Well unless the NCAA changes it's rule where a conference must have at least 12 teams to hold a title game it's not going to happen. In reality starting next year the Pac-10 won't ever have to consider it as with the 12 game schedules starting fulltime the conference has decided to expand the conference schedule to nine games thus everyone will play everyone. They are the only conference I believe so far that has decided to do this. The Big Ten should strongly consider it. Nine games would still mean there would be one team every year a team doesn't play but at least would reduce the chances the two best teams in conference don't play each other, like in 2002 when Ohio State and Iowa didn't play.

With Stanford's embarassing home loss to UC Irvine last weekend, Arizona losing to Michigan State today (not a bad loss but a game they should win if they are a Top 10 team), and now UCLA getting pummeled by Memphis it is apparant that the Pac-10 is going to be all kinds of awful this year. They desperately need to get a t.v. deal with ESPN again as being on FSN in recent years I believe is killing their recruiting. I know why they left ESPN back in the mid-90s because they would put them a late time slot after SportsCenter but at least you'd get ESPN hype for the conference. ESPN is very much into over hyping what's on their channel (and ABC) and giving other sports coverage a backseat and Pac-10 basketball doesn't get much attention on the channel when they get into conference play. Also FSN games are going to get often pre-empted by local sports coverage. The channel also doesn't have the type of lead in or the ability to hype their games like ESPN does.

Without him I think Notre Dame and Ohio State are simply better teams.

Follow up bowl news: -Fresno State has accepted the invite to the Liberty Bowl. -Utah has accepted the invite to the Emerald Bowl. -Music City Bowl announced they'll take an ACC team to fill the SEC spot, probably Virginia. -New Mexico accepted a conditional invite to the Forth Worth Bowl, which would be if the Big XII can not fill the spot. Kansas needs to beat Iowa State to fill it.
