversight." Remarking that the Pitbulls were defeated by the Briscoes in the DDT4 semi-finals, but the Pitbulls were still first in line for a title shot was "inconceivable," Excalibur harassed Dino Winwood with a series of off-hour (read: 3AM-6AM) phone calls demanding that the Briscoe Brothers receive their fair shot. With no love loss between Winwood and the Bricoes, it was a tough decision to make, but ultimately Dino sided with his need to sleep, granting the Bricoes a shot at the title, and to leave no doubt which is the better team, a best 2 out of 3 falls match. This strategy may stop the late night phone calls for now, but will it be any better if the late night harassing is replaced with gloating? Unsanctioned Street Fight For Scorpio Sky's Reinstatement Joey Ryan vs. Scorpio Sky – We must, yet again, return to the past, this time at "Roger Dorn Night," where the rivalry between Joey Ryan and Scorpio Sky came to ahead. In the months since Scorpio Sky's banishment from PWG, Joey Ryan has done many things to help fill the void left by Sky in The Dynasty. First, he trotted out a fake Scorpio Sky, not even attempting to fool the fans or management that this was the same man who was an integral part of The Dynasty's roster, hoping just to capitalize on the name. Then, he brought Karl Anderson into the fold, stating privately that Anderson was better than Sky could ever wish to be, though it is unclear if that is in the wrestling or friendship department. Each move only served to anger Sky further, until finally he was pushed past his breaking point and, posing as a fan, attacked Joey Ryan. This is when PWG Commissioner Dino Winwood intervened, saying that he wished he could let his friend Sky back into PWG, but rules are rules, and Sky was out. Unless, that is, Scorpio Sky were to defeat a former PWG Champion at a PWG event, then consideration could be given to Sky's reinstatement since he has proven himself a worthy competitor to a man that formerly held PWG's highest individual title. But if he isn't allowed to compete on PWG shows, how could this happen? What if at a PWG show, during "intermission," a fight were to break out, and a PWG referee, on his way to the restroom, were to witness the fight and declare a winner, but it wouldn't actually count as a match, since it happened during "intermission?" Then Scorpio Sky could face Joey Ryan during a PWG event, get a shot at reinstatement, and prove himself a worthy competitor to a man who formerly held PWG's highest individual title. When reached for comment, Joey Ryan had nothing to stay, instead referring to Commissioner of Food & Beverage Excalibur's comments; "How can an unofficial match have bearing on the decision of a governing body in this promotion? It's ludicrous! Dino Winwood is drunk with power! Though if such a "fight" were to happen, I would hate to see what The Dynasty would do to a "fan" who laid his hands on Joey Ryan. Strike that, I would love to see what happens. But make sure Sky signs a waiver first." The Butcher Is Back! Non-Unsanctioned Street Fight "Mr. Wrestling" Kevin Steen vs. Necro Butcher – What happens if you speak out against PWG management in public? You are asked politely not to. What happens if you continue to do so? Kevin Steen is about to find out. If we were to look into the past, well before PWG was created, to the days of medieval Europe, and imagine PWG as a fiefdom, and Kevin Steen as a vassal, the solution to this problem would be simple. Kevin Steen would be stuffed into a wooden barrel and rolled down a hill. On fire. The barrel, not him. But times have changed, and the ruling class is much more civil that they were in those times. That is why both Excalibur and Dino Winwood agreed that if Kevin Steen were to be taught a lesson, the Commissioners were not the men to do it. Hence, the PWG return of Necro Butcher, who may not bring any flaming barrels with him (they're against TSA regulations), but he will be bringing plenty of fight directly to "Mr. Wrestling." Another "Giant-Size" Return! Austin Aries vs. Rocky "Azucar" Romero – When Austin Aries last appeared in PWG, it was in the second round of the 2006 Battle of Los Angeles, making it further than half of the people entered, where he was derailed by eventual tournament winner Davey Richards. This is why when the newly liberated star asked PWG management for a chance to prove he hasn't lost a step since the last time he appeared in PWG, the management was more than oblige. Though as always seems to be the case in PWG, it won't be easy for Aries, because standing across the ring will be Rocky Romero, who by all accounts is still bitter about not being one half of the PWG World Tag Team Champions. It's a tough road ahead of Austin Aries, but from this point on his successes and failures depend more on his ability to win matches than anything else. Third PWG Return Match! Fergal Devitt vs. Davey