Forgot about UConn but it's all for naught now, the rumor wasn't true and Boston College has been invited to the Continental Tire Bowl. Florida is going to the Peach Bowl, Wyoming to the Las Vegas Bowl.
-
Pleassssssssssse comeback to Stanford Ty. We know you're a great coach.
-
Stanford has fired head coach Buddy Teevens. Come on you knew a guy named "Buddy" coaching Stanford wouldn't work. Here's a bizarre rumor but I can't find a link to an article on it. Boston College is rumored to be going to the Ft. Worth Bowl. If this is true I wonder if this some sort of Big East backlash by getting their bowls to pass on BC. I would assume in this scenerio that the Continental Tire Bowl, the last Big East bowl bid, has invited Syracuse over BC. Edit: Georgia Tech accepts invite to the Tangerine Bowl.
-
I'd say the odds are you'd remain at #2. I can't completely breakdown a scenerio yet until I have all picks in this week but pretty much everything would have to break UCLA's way for them to move to #2.

Final week of the regular season. See the Week 12 thread for conference championship updates. Reminder that West Virginia is now a dead team. They're game has no impact on any conference or bowl races so I'll use my picks for them. Please note the early Thursday deadline. It'd be wise to get your picks in earlier than normal this week. Only 16 games to pick for this week because of the limited schedule. I wanted to make this a seperate post as I have an important announcement. A_MikeSC has decided to drop out of the contest thus LSU (teke184) wins the Mid South Championship by forfeit and earns an automatic bid to the Oxycotton Bowl. What this also means is that we are now down to 13 bowl eligible teams for 14 spots. Now if Boston College (HarleyQuinn) wins the Big Atlantic title game then we'll have 14. If Boston College loses I have two options 1) Give the final bowl spot to Boise State who is a dead team being used by Vern Gagne, who already is in a bowl game, or 2) Give the final bowl spot to the highest ranked 6-7 team. I won't say who it is until the result of the BC game. I'm leaning towards option #2. Here are teke's picks: THURSDAY MAC Championship: Toledo vs. Miami of Ohio SATURDAY Pittsburgh at South Florida Virginia Tech at Miami Louisville at Tulane Army vs. Navy USC at UCLA SEC Championship: Tennessee vs. Auburn California at Southern Miss Big XII Championship: Oklahoma vs. Colorado Michigan State at Hawaii Tiebreak #1: How many total points will be scored in the SEC title game? 45 Tiebreak #2: How many yards passing will Oklahoma's Jason White have against Colorado? 255 Tiebreak #3: How many receiving yards will Toledo's Lance Moore have against Miami of Ohio? 84

In case anyone was wondering Syracuse loses out on the tiebreak for the Big Atlantic title game because they lost to both Virginia and Boston College.
-
It's kinda surprising they took West Virginia since they went to the Gator Bowl last year (and we're destroyed by Maryland) and lost big to B.C. just a few weeks ago. Guess the Gator Bowl didn't want a match-up that will be a conference game next year. Florida State has now accepted the invite to the Gator Bowl to play West Virginia. That means the loser of the VaTech/Miami game will go from a BCS bowl to the Peach Bowl. Not quite as dramatic as BCS bowl to the Continental Tire but still a pretty big drop off.
-
Boggs gets in this year, Sandberg in 2006, and then the McGwire, Gwynn, Ripken class of 2007. It's doubtful anyone else on this list ever gets in. I did this back in July in another topic so I'll just C&P:
-
I was going to give "exciting" live updates of the Louisiana Tech/Rice game but...after Rice led 6-3 thru the first quarter Tech scored 35 points in the 2nd quarter. 38-6 at the half. Barring a miracle I'll close out the regular season with a thud (losing five out of six), Auburn will fail to become bowl eligible, and Boston College will the be the surprise team in the Big Atlantic title game.

