Well there is still some reasonable doubt that the Orange Bowl will just hand a Notre Dame/Penn State match-up to the Fiesta Bowl. The only way I see Oregon getting in is if a scenerio plays out where the Fiesta Bowl does truly want Penn State more than Notre Dame AND it becomes evident that the Orange Bowl will take one of them instead of Ohio State. In that scenerio if the Fiesta takes Penn State first then the Orange Bowl ends up with Notre Dame obviously the Fiesta wouldn't do an all-Big Ten match-up. Not completely out of the realm of possibility although I'd think they'd rather settle for Notre Dame/Ohio State than Penn State/Oregon. There's also a theory floated that if the Fiesta would take Oregon because the stadium is home to a Pac-10 team in Arizona State and the entire conference benefits from a BCS payout. Not sure if I'd buy that though as the ASU has no influence on who gets picked to the Fiesta Bowl.

Due to the computer rankings Oregon is ranked higher than Notre Dame in the BCS. Coming into this week Notre Dame wasn't ranked in the Top 10 of any computer ranking. Again as I've mentioned before I'd be upset if Oregon had a healthy Kellen Clemens and was being left out. Without him they'd have a hard time beating Notre Dame or Penn State. I just wish the Pac-10 had a better bowl than the Holiday Bowl for it's second place team as Oregon does deserve better.

Bored's College Football Pick 'Em - Week 14

Hmm it hadn't been listed on the schedules I was looking at and then checking MTS' website I see they are playing next week. Someone already submitted picks so won't bother adding it. You all lucked out.
  10. Big thing about this week is notice there are two Friday games I picked. If you don't make your picks by deadline #1 you'll lose out on two games and not able to win by tiebreak. That could be crippling for anyone with Bored Bowl hopes. There's obviously now a limited number of games to choose from and only picked 12 this week with a couple of stinkers in there but hey at least I only subject you to one Sun Belt game. Again thanks to everyone without bowl hopes who sticks with the contest for the final week. Week 13 Deadlines Friday, November 25th, 3:00 PM EST/Noon PST -Lose Friday games and can't win by tiebreak Saturday, November 26th, Noon EST/9:00 AM PST -Replacement picks Week 13 Match-ups #3 Syracuse* (CanadianChris, 9-3) vs. #5 LSU* PM (teke184, 8-4) - GAME OF THE WEEK #7 Texas A&M* (Secret Agent, 7-5) vs. #8 Penn State* (therealworldschampion, 8-4) #1 Miami* (Spaceman Spiff, 8-4) vs. Virginia* (Edwin MacPhisto, 6-6) #2 Alabama* PM (AlwaysPissedOff, 10-2) vs. Oregon* (nogoodnick, 6-6) #4 Ohio State* (Gert T, 7-5) vs. Oklahoma* (the pinjockey*, 5-7) #6 Georgia Tech* (iggymcfly, 7-5) vs. Arizona State* (Spicy McHaggis, 6-6) #9 South Carolina* (Cuban Linx, 8-4) vs. Minnesota* (Vern Gagne, 5-7) #10 Florida* (Agent Bond34, 7-5) vs. Buffalo* (Angel Grace Blue*, 2-10) Hawaii* PM (Will Scarlet, 7-5) vs. San Diego State* PM (Porter, 5-7) Stanford* (Bored, 6-6) vs. Notre Dame (Lando Griffin, 5-7) Northwestern* (Kingofthe909, 7-5) vs. Florida International* (Vitamin X, 5-7) Maryland* (MarvinisaLunatic, 7-5) vs. Nebraska* (CarnivalizComing, 5-7) Illinois (Matt Young, 7-5) vs. Kent State* (JHawk, 4-8) USC* (Cartman, 5-7) vs. UCLA* (phoenixrising, 4-8) Tennessee* (Kotzenjunge, 5-7) vs. Auburn* PM (Agent of Oblivion, 6-6) Washington State* (bravesfan, 6-6) vs. Connecticut* (DragonLordKaiba, 6-6) Rutgers* (the pinjockey, 4-8) vs. Troy* (Angel Grace Blue, 1-11) Week 13 Games to make picks for FRIDAY Arizona at Arizona State Nebraska at Colorado SATURDAY Maryland at N.C. Here's what the bowls would probably look like if the higher ranked teams all win next week (Miami def. Syracuse, LSU def. Alabama, Penn State def. Northwestern, Hawaii def. Oregon). Bored's College Football Pick 'Em - Week 13

There is now exaclty 16 teams who are bowl eligible so officially the Ex-Lax Toilet Bowl is added as an 8th bowl. Oregon can still earn a trip to the Traditional Bowl if they beat Hawaii to win the Pac-8 title which make 17 teams bowl eligible and someone would get left out. I pretty much know who is going to get left out if this happens but to build some drama I won't say what team it would be. If you are not in a conference title game but are going to a bowl be sure to check next week to see where you are going. Also for those who's season is over again I will be holding a seperate contest for the bowls that is open to the whole forum although no money at stake in that one. Additional note about the bowls when it comes to selections I will try to avoid matching up teams who have already played each other so keep that in mind. #1 stays the same to no surprise and Spiff controls their own destiny, win the Big Atlantic title game they are going to Bored Bowl. Even a loss and they might sneak in but can't say that for certain. But #2 is where the drama is right now. A surprise shift as APO's less than stellar win hurts him and teke's good win pays off big. With CC in there it is a three team race for the #2 spot with all playing next week in the title games. Bored Championship Series Top 10 thru Week 13 1. Miami - Spaceman Spiff 2.3 2. All they to do was beat f'n UC Davis and they wouldn't have had to try to pull of a miracle win. I'm sure Oregon is going to want to lay a beating on them in the season opener next year after seeing their BCS chances slip away.

I thought to myself after the kick return that the only bad thing was that the defense would have to go back on the field again. They are completely gassed and it showed on that drive. Harris should have had the foresight to call a timeout during that drive to get the defense a breather. Going to take a miracle now for Stanford to pull this off without Trent Edwards in there.

I am thrilled they've managed to keep it competitive as I was really concerned this would a primetime humiliation for the Cardinal. The zone defense does seem to have Quinn confused but they'll need a couple more big breaks if they expect to pull off the upset. I just hope Walt Harris learned his lesson from the UCLA and doesn't go to the "play not to lose" conservative play calling.

I'm not a huge fan on conference championship games but they are a necessary evil for large conferences as you can't guarentee the two best teams will play each other. I agree with the idea that the divisions are pointless. You could you a division format for setting up the schedule but in the end it's counter productive to have the division format if one division is particularly bad in a given year.

The just said on CBS that the Outback Bowl will likely take South Carolina and the Independence Bowl will likely get Oklahoma. I can't figure out how either scenerio happens but what do I know. Big time choke job by UTEP. They had two chances to win the Conference USA West division but lost last week at home to UAB and then lose again this week to SMU. It will be Central Florida vs. Tulsa in the title game.

Sun Belt Update! Arkansas State beat North Texas 31-24. UL-Lafayette leads UL-Monroe 33-14 at the half. If that holds up Arkansas State goes to the New Orleans/Lafayette Bowl. Answer to the above, USC has essentially clinched the Pac-10 BCS bid. UCLA and Oregon didn't play each other so they wouldn't be able to use the standard three-way tie procedure and all would have identical records thus they'd just go by BCS ranking. USC is a pretty much a lock to be ranked higher than UCLA and Oregon regardless what happens next week. Edit: Scratch that, USC played 12 games this year (road game against Hawaii) so they end up with a better record than both. In any event my understanding is USC has already clinched the Pac-10 BCS bid.
