OAO 11/05 Raw Thread...... no longer thinking about "Y2J"
LivingLegendGaryColeman replied to Boxer's topic in The WWE Folder
No, Vince obviously has some sort of Eeeeeeeeeeevil Plan to destroy and humiliate DX. Thus we will be treated to some awful unstoppable DX gimmick. I mean, HBK himself took at both Edge and Orton in a handicap match earlier in the year, and HHH has squashed everyone he's faced since returning. Santino should not get a win over Austin, as that would change his comic character into something it is not meant to be. Santino should get to at least escape the stunner in some dastardly manner (see above suggestion regarding the rochambeau) only to be forced into the ring with Stone Cold at the next PPV to receive his richly deserved stunner and subsequent beer-dousing. Santino's character is a comedic heel; he can't get the duke over the company's original badass face and still remain a comedy act. And let's face it, that's all Santino has is that glorious mic work. We don't want to have to watch any painful attempts at matches by him, do we? I completely agree with this logic. The only problem is, WWE's focus has been all on ratings as opposed to building to a PPV payoff. Since they view the ratings with more priority than anything else, Santino's fate is sealed. MY issue is, with Santino getting all of his cheap comedic heel heat, I can't believe they are wasting it on Austin. Santino is the type of guy (as mentioned above) that needs to be booked as the weasel, running away at the right times, only to have a face finally catch up to him and 'shut him up'. I know the Condemned DVD is out, and Bonnie "I Was A Teenaged" Hammer wants the ratings, but Santino is the type of guy that can actually be used to help build someone (i.e. as an enhancement talent). (And also: they have a built in, classic program with Maria as the "valet needed to be saved from the heel" that Santino's mic skills alone could make a golden angle) Of course, with Cody Rhodes jobbed out to Spark Plug, and DH Smith in love with his dad's mistress, there isn't really a face left that can be enhanced (minus HHH of course). Can you elaborate on this? I think it is in reference to Smith being suspended for failing the drug test, seeing as it was similar drugs that killed his father. -
FOX Sunday Night - 2007/2008 Season

Yeah, I did laugh more at the 100 Episode special clip show they did tonight than the regular show. I enjoyed the interviews with the people who have never seen the show. "Is that David Hyde Pierce?" "Yes" "Oh, I'm so disappointed in him..." -
Box Office Report 11/2-11/4
LivingLegendGaryColeman replied to Gary Floyd's topic in Television & Film
I am glad it worked out this way. Bee Movie was one I kinda wanted to see when I first heard about it, but now it has been overmarketed to the point where I could care less. -
I'm surprised there is no lawsuit stemming from this. Then again, I guess someone would have to know about it, but I say no way McMahon lets his name get used in something like this. Here is the IMDb page:http://imdb.com/title/tt0475218/ I was curious as to why there were two Andres listed and according this the giant from Big Fish and the Devil's Rejects was supposed to play Andre until he died in 2005 so he was replaced by the guy in the trailer.

The Ultimate Comic Villain
LivingLegendGaryColeman replied to LivingLegendGaryColeman's topic in Literature
My fault, I've been extra busy. I was gonna start it and then ran into the problems with the weird numbers and then have gotten caught up in a lot of other stuff since I asked what people wanted to do about it. I will try to trim the fat and get this running in the next couple days. -
Yeah, I'm in the minority. I was serious. I think he could have a role greater than a bench player, but even if he came to be a bench player, I'd want him back. I don't think he ever will because Ainge treated him so poorly and from what I've read recently it sounds like Minnesota wants to make him the primary option for at least this season, but I'd love to have 'Toine back.
-
Are you sure about that? Cause I was pretty sure that the team was holding a vote over giving Nomar a ring because he was traded that season. Unless it is everyone on the roster and then exceptions, which in this case, I would say Wakefield would get one. I wouldn't agree with not giving rings to guys who got left off the playoff roster though because Tavarez and Wakefield missed respective rounds and were more important to the team this year the Gagne.

They could buy out Walker and he could go back to the Celtics again. It's too bad they had to trade Ricky and Blount to get him though, I wanted to call them the "Island of Misfit Celtics."

