This Week in College Football 11/21 - 11/26

TCU has accepted an invite to the Houston Bowl which had an open bid with the SEC unable to fill it. Mountain West allows this as they have enough bowl eligible teams fill their three spots and TCU gets a bigger payout by going to Houston rather than the Las Vegas Bowl. And due to this BYU has now accepted an invite to the Las Vegas Bowl. Now Colorado State is going to the Poinsetta Bowl to meet Navy. The Mountain West's other bid is the Emerald Bowl which I assume will go to Utah.

There will be a few open bids so it's not impossible although I haven't seen anyone predict they'll go to one. One thing would help is Arizona State losing Arizona has that would open up another spot as ASU needs to win to become bowl eligible. Of course there are several other bowl eligible non-BCS conference schools who would be hoping for that as well.

Other bowl news, the Liberty Bowl is now trying to get Fresno State instead of Virginia. The WAC is going to have no problem letting them go as Nevada can take the freed up spot for them by going to the Hawaii Bowl and then Boise State can stay home for their bowl, MPC Computers Bowl. Fresno would get a better in opponent who is likely to be Clemson in the MPC but they get a bigger payout by going to the Liberty.

Hey look first bowl invite has gone out: Navy is going to the Poinsetta Bowl, played in San Diego, which is replacing the Silicon Valley Bowl. I know you're all excited.
  6. For those of us on the West Coast we will not get Ohio State/Michigan and instead we'll get Cal/Stanford. That will probably piss off quite a few people but I'm one happy mother fucker as Keith Jackson is calling The Big Game. There isn't any major changes that I know of, just the ACC changing it's #2 bid to the Peach Bowl instead of the Gator Bowl. Other changes are for minor bowls like the Houston, Fort Worth, and Insight Bowls but I can't remember them off the top of my head.
  9. There is no Thursday or Friday games this week thus there is only one deadline. Since there is no excuse to not get your picks in on time this week, if you don't you get your picks in I automatically will deduct one point from your score. For the GoTW I just picked the one with the highest ranked opponent against a Top 10 team. Damaramu has apparantly dropped out so I'm assinging the pinjockey as replacement for Oklahoma for the last two weeks. This Week in College Football 11/15 - 11/19

Quick glance at the bowl assignments for the major conferences. Pac-10 Rose: USC Holiday: Oregon Sun: UCLA Insight: Arizona State Las Vegas: California Emerald: Open This is assuming USC beats UCLA, ASU beats Arizona, and Notre Dame beats Stanford. Oregon was helped out in their hope for the Fiesta Bowl by Alabama losing but probably needed Ohio State to lose to get it. OSU appears to be the favorite now to get the other at-large bid with Notre Dame. If ASU becomes bowl eligible with a win next week the Insight would take them over Cal since the game is in Phoenix. Big XII Rose: Texas Cotton: Texas Tech Holiday: Oklahoma Alamo: Colorado Independence: Iowa State Houston: Nebraska Champ Sports: Missouri Fort Worth: Open This is if Iowa State wins at Kansas next week which isn't a lock. Kansas would become bowl eligible if they win. The Independence would probably prefer not to take Iowa State since they had them last year but would have to if the Cyclones win next week based on how the conference standings would break. Texas A&M can become bowl eligible if they beat Texas...um ya not gonna happen. Big Ten Fiesta/Orange: Penn State Fiesta/Orange: Ohio State Capital One: Wisconsin Outback: Michigan Alamo: Iowa Sun: Northwestern Music City: Minnesota Motor City: Open As already mentioned OSU is now the favorite to get a BCS at-large. Apparantly the Capital One is in love with Wisconsin, don't ask me why. Them, Michigan, and Iowa could all flip spots as they all tied with the same conference record. Northwestern did too but they're on the bottom end of the bowl interest in that group. Obviously all would slide down if Ohio State doesn't get a BCS bid. SEC Sugar: LSU Capital One: Auburn Cotton: Alabama Outback: Georgia Peach: South Carolina Independence: Florida Music City: Open Houston: Open This is of course if LSU beats Georgia, which wouldn't be something to assume but it would make things a lot easier with the selections. If Georgia beats LSU, then Capital One would have to choose between LSU and Auburn. Now LSU beat Auburn but LSU was in that bowl last year. Whoever they don't choose would end up in the Cotton Bowl. Alabama could end up all the way down in the Peach Bowl as the Outback Bowl always gets an SEC East team, although I don't believe that is set in stone. Again it'd just be easier for everyone for LSU to beat Georgia. ACC Orange: Virginia Tech Gator: Miami Peach: Georgia Tech Champ Sports: Florida State Car Care: Boston College MPC: Clemson Open bids: Virginia, Maryland/N.C. State winner This is if Va Tech beats Florida State. The Peach is interesting as it would seem they would take the hometown team in Georgia Tech but they would have to be mighty tempted by a Bowden/Spurrier match-up. If they take FSU then the Yellow Jackets would probalby fall to the Car Care as they were in the Champ Sports last year, thus BC would probably go there. Virginia could end up in any number of open bids, I'll just guess Music City Bowl for now. Maryland and N.C. State play each other next week, the winner becoming bowl eligble, the loser's season ends. UNC can become bowl eligible by winning in Blacksburg but not gonna happen. Big East Sugar: West Virginia Gator: Louisville Insight: South Florida Car Care: Rutgers This looks pretty solid barring the much talked about nightmare of USF upseting West Virginia. I'm sure the Car Care Bowl is thrilled with the possible traditional Big East BC/Rutgers match-up (that you could see last year) but hey they have the worst bowl name so who cares? Big East actually is an alternate for the Motor City if the Big Ten doesn't fill the bid but doesn't look they'll have a 5th bowl eligible team.

Corso and Herbstreet still think Notre Dame/Penn State in the Fiesta Bowl. Why would the Orange Bowl let one of them slip through their fingers? Remember they'll get to make their 2nd pick before the Fiesta Bowl. I just still don't see it happening.

I can't wait until the Pac-10 is officially off of Fox Sports Net after this year (or maybe it's after next when they start with ESPN) because regional coverage of local sports cause blackouts of national games. Here in the Bay Area we're getting a Sharks game instead of USC/Fresno State. Oh and god dammit Stanford, why in the hell did you lose to UC Davis? Once Edwards left the game tonight it was over and so are the bowl hopes as there is zero chance they beat Notre Dame next week. I just hope ASU wins next week or the Pac-10 is going to have only four bowl eligible teams, granted with three of them being very, very good.

Bored's College Football Pick 'Em - Week 12

A little update the bowls, currently 13 teams are bowl eligible with seven with a shot to still become bowl eligible next week: Oregon, Stanford, Arizona State, Washington State, Auburn, Virginia, Connecticut. Washington State and Connecticut play each other next week so there is a chance for as many as 19 bowl eligible teams. There are seven bowls but I think I'll add an eigth if necessary (almost did before the season but had an issue with people dropping out last yer). If there ends up being 15 bowl eligible teams and I'm one of them I'll give up my spot. Eight is the max for the bowls I'll have though as in real life not every bowl eligible teams ends up making it.

Gert T is your lucky SOB of the week as their replacement pick assignment teke has the best score of the week and consequently make a big jump in the rankings even with the one point penalty. Still one week in the regular season and the conference championships. It's going to be very interesting because next week it will probably be a good idea to get your picks in early so you don't have to remember over the holiday (don't worry I won't list any games for Thursday but there are always important Friday games).
