OAO WWE is ECW Thread - 3/25/08
LivingLegendGaryColeman replied to David Blazenwing's topic in The WWE Folder
Just got done watching the show. I enjoyed the build for the Battle Royal all show, it's disappointing that they made it sound like the Battle Royal will be pre-show now, with only the actual title match on the show. -
Just went to Walmart.com to look and see if they had that great price on the Wrestlemania sets seeing I had to use the website to get the first TNA box set that was exclusive to WalMart back in the day. They didn' have the boxsets but they did have the cover art for Wrestlemania 24 already. Looks pretty cool, reminds me of the Wrestlemania 21 cover art somewhat. It says it will be a 3-disc set. Also looks like they will do the deal where they package it with an old DVD again this year. This year it looks like when it first comes out you can get the Mr. McMahon DVD for free with it.

Let's Talk About... The 1993 Survivor Series
LivingLegendGaryColeman posted a topic in General Wrestling
I saw in the Let's Talk About... The Natural Born Thrillers thread that it was on the table for someone to post a new one and after seeing no one do it for a little while, I decided to throw this one in. Survivor Series 1993 I am not sure how popular this PPV is, probably not very much, but I've always had a soft spot for this show. I had watched wrestling a lot back then, but this was the time period I really became a die hard fan. I remember all the build up and this was one of the first PPVs I remember renting on VHS that was something I knew all the backstory to. This event was interesting to me back then because the originally announced teams of Luger/Tatanka/Steiners vs. Yokozuna/Borga/Quebeccers got changed in the weeks leading up due to injury angles with Undertaker replacing Tatanka and Crush filling in for Pierre. For me, only watching WWF at the time, it was pretty intense to see guys being taken out in the build to this, especially considering it was the end of Tatanka impressive streak. He really was never the same after the loss to Borga. This show will never really be known for its workrate. Along with the switches in the main event, a lot of the matches were different than originally advertised. Doink was recruiting three other Doinks to fight Bam Bam Bigelow's team and instead we ended up not gettng the regular Doink in that match at all, but the Bushwackers and Men on a Mission dressed in Doink masks with facepaint. Shawn Michaels stepped in for Lawler (which apparently was due to a trial that Lawler was in court for at the time) and I always remember Shawn's promo assigning nicknames to the Hart Brothers. While Bruce and Keith wouldn't be featured in WWF matches regularly, this was the start of Owen Hart's rise to fame, a storyline which I believe was revealed in Bret's book was originally intended for Bruce. This was also the last PPV for Bobby Heenan until his return for the Gimmick Battle Royal at Wrestlemania X-7 in 2001. So, I don't know if this topic is as popular as some of the others, but I figured this time period hasn't been discussed too much, so I would give it a try. -
NCAA BBall Tournament, 1st and 2nd Rounds
LivingLegendGaryColeman replied to EVIL~! alkeiper's topic in Sports
I haven't followed much college basketball this year and with the Georgetown loss today my bracket has been set far back. I put them farther than they should have gone. They are the only team in my Elite 8 that isn't alive still, but I foolishly had them going further. -
Konnan files lawsuit against TNA
LivingLegendGaryColeman replied to Hunter's Torn Quad's topic in TNA Wrestling
I think so. Cage's first PPV was beating Brown for the #1 contendership, then teamed with Sting against Brown and JJ. As for Monty, I would think if he returned to wrestling, he'd go back to WWE before TNA. Along with the money aspect, I seem to remember reading that he left on good terms and would be welcomed back at any time if he decided to return. -
Most Entertaining Bad Matches
LivingLegendGaryColeman replied to Brocklock's topic in General Wrestling
I remember enjoying the Test/Steiner match at Bad Blood 03 if nothing other than Steiner doing an unintentional Superman off the apron, but I haven't seen it in a while. -
Box Office report 3/21-3/28
LivingLegendGaryColeman replied to Gary Floyd's topic in Television & Film
I've seen like one and a half Tyler Perry movies and I think the only recurring character is Madea (the Grandma). She is the voice of reason for this large family, so she ties into all the stories. The movies aren't bad from what I've seen, they just fluctuate a lot. Like one minute, it is very serious, soap opera like and then the next minute Madea is chasing people around with blunt objects going crazy. -
I checked the three closest Wal Marts today and nothing yet. I am guessing they will put up a Wrestlemania display Tuesday that will feature that stuff because they have signs advertsing that Superstars of Wrestlemania. My guess is that store was nice enough to put it up early. Great find, I'd love to get those Wrestlemania sets for that price.

Hirohito was supposed to be a character on RAW and they even had a few vignettes on RAW. They were more like teaser videos, as they just were like Japanese War clips. I wanted to verify information, and here were some of the news tidbits I found from LordsofPain and Rajah which I am remembering hearin back then: So this was all like May 2004 and by beginning of June he debuted on Smackdown under his real name.

I waited til I found that Best of RAW DVD at WalMart too for the exclusive 4th disc (which was just supposed to contain the first RAW in its entirety), and mine didn't have it. Unfortunately, there is no way of knowing until you open it. Reports I have heard on it is it is just inside the case to disc one and the package isn't specially marked.