Not So Detailed Smackdown Spoilers for 10/26/07
LivingLegendGaryColeman replied to ChrisMWaters's topic in The WWE Folder
The ECW vote is the one I really am most interested in. It is three heels that no one would vote for. Big Daddy V is pushed as the biggest threat, so they don't want to put someone they like in Punk against that. Morrison has pushed Punk to the limit time and after time and most of the time people seem pretty indifferent towards him. I think Miz may take the vote. If he has the female fans the WWE thinks he has, they will be voting for him, along with that he seems like the easiest path to victory for the fan favorite. I don't even like Miz but I've been voting for him just for a fresh match-up. I could care less about the special ref for World Title, I actually haven't even voted for that one. Undertaker has fought every one of those guys but the most recent feud he has had with any of them was still like 3 years ago. I don't recall any interaction ever between Austin and Batista. The only connection I've ever had between Foley and Batista was that they were in the tag match against each other at Wrestlemania 20, but I don't really remember any personal interaction between the two before or after. If Piper hadn't pissed people off at the GI Joe convention, he would've made even less sense to be a choice. JBL has been connected to both, but do the fans really want to see him screw up what the WWE is billing as an "Epic Re-Match"? -
That is absolutely hilarious. Is this the same promotion that has the demon little girl? Because if so they need an American TV deal now.

Cyber-Sunday Main Events
LivingLegendGaryColeman replied to Kurt Angle Mark's topic in The WWE Folder
I figured this was the area to put the Cyber Sunday news. WWE added a Divas Halloween Costume Contest to Cyber Sunday: The following Divas from Raw, SmackDown and ECW are expected to participate in this year's Halloween Contest: Candice, Maria, Mickie James, Melina, Jillian, Lilian Garcia, Victoria, Torrie Wilson, Michelle McCool, Kelly Kelly and Layla The contest is a time filler, but still, Kelly Kelly and Layla, but no Brooke?! That makes me angry. Brooke has a magnificent heiny and I want to make friends with it. -
I thought I posted in this when it came out, I guess I was saying stuff in the Flight of the Conchords thread. I drove across town to see it and recruited people who never heard of it. I really like it, but I haven't seen anything on a DVD release yet.