Richards – Since making his PWG debut in 2005, Davey Richards has seen quite a few people come and go while he has been able to stick around, but one face he never thought he'd see again was Fergal Devitt's. Devitt appeared in PWG only once in early 2006, and was on the losing side of a six-man match, but since then his career has taken an upswing. In Japan, where he is known as Prince Devitt, Fergal joined the New Japan dojo, he worked his way up the ladder to earn a spot in the 2007 Best of the Super Junior tournament. Unfortunately for him, his tournament was cut short by injury, but now that he is healed, Devitt is looking for a way to prove himself yet again. And what better way than to defeat the man who won the 2006 Battle of Los Angeles in single competition? Devitt may have hopes of impressing his teachers at the dojo with a victory in PWG, but Davey Richards wants to have momentum going into the 2007 Battle of Los Angeles, and if that means breaking Devitt's other knee, then that's exactly what he'll do. Human Tornado (w/ Candice LeRae) vs. Tony Kozina – Last month at "Roger Dorn Night," Tony Kozina made his return to PWG after an extended tour of the Southeast United States, and though he was defeated, he turned a lot of heads with the lengths he was willing to go to win. That dedication to winning ended up costing Kozina the match, and very nearly ended his career, but it did earn him an invitation back to PWG. And after all, that's what is important in life, not full usage of all of your limbs. Another person who also very nearly ended up in a wheelchair at "Roger Dorn Night" was Candice LeRae. Finally seeming to take steps toward freeing herself from Human Tornado, Candice underestimated the resilience of Tornado, and unfortunately for her, was forced to pay the price. Now that Tornado has once again restored order to his stable, he has turned his focus back to the ring, where Tony Kozina is waiting. Waiting not only for Human Tornado, but waiting to beat him in a way that will make Tony Kozina's stock skyrocket in PWG. The Dynasty (Karl "Machine Gun" Anderson, "Photogenic" Chris Bosh, & "The Professional" Scott Lost) vs. The Young Bucks (Matt "Mr. Instant Replay" Jackson & "Slick" Nick Jackson) & TJ Perkins – After very nearly missing their match at "Roger Dorn Night" due to flight delays, Chris Bosh and Scott Lost very nearly lost their pride as well at the hands of The Young Bucks. The debuting brothers turned a lot of heads with their agility and will to win, but at the end of the day, it seemed like Arrogance's experience is what gave them the win. This time, the Bucks have joined forces with "The Youngest Old Timer In Wrestling" TJ Perkins, who despite being only a year or so older than the brothers, he has roughly five more years of experience than they do. Will Perkins be able to unite the brothers and work together like a well oiled machine, or will the unified front of Arrogance and the "Machine Gun" prove to be too much for the youngsters? Plus Ronin, Top Gun Talwar, PWG Commissioner of Food & Beverage Excalibur, Commissioner of Wrestling Dino Winwood, and more! Also on July 29, 2007 at "Giant-Size Annual #4," it will be your first opportunity to buy tickets for the 2007 Battle of Los Angeles! Seating and price information will be announced soon. Pro Wrestling Guerrilla's "Giant-Size Annual #4" takes place at the Burbank Armory on Sunday, July 29, 2007 at 5:00PM. The Burbank Armory is located at 3800 W. Valhalla Dr., Burbank, CA, 91505. General Admission tickets are $20 and will be available at the door. For more information, please visit http://www.prowrestlingguerrilla.com. Card subject to change. --- Great card. 15. I'll be updating this thread throughout the next few months with all the latest news on the BOLA... The complete first round has been announced: Night 1 of the 2007 Battle of Los Angeles on August 31, 2007, will feature: First Round Match - A Block Chris Hero vs. Joey Ryan First Round Match - A Block Austin Aries vs. Roderick Strong First Round Match - A Block Jimmy Rave vs. Matt Sydal First Round Match - A Block Alex Shelley vs. Tyler Black First Round Match - B Block Doug Williams vs. "Double C" Claudio Castagnoli First Round Match - B Block Jack Evans vs. "The Man That Gravity Forgot" PAC Night 2 of the 2007 Battle of Los Angeles on September 1, 2007, will feature: First Round Match - B Block CIMA vs. Human Tornado (with Candice LeRae) First Round Match - B Block "The Professional" Scott Lost vs. SHINGO First Round Match - C Block Nigel McGuinness vs. Davey Richards First Round Match - C Block Necro Butcher vs. "Mr. Wrestling" Kevin Steen First Round Match - C Block Dragon Kid vs. Susumu Yokosuka First Round Match - C Block El Generico vs. Tony Kozina 2007 Battle of Los Angeles Takes Place August 31, September 1 & 2 On August 31, September 1 & 2, 2007, Pro Wrestling Guerrilla's Battle of Los