What players, if any, appeared on just one ballot for the MVP voting?
-
I thought it might be kind of interesting to look at who's #1 on the similarity score list of this year's top rookies, not that it means much. Hanley Ramirez - Jimmy Rollins (#2 Derek Jeter) Francisco Liriano - Al Downing (#6 Whitey Ford) Justin Verlander - Clark Griffith Ryan Zimmerman - Ken Keltner (#2 Ron Santo) Jontahan Papelbon - Dave Smith (#8 Jeff Reardon) Dan Uggla - Charlie Irwin (#5 Chase Utley) Jered Weaver - John Fulgham (#5 Luis Tiant) Verlander and Uggla are OLD SCHOOL~!

I had to change the tiebreak #2 question as Mario Manningham is reportedly out with a knee injury. I've received 4 pm'd picks so I'll let those posters know to change their answers.

Well it was Schott who killed the season ticket base. I actually didn't mind the tarp idea for the regular season but it backfired because after putting the tarps they started talking about moving to Fremont (20 minutes from Oakland) and that a pissed off a lot of people so thus the demand for season tickets didn't go up as much as they hoped. Again my theory is that they are doing it for the playoffs to force people to put down deposits for 2007 season tickets out of fear of being shut out for the World Series. Really there is no other logical explanation to not open the upper deck. If they do advance scalping is going to be out of control.

Tigers will stick with their rotation for the ALDS and start Nate Robertson in Game 1. A's will also stick with their rotation even though Rich Harden didn't pitch in the ALDS. I'm still thinking they still aren't sure about his elbow and he looked pretty bad in the last game of the season after two promising starts. I might as well mention that by reasons of insanity or more likely to force people into putting down deposits for 2007 season tickets, the A's are not taking off the tarps on the upper deck even if they make it to the World Series. They aren't even putting up World Series tickets for general sale but holding a lottery for the tickets. I can understand not selling the seats on top of Mount Davis as those seats are completely worthless for baseball (trust me I've sat up there once and you can see San Francisco better than the field) but not removing them from the upper deck is nuts.

I decided it'd be best to start a new thread for posting the conference alignments and schedules, plus any other contest discussion before the season starts (the sign up thread will be unpinned and closed). First thing I'll wait off for now before settling on the bowls as I'm still waiting on a few people for their bowl names. Really that's something I don't need to have set until right before the season starts. I plan on having the Week 1 thread posted on Thursday, August 24th one week before the college football season kicks off to give everyone plenty of time to get their picks in. Now here are the new conference alingments. Southeast Seven Conference Alabama (AlwaysPissedOff) Auburn (Agent of Oblivion) Florida (Urban Warfare) Florida International (Vitamin X) Kentucky (Danville Wrestling) LSU (teke184) South Carolina (Cuban Linx) Tennessee (Art Sandusky) First the name is a take off of the Big Ten as there are 11 teams in that conference of course. With seven SEC teams I thought it was natural to call it the Southeast Seven even though there are eight teams in the conference. Ain't I clever? I originally wanted FIU with the ACC teams because they play Maryland and Miami in real life but couldn't make it work so they get slotted here. Western Atlantic Conference Boise State (bravesfan) Florida State (Kingofthe909) Georgia Tech (iggymcfly) Hawaii (Will Scarlet) Maryland (MarvnisaLunatic) Miami (Spaceman Spiff) San Jose State (Agent Bond34) Virginia (Edwin MacPhisto) Obviously this a combined conference of the ACC and WAC. Now there are three Big East teams in the contest but I split them from the ACC this year mainly to balance the conference a little better. Big MAC Conference Buffalo (Carnival) Kent State (JHawk) Miami of Ohio (Hawk 34) Michigan (Jimbo) Minnestoa (Vern Gagne) Ohio State (Gert T) Penn State (therealworldschampion) Temple (Ortonsault) One of two conferences that's name didn't change, this conference came together perfectly. We have four Big Ten teams and three MAC teams, with a future MAC team in Temple that has Miami, Kent State, Minnesota, and Penn State on it's schedule in real life. Pac-8 Conference Arizona State (Spicy McHaggis) Notre Dame (Lando Griffin) Oregon (nogoodnick) Oregon State (Princess Leena) San Diego State (The Last Samurai) Stanford (Bored) UCLA (phoenixrising) USC (Cartman) As I mentioned in the sign up thread Notre Dame has UCLA, Stanford, and USC on it's schedule in real life this year so they get slotted with the Pac-10 teams. San Diego State is the only Mountain West team and they were in this conference last year so decided not to move them. Big 8 Conference Connecticut (Silver Phoenix) Kansas State (Loaded Glove) Oklahoma (Vampiro69) Rutgers (the pinjockey) Syracuse (CanadianChris) Texas (UTBroward) Texas A&M (Secret Agent) UTEP (Angel Grace Blue) Since we have Big XII teams in this conference I went with the conference's old name. UTEP I could have slotted anywhere. Schedules I imagine will be posted tommorrow as I'm already done with about 75% of it.