WWE General Discussion - October 2007
LivingLegendGaryColeman replied to DrVenkman PhD's topic in The WWE Folder
I was watching some old PPVs today and it hit me that no one has mentioned a "Draft curse" yet. I mean, look at this year's draft: The Great Khali The Boogeyman King Booker Chris Benoit Torrie Wilson Chris Masters Bobby Lashley Ric Flair Snitsky Mr. Kennedy The only person that really benefited from the move was Khali. Boogeyman got a decent push but is out for a while to sell the Big Daddy V angle, Wilson is used sparingly, probably less than she was used on RAW, Booker and Benoit are gone, Flair/Masters/Snitsky/Kennedy/Lashley were all gone due to injuries and suspensions. Throw in the Supplemental portion from this year, it's a little more of a mixed bag, but quite a few names are gone too: Paul London and Brian Kendrick Kenny Dykstra Viscera The Sandman Hardcore Holly The Miz Daivari The Major Brothers William Regal Victoria Jillian Hall Eugene Johnny Nitro Viscera, Miz and Nitro benefitted, despite the fact Nitro also goes on the inactive list for a while, but this could mainly because they make up about 1/4 of the roster that they are on. Holly is hard to say because he didn't even go where he was drafted and is getting a solid midcard push, but was considered a headliner in ECW. Regal is getting an increased role now, although in a non-competitive role. Majors, Victoria, Jillian and Kenny are arguably in the same spots. London/Kendrick had a slight demotion. Eugene, Sandman and Daivari are all gone. The last draft, 2005, only 2 people drafted to each side even remain with the company. Smackdown was depleated rather quickly after the draft. Granted that was two years ago, but still. RAW: John Cena Kurt Angle - switched brands under a year later Carlito Big Show - left RAW brand roughly a year later Rob Van Dam - injured for the first 6 months after draft, switched brands a few months after returning Smackdown: Chris Benoit - stayed there longest Randy Orton - switched brands roughly a year later Muhammad Hassan w/ Daivari - left company weeks after draft, Daivari went back to RAW shortly after Christian - left company four months after Batista - went down to injury six months into run That's out of the more meaningful drafts, as the first one was the inital split and the second one was mostly undercard guys with the exception of Shelton, Edge and the trades involving Booker and a few others. I'm probably over thinking it, but just something I'm surprised has never really been said, at least that I've heard. -
WWE General Discussion - October 2007
LivingLegendGaryColeman replied to DrVenkman PhD's topic in The WWE Folder
The only thing ECW deserves credit for is getting the ball rolling for wrestling to move away from the cartoony bullshit that dominated it at the time. The When Worlds Collide PPV had more influence over cruisers being used in North American wrestling promotions than their use in ECW did. Eddy, Dean, Chris and the rest of them were only there for a cup of coffee before heading off into WCW. And you're over-crediting ECW for Austin's success. A comment from Austin's ex-wife was the inspiration for his eventual nickname, the promo at KOTR coined him a marketable catchphrase and his feud with Bret Hart made him. ECW, at most, provided a template for his attitude. An attitude that was the main part of the gimmick. He didn't need Stone Cold in front of his name if the attitude was the same. The catchphrase stemmed from the attitude, so ECW's inspiration allowed Austin to become what he did. You could have had Stone Cold Dustin Runnels, with the exact same push and plug everything in with a different attitude and it fails. Actually, some of the names that the WWE had come up with before Stone Cold was selected were down right horrible. How dare you disrespect Chilly McFreeze! -
I enjoyed the show tonight, the main things that stuck out as negative to me was: Everytime a non-wrestling fan walked through the room happened to be the segments where Kurt Angle was yelling about porn. It was a little odd in the first place, then it kept recurring. I've never had a problem with Junior Fatu, but I have yet to see him in TNA and I really disliked his promo. I was shocked at how many things were screwed up for a taped promo for a taped show. He didn't know the name of of the tournament he is competing in for a title shot and called the tournament a jabroni. Then he called his opponent the name of a deceased legend, along with I got this vibe he was trying to be like the Rock at some points. I did enjoy most of the show though. Would've loved to see MCMG go longer, but this angle with Team 3-D is the first angle with 3-D I've been looking forward to in a long time.

Comments that which don't warrant a thread
LivingLegendGaryColeman replied to a topic in Television & Film
I caught it last year. There are a couple things, but it is harder to go back and add the 3-D to a pre-existing movie. I mean, there are a few cool moments, but nothing that really stuck out to me still. If you want to see it, it's kinda cool to wait til the end of the run. I know last year it had been packed early on but I didn't get a chance to go in the beginning. I took this girl to see it the last week it was out last year, around mid-November and we were the only two people there, which meant it was alright to make appropriate loud/goofy reactions to the 3-D action. I mean, it's kinda like if you saw any of the other Disney 3-D, but a little less. The showing I saw of Chicken Little ended up being the 3-D one and they sprinkled some gags, but not a ton cause it wasn't meant to be a 3-D movie. Now, Disney knew they'd throw 3-D out there, I don't think they ever planned 3-D for Nightmare. It is fun to check out though cause I never saw it on the big screen before. -

Ten years is a long time. www.juliehart.ca/personal.html I love how in the little snippets about the family it talks about one daughter being a paralegal and the kids in high school and then for Dallas it says that he enjoys internet poker and is on a beer league hockey team with a name that had to be censored. I can't tell if her comment that he has come a long way from writing WWE magazines articles as a child is supposed to be a comment on his current high ambitions. -

The one that seemed most intriguing is if you get the two disc Special Edition at Target, the case is a Transformer. -
I was looking up to see when I could get Hart's book here in the states and came across a book about the Benoit situation is already coming out in Novermber. Did anyone know this? http://www.amazon.com/Benoit-Wrestling-Hor...0027716-2821653