Angeles will take place for the third consecutive year, with a wider variety of competitors than ever before. Each year, PWG has raised the bar with the Battle of Los Angeles tournament, and this year will be no exception. Venue, ticket prices, and other information will be announced soon, but right here on the PWG Forum and the 2007 BOLA Mini-Site (http://www.prowrestlingguerrilla.com/BOLA2007/) we will be announcing the First Round matches every two to three days, starting July 9, 2007. Now, in no particular order, the competitors of the 2007 Battle of Los Angeles: 01 - Joey Ryan - The longest reigning PWG World Champion clinched his spot in the annual tournament by defeating Ronin at Night 1 of DDT4, automatically making Joey Ryan the first entrant in the tournament. Since losing the belt in early 2007, Joey has been looking for the path of least resistance back to the PWG World Championship. Unfortunately for him there's no easy way to the top, so he's setting his sights on the 2007 Battle of Los Angeles. More specifically, his sights are set on the Wildcard match the tournament winner receives, which Joey Ryan has already stated will be a World Title Shot for the former champ. 02 - "The Anarchist" Doug Williams - The 2007 Battle of Los Angeles will mark the PWG debut of arguably the finest mat technician in the world, "The Anarchist" Doug Williams. A 14 year veteran of the sport of professional wrestling, Williams has recently been beating respect for the British style of Wrestling into the heads of wrestlers and fans alike in Pro Wrestling NOAH. But Williams decided that the Japanese have had enough for now, and will instead turn his amateur destructo-phrenology on the competitors of the 2007 Battle of Los Angeles tournament. 03 - Susumu Yokosuka - Another competitor who will be making his PWG debut at the 2007 Battle of Los Angeles is Dragon Gate star Susumu Yokosuka. Yokosuka has been with Dragon Gate since the company formed, and in that time has had many memorable battles with 2006 Battle of Los Angeles quarter-finalist Dragon Kid. Yokosuka's brings not only his speed and hard-hitting offense, but his desire to prove himself on the international stage to the 2007 Battle of Los Angeles. 04 - Dragon Kid - Making his return to PWG for the 2007 Battle of Los Angeles will be Dragon Gate competitor Dragon Kid. In his last PWG appearance, Dragon Kid was eliminated from the 2006 Battle of Los Angeles by Roderick Strong in the quarter-final round. Since then, Dragon Kid has undergone some changes and taken on a much more aggressive attitude inside the ring. But will the new attitude be enough to carry Dragon Kid all the way through the 2007 tournament? 05 - "Photogenic" Chris Bosh - The winner of the inaugural Battle of Los Angeles tournament in 2005, Chris Bosh returns to the tournament in 2007 intent on winning it once again, cementing his "Mr. September" reputation. Bosh was one half of the PWG World Tag Team Champions during the tournament in 2006, and therefore did not compete. He has no such hindrance going in to this year's tournament, but how much will his loyalty to The Dynasty come in to play if he crosses paths with stablemate Joey Ryan in the 2007 Battle of Los Angeles? 06 - Davey Richards - The other Battle of Los Angeles winner, Davey Richards, is the sixth entry into 2007's tournament. After having great success as a tag team wrestler for the majority of 2006, Richards entered the tournament and won by defeating CIMA in the final round. After winning, he immediately decided to team with Super Dragon once again, and use his Wildcard match to go after the PWG World Tag Team titles, which ultimately did not happen. Since then, Richards only held the PWG World Tag Team titles for a brief 24 hour period, and has decided to refocus his PWG career on singles wrestling. However, unlike tag team wrestling, if Richards loses in the 2007 Battle of Los Angeles tournament, he will have no one else to blame but himself. 07 - Jimmy Rave - The first North American competitor set to make their PWG debut in the tournament, Jimmy Rave is the seventh entry into the 2007 Battle of Los Angeles. Rave, who first made his mark on the world of professional wrestling in his home state of Georgia, has gained a reputation as a world class competitor over the course of his career. From his epic battles with AJ Styles and "American Dragon" Bryan Danielson, to more recently when he has toured Japan with Dragon Gate, Jimmy Rave is a hot commodity in the world of professional wrestling. This makes him a perfect competitor for the 2007 Battle of Los Angeles. 08 - Chris Hero - Making his second Battle of Los Angeles appearance, Chris Hero is the eighth entry into the 2007 tournament. A master of many style of professional wrestling, Hero's versatility did not help him last year as he was caught off guard by the quickness of Genki Horiguchi, and eliminated in the first round of the tournament. Since then, Chris Hero has toured with Pro Wrestling NOAH and continued to improve his already impressive skill set, but it remains to be seen if that will help him in the 2007 Battle of Los Angeles. 