No College Football Wrap Up today as I was out of town yesterday and missed the majority of the games, not that any of my "insights" ever require watching the games. I feel bad for Jason Kendall that his #1 comp thru age 32 is still Thurman Munson which obviously means Kendall is going to die soon.
-
My prediction for the storyline FOX slams into the ground for the series is the Billy Beane chair throwing incident after the A's drafted Jeremy Bonderman.
-
It ended up going seven "overtimes" with North Texas winning 25-22. Can't find a complete play-by-play of the game but both teams failed to score in the 1st, 3rd, 4th, and 6th "overtimes" with both kickers missing four field goals. Just brutal.

Remember how I've been preaching for patience? Things work themselves out in the end. After a few weeks nogoondnick had tumbled out of the polls despite being undefeated and it seemed unfair. But after a couple of big weeks he has grabbed the top spot. Also Leena has now been helped out by a boost in "stregth of schedule" and horrific weeks by Will Scarlet and Spaceman Spiff. Of course there is one bit of CONTROVERSY~ and that is the placement of Agent of Oblivion and the missing phoenixrising. Agent has now tied himself for the #1 spot in correct picks but has faced a brutal schedule which is why he's only 3-3. On the other hand phoenix is undefeated but has been very fortunate with the performance of his opponents as he's only 18th in correct picks. But like with noogoodnick, phoenixrising could find himself at the top in a couple of weeks. Bored Championship Series Rankings thru Week 6 1. Oregon - nogoodnick 4.3 2. Unless iggy shows up in the next half hour he's going to lose a point for the Oklahoma State/Kansas State game. Here's his picks. THURSDAY TCU at Utah SATURDAY Texas A&M at Kansas Navy at Air Force Rice at Tulane Texas vs. Oklahoma LSU at Florida Baylor at Colorado Oklahoma State at Kansas State Washington State at Oregon State Missouri at Texas Tech Central Michigan at Toledo Tennessee at Georgia Oregon at California Wyoming at New Mexico Tiebreak #1: How many total points will be scored in the Texas/Oklahoma game? 47 Tiebreak #2: How many passing yards will LSU's JaMarcus Russell have against Florida? 205 And if Loaded Glove doesn't show up I'll use Angel Grace Blue's picks as replacements. I may have to replace him permanently as he's been late almost every week and this would be his second use of replacements. Sorry I'm not going to get around to posting pick breakdowns but not like it's hard to look for your opponents picks and see where you differ.

THEY WON NINETY-FIVE GAMES Don't tell that to any announcers, they make it sound like the Tigers should feel blessed to be taking on the Yankees. Hey just wait until the ALCS if the Tigers win and we'll get constant yammerings about how the A's/Tigers is a battle of "Cinderella teams" and that they "weren't supposed to get here" like they are a couple of 16 seeds making it to the Final Four.

Yes Shelton was sent down after going into the tank after his amazing April, he slugged under .400 for the rest of the season. Of course it's funny they end up trading for a guy in Sean Casey who slugged just .388 while with the Tigers.