WWE General Discussion - October 2007
LivingLegendGaryColeman replied to DrVenkman PhD's topic in The WWE Folder
I didn't take it that Eddie was self-loathing. It sounded like he appreciated what Dave was saying, but he felt from a business standpoint, he thought it was better for Randy to get the belt. I mean, this was one of the time's Orton was pushed seriously, going toe to toe with the Undertaker every PPV and shortly after, he would take the win for Team Smackdown. Orton was having a big push at the time and Eddie seemingly felt it was better to go that way as opposed to given him a token, almost transitional run. -
Cyber-Sunday Main Events
LivingLegendGaryColeman replied to Kurt Angle Mark's topic in The WWE Folder
There really hasn't been a set pattern for the IC champ, but voting the opponent comes closest. 2004 it was Jericho would fight anyone on the RAW roster voted by the fans not involved in the other matches. 2005 Flair had the title and the vote was for the stip in his match against HHH. 2006 was Jeff Hardy defending against limited choices of Carlito, Shelton and Nitro. -
Yeah, I hope it's a bit more in depth than RAW X. The Wednesday release is because the Tuesday the 25th is Christmas day.

Just to let people know who do happen to get most of the PPVs on DVD, fye.com is doing a pretty good sale on some of them. They have their $7 mail-in-rebate featured for the new Rey Mysterio set and Unforgiven which come out next week and also for No Mercy. Rey is listed at $23.99, but then you can submit for a $7 rebate, making it pretty cheap for that set, and Unforgiven is listed at $16.99 and No Mercy at $15.99, after rebate making them $9.99 and $8.99 apiece.

This is the first I've heard about this. Maybe LivingLegend could shed some light on this. Is the BB edition 2 discs or 3 discs? I think the 3 Disc is a myth. I went to FYE today and found the tin and all it says is that it is an FYE exclusive tin. It does not say anything about extra content. I haven't opened it up yet because I am unsure if I want to keep it if the only thing special about it is the tin. Has anyone else picked it up/know yet? I'm having a hard time finding the 2-disc Blockbuster version in the Florida area, most stores don't have it, not even as a rental. LivingLegend, any insight you could give? I was thinking about ordering it from Blockbuster's website but they list it there as 1 disc only. Do you know if I order it they'll send their 2-disc version or the regular version? I'd appreciate any info you could get, LLGC. That's the problem I've been having myself. Blockbuster doesn't allow special orders anymore and for some reason, I guess maybe sales not doing too well, they have not been receiving more new sale copies. I know from Rumble through Judgment Day, I'd buy the copy from my store and then they'd send a few more which sat on the shelf. We had been getting like 5 rentals copies and a couple sale copies at my store until Backlash, for Backlash and Judgment Day it was 2 rental and 1 sale. One Night Stand and Vengeance it was 1 copy for rental and no sale copies. For Bash we got 2 for rent, none for sale, Summerslam three rent and none for sale and Unforgiven came in today for next week, we got 2 rent and none for sale. It all depends on the marketing of the store on how many copies are received. I know the store considered a more urban store down the street from mine got a few copies more on some of the titles for rental. The best bet I can say at this point is if you find it at a store for rental, wait for the pre-viewed or just rent it and keep it. I think the price to keep it after you rent it is like $20. Sorry, this probably wasn't much help. I wouldn't order it from the BBV website in hopes of getting the 2 disc, cause it won't happen. When ONS didn't show up for sale and I couldn't track it around me, I ordered it from the website, assuming they'd be selling the Blockbuster exclusive edition, as you can rent the bonus disc with the online program, and I got the single disc edition. I'm just thinking they are not offering their edition for sale, so best bet would be trying to attempt to get a Pre-Viewed, the only issue is finding when one actually does go used. Also, for the Unforgiven DVD at Blockbuster, the exclusive bonus features are: Hornswoggle/Vince Adoption Promo Teddy Long and Kristal's wedding That's been the problem, since the DVDs have been harder to get, the exclusives have been the more popular segments (WWE Idol as opposed to early one's like Lashley/Umaga contract signing).

Some of the last wrestling comedy to make me laugh pretty hard. Can't believe it's been over 5 years already.... http://youtube.com/watch?v=voLVMGfzzgo