09 - Human Tornado - He is a familiar face to fans of PWG, but this year will mark his first tournament appearance; Human Tornado is the ninth competitor in the 2007 Battle of Los Angeles. In his short career, Tornado has already reached the top of the mountain in PWG, holding both the World Championship and the World Tag Team Championship on separate occasions. However, his reigns were brief, but now a more experienced Human Tornado is ready prove he can climb back to the top of the mountain, and this time stay there. 10 - Jack Evans - The tenth entrant in the 2007 Battle of Los Angeles tournament is a veteran of both previous tournaments, but has never advanced past the semi-final round. In 2007, Jack Evans hopes to rectify that. After spending the majority of the last sixteen months wrestling and training with Dragon Gate in Japan, Evans feels he is at the highest level of his career so far. Combining his high flying offense with smart (but fancy) mat wrestling, Evans feels he is fully prepared to not only go past the semi-finals in 2007, but win the whole thing. 11 - Tyler Black - The eleventh competitor to be announced for the 2007 Battle of Los Angeles has only made two appearances in PWG, but in those appearances, Tyler Black has impressed the fans and management immensely. Originally teaming with Jimmy Jacobs in PWG, an ACL injury to Jacobs prevented their team from competing in the DDT4 tournament. Now flying solo, Black's most recent appearance was hugely successful, defeating the longest reigning former PWG World Champion and the first entrant in the 2007 Battle of Los Angeles, Joey Ryan. This victory instantly earned Tyler Black a spot in the 2007 Battle of Los Angeles. Will his stock continue to rise, and a new legacy in PWG be born? Or will it all prove to be too much, too soon for young Tyler Black? 12 - "The Man That Gravity Forgot" PAC 13 - Roderick Strong 14 - El Generico - The next three entrants into the 2007 Battle of Los Angeles tournament are already familiar with fans of PWG, and fans of professional wrestling around the world. Together, PAC, Roderick Strong, and El Generico make up the three current champions in Pro Wrestling Guerrilla, and for the first time ever, they will all be entered in the Battle of Los Angeles tournament. That is, if they are still champions after July 29 at PWG's Fourth Anniversary show. All three men were given the option of not competing, and defending their titles in non-tournament matches over the Battle of Los Angeles weekend, but all three competitors declined. When asked why, they each stated that even though holding their title in PWG is a huge honor, being able to win the Battle of Los Angeles is something else entirely. Because the 2007 Battle of Los Angeles is about winning the tournament and not capturing the titles (for that weekend, at least), it was determined that none of the belts would be on the line in tournament bouts. So with all three men sharing titles along with the same sentiments, the twelfth, thirteenth, and fourteenth competitors in the 2007 Battle of Los Angeles are PWG World Tag Team Champions PAC, Roderick Strong, and PWG World Champion El Generico. 15 - Matt Sydal - A veteran of last year's tournament, Matt Sydal is intent on having a better showing in the 2007 Battle of Los Angeles than he did in 2006. Due to a hectic travel schedule, Sydal arrived in Los Angeles mere hours before the tournament began, and was caught off guard by the high level of competition he faced. These factors contributed to a first round loss for Sydal, something he does not wish to repeat again. This year, Sydal is scheduled to arrive in Los Angeles a few days prior to the tournament, ensuring he is wrestling at peak physical and mental condition. 16 - "The Professional" Scott Lost - The sixteenth entrant in the tournament is another man making his second Battle of Los Angeles appearance, and he is also another man committed to making it past the first round. Scott Lost is known primarily for his tag team wrestling in PWG, but he hopes that the 2007 Battle of Los Angeles will be his opportunity to repeat what his tag team partner Chris Bosh did in 2005. However, with an expanded field, all three PWG World Champions, and both previous Battle of Los Angeles winners in the tournament, Scott Lost may be in for the toughest weekend of his life if he expects to win this year's tournament. 