Whats the first pay per view you saw live?
LivingLegendGaryColeman replied to Frankie Williams's topic in General Wrestling
First PPV I ordered and watched live was Wrestlemania X. First PPV I saw in person/attended was Summerslam 2003. -
Yeah, it's really tough with this team. I mean, whether they are playing bad teams or not, 21 wins straight in a professional league is impressive. I agree with you too. If it was one of those teams you mentioned above, they'd be giving them the same treatment the Patriots got in the NFL all season. It would be a historic team. But looking at the roster and considering one of their two stars has been out for almost half of the streak now, too many people point toward "dumb luck". As much as you have to respect the accomplishment though, if you look at the Western Conference teams on paper, it's hard to put Houston over a lot of the Western Conference teams in a 7 game series. I mean, especially with Yao out, I have a hard time seeing them getting by several other teams in a series. I'd like to see them do well, as whenever the teams I follow are knocked out, I like seeing someone that hasn't won before or in a while up there, but I just see this team cooling down and at best going to the second round.

When did they all of a sudden drop her ditzy act? It seemed to have come out of nowhere. I guess when she shed her clothes, she upped her IQ. I don't know why but I am just getting a Christy Hemme vibe from her now, I don't know why, but it doesn't work for her. I'm just watching on my TiVo now and just got to Miz/Morrison. I don't like they are gonna run with 7 in Money in the Bank. I mean, I guess it isn't that big of a deal, I just think even numbers work better for that match, so everyone can kinda be paired off.

I don't remember ever getting to see the actual gimmick itself, but I remember one time when messing around on eBay looking for like WCW I came across an official WCW 8 x 10 of that gimmick that someone had gotten Jindrak's autograph on.
-
I don't know how legit it was or as realistic as when they were going to use Hirohito until the "controversy", but I seem to remember the Jindrak rumor too because I remember at the time it seemed hard to swallow that they were thinking of having Benoit/Hirohito, who had yet to be seen, and Guerrero/Jindrak as main events for the second biggest PPV of the year. Back at the time it was rumored was when Jindrak was drafted from RAW (as a tag team wrestler) to Smackdown and started his "Reflection of Perfection"/Lex Luger gimmick with Teddy Long as his manager. I know they always had plans for Jindrak that they seemed to drop because I remember them rumoring he was going to be in Evolution at one point, then Orton's Evolution like group. After they gave up on the RoP gimmick, he wound up in Angle's group with Luther Reigns.

WWE General Discussion - March 2008
LivingLegendGaryColeman replied to Scroby's topic in The WWE Folder
The stuff I've heard about MVP in the past makes me think that he is more like Carlito and Orton who play up their gimmick in public moreso than being a legit dick. I may be wrong on that, but that is just how it seems to me. As far as the Asian girl, was it Lena Yada? She was I think 3rd in this year's Diva Search and a new backstage interviewer. -
I think my favorite part of the Suns game was when Duncan when to help up Shaq and he blew him off and waited for his team. Suns need some attitude on the court like that.

Bad ideas for a wrestling fed
LivingLegendGaryColeman replied to Twisted Intestine's topic in General Wrestling
I want a promotion that just rips off other promotions. I would call it Total Nonstop World Extreme Championship Wrestling Action. A name like TNWECWA rolls right off the tounge. But the name isn't the only thing they combine, they also combine gimmicks on matches, like the Six Sides of Judy Bagwell on a Pole Deathmatch. -
Well the article from the Houston Chronicle said the Rockets may even want to re-sign him at the beginning of next year, they just need someone with more size with the run they are making now. I think he will land somewhere. Everything basically says he is a good kid and does what he is asked, he just doesn't have that fire that has let him progress.
-
I just saw it hidden in a little blurb, but the Rockets cut Gerald Green last night in favor of signing Mike Harris.
-
Yeah, I remember people talking about that in the old thread when the set first came out. I don't have my copy nearby, but I remember the insert having a few typos as I think it was the same set that calls Halloween Havoc by the name of Halloween House on the insert.

For those who haven't picked up the newest, 3 disc Rey, Cena or HBK sets and still want them you may in for a bargin. Some people the DVD boards I read occasionally are reporting that the Ultimate Fan Packs Best Buy put them in for the holidays (which was the DVD set with a t-shirt and other assorted merchandise for the wrestler who was featured on the DVD) are on clearance in the stores for $12.99. So a lot cheaper than they are selling just the DVD for and you get a bunch of extra stuff. I haven't checked this out yet myself, but if someone is interested, may be worth taking a look.

I'm sure I will think of more, but the first one that popped to my mind was Tales from the Dallas Mavericks by Jaime Aaron. http://www.amazon.com/Tales-Dallas-Maveric...9150&sr=8-1 I was on a basketball book kick a couple years back and I always like those books that talk about stuff that happened behind closed doors (nixed trades, internal conflicts). My friend reccommended this one to me and I really liked it. This is a quick read, a little over 200 pages, it ends right before the start of the 2003-04 season.
-
Yeah, I thought that was weird. The Blu-Ray had no special thing, but if you got the Double Disc one at Best Buy, which has the same content as the Blu-Ray, you got it. It was in a special package, when I went on Wednesday night, there were only a couple left, but it didn't justify getting it for me like sometimes those special throw-in promotions do.
-
For those who have the New Frontier DVD, would you suggest the single disc or double disc on that one? That was my hold up. I was gonna buy the double disc at Best Buy with the free Green Lantern figure, but the Green Lantern figure ended up being like 3 inches and not as impressive as I was expecting (like old school Happy Meal quality). So I passed for then. Just can't determine if it is worth the extra 7 bucks for the second disc or not.