17 - "Double C" Claudio Castagnoli - The other half of the tag team known as the "Kings of Wrestling," Claudio Castagnoli is the seventeenth entrant in the 2007 Battle of Los Angeles. After a first round loss in 2006's tournament, Claudio admitted he was unprepared for the quickness of Jack Evans last year. But there is a reason why he is the "Most Money Making Man In Professional Wrestling," and he has used the time since tournament to train extensively, in preparation for virtually any opponent. Will "Double C's" commitment to excellence be enough for him to bring the trophy home to Switzerland this September? 18 - SHINGO - After spending time in the United States on a learning excursion, SHINGO returned to Japan earlier this year and quickly took Dragon Gate by storm. Already bored with the level of competition in Japan, SHINGO is intent on returning to America to prove that he is no longer a student, but a master of professional wrestling. Though the reputation of an international top talent is tough to earn, as the eighteenth competitor in the 2007 Battle of Los Angeles, SHINGO definitely will have the opportunity. 19 - "Mr. Wrestling" Kevin Steen - A veteran of both previous Battle of Los Angeles tournaments, former PWG World Champion "Mr. Wrestling" Kevin Steen has been unable to advance past the second round on each occasion. But to hear him tell it, 2007 is Kevin Steen's year, and the 2007 Battle of Los Angeles is his for the taking. Though sheer force of will can only get you so far, "Mr. Wrestling" is hoping that combined with his three A's (Ability, Agility, and Awesomeness), force of will is going to be enough to propel him into the finals, and beyond. 20 - "American Dragon" Bryan Danielson - Making it to the semi-finals in 2005, "American Dragon" Bryan Danielson was sidelined by an injury which prevented him from competing in the Battle of Los Angeles tournament in 2006. However, the past matters little to Danielson, as he is more prepared than ever to prove he deserves the title of "World's Greatest" by winning the 2007 Battle of Los Angeles. Though there will be twenty-three others in the tournament, Danielson is nonplussed, seeing them as merely stepping stones on his path to glory. But what happens if he is matched up with someone like CIMA, who little over a month ago took Danielson to a thirty minute time limit draw? He may not care about the other wrestlers, but the clock may prove to be Bryan Danielson's worst enemy in the tournament. 21 - Super Dragon - Plagued by injuries for the last year, Super Dragon was to make his triumphant return to Pro Wrestling Guerrilla at DDT4, where along with Davey Richards, he expected to regain the PWG World Tag Team titles. However, only Super Dragon and his doctor knew the extent of his injuries, and at DDT4, Super Dragon not only was unable to reclaim the titles, but re-injured his ankle in the process. Now with months of recuperation ahead of him, Super Dragon has the 2007 Battle of Los Angeles to motivate him on his road to recovery. Motivation not just for the prestige of winning the annual tournament, but to also repair his damaged reputation as the most dominant force in PWG. 22 - Rocky "Azucar" Romero - One of the few men in the 2007 Battle of Los Angeles to compete in both previous tournaments, Rocky Romero has used the past to shape his future as a professional wrestler. Already showing willingness to learn from his mistakes, Romero avenged his first round loss in 2006 by defeating Roderick Strong in singles competition earlier this year. Now heading into the 2007 tournament, Rocky Romero is more focused than ever on making up for past mistakes, and he is ready to make anyone he faces find out first hand. 23 - Nigel McGuinness - The twenty-third entrant in the 2007 Battle of Los Angeles, and the final man making his PWG debut during the tournament, Nigel McGuinness seems to be tailor made for winning this tournament. McGuinness was crowned the King of Europe earlier this year, in a tournament where he beat out seven other 2007 Battle of Los Angeles competitors, including fellow Englishman Doug Williams in the final round. Combine that with his brutal encounters with Bryan Danielson, and experience wrestling at least one third of the other 2007 Battle of Los Angeles competitors, Nigel McGuinness seems like an early favorite without ever having set foot in a PWG ring. However, the twenty-three other competitors direct your attention to the words of Flava Flav, from a hit single by Public Enemy in 1988. 24 - CIMA - The final competitor to be announced for the 2007 Battle of Los Angeles shocked fans and wrestlers alike when in his PWG debut he made it all the way to the final round of the 2006 Battle of Los Angeles before being defeated by Davey Richards. Looking to repeat his success this year, CIMA has preparing by bringing some fellow 2007 Battle of Los Angeles competitors to Japan in order to scout them and have first hand experience wrestling them prior to this year's tournament. However, the move may backfire on the ace of Dragon Gate, because for as good as CIMA's research may be, El Generico, PAC, Jack Evans, or Matt Sydal's may be better.