1. USC 2. Oklahoma 3. Auburn 4. California 5. Texas 6. Utah 7. Georgia 8. Boise State 9. Louisville 10. Miami 11. LSU 12. Virginia Tech 13. Iowa 14. Michigan 15. Tennessee 16. Florida State 17. Wisconsin 18. Virginia 19. Arizona State 20. Texas A&M 21. Texas Tech 22. Florida 23. Pittsburgh 24. Oklahoma State 25. Ohio State

Conference USA fills out their bowl bids: Memphis to GMAC, Southern Miss to New Orelans, Cincinnati to Ft. Worth. Here's the current list of accepted invites: New Orleans: North Texas vs. Southern Miss Liberty: Louisville vs. Boise State (if they don't get in the BCS) GMAC: Memphis Ft. Worth: Cincinnati Hawaii: UAB Insight: Notre Dame Alamo: Ohio State Houston: UTEP Emerald: Navy Continental Tire: North Carolina Sun: Purdue Music City: Minnesota Outback: Wisconsin Capital One: Iowa Rose: Michigan Edit: West Virginia has accepted an invite to the Gator Bowl. So Boston College has gone from a BCS game to probably the Continental Tire Bowl.

That's what makes Division I-A college football so bizarre is that there is no official national champion. The trophy they get isn't a NCAA National Championship trophy that you see every other sport. So technically there is never been a real national champion in Division I-A. After a quick search here's a brief article from last year on the 1950 national championship: http://www.secsports.com/index.php?url_cha...l_id=&well_id=2

Notre Dame (9 undisputed, 4 split): 1924, 1929, 1930, 1938 (split), 1942 (split), 1943, 1946, 1947 (split), 1949, 1966, 1973 (split), 1977, 1988 USC (4 undisputed, 6 split): 1928 (split), 1931, 1932 (split), 1939 (split), 1962, 1967, 1972, 1974 (split), 1978 (split), 2003 (split)

UAB has accepted an invitation to the Hawaii Bowl, their first bowl game ever. I figured they would have been invited the GMAC Bowl since the game is played in Alabama. Adrew Walter's season is over after seperating his shoulder.

USC has put away Notre Dame so here is the complete list match-ups decided today with three left to go for Monday's rescheduled Louisiana Tech/Rice game: #2 Minnesota (Vern Gagne) def. #6 Ohio State (Gert T) by forfeit Kent State (JHawk) def. Penn State (therealworldschampion) by forfeit West Virginia (Bored/*dead team*) def. Florida State (2GOLD) by forfeit Boise State (Vern Gagne/*dead team*) def. #5 Washington State (bravesfan) #8 Hawaii (Will Scarlet) def. Michigan State (teke184/*dead team*) Florida (Agent Bond34) def. Alabama (AlwaysPissedOff) #4 UCLA (phoenixrising) def. Oklahoma (Damaramu) by tiebreak #9 Oregon (nogoodnick) def. Georgia (A_MikeSC) Notre Dame (Lando Griffin) def. USC (Cartman); Lando holds tiebreak Tennessee (Kotzenjunge) def. Texas (Flyboy) Bowling Green (iggymcfly) def. Michigan (Mad Dog) Miami (Spaceman Spiff) def. Maryland (MarvinisaLunatic) #1 Virginia (Edwin MacPhisto) def. Rutgers (the pinjockey) Virginia clinches a spot in the Big Atlantic title game and will play the winner of the Syracuse/Boston College match-up. As I mentioned before I'm going to go ahead and PM everyone who has qualified for their conference title game with the list of games to pick for next week since I have to wait until late Monday night to post the new thread because of the LA Tech/Rice situation. I'll do this tommorrow and this is just so if anyone wants to get their picks in early instead of waiting until Monday/Tuesday. I was already planning on having everyone PM their picks for the conference title games. Next week there will only be one deadline, the MAC title game on Thursday night. A reminder the match-ups for the Conference Championship Games are: Pac-8: UCLA (phoenixrising) vs. Hawaii (Will Scarlet) Big MAC: Minnesota (Vern Gagne) vs. Notre Dame (Lando Griffin) Mid South: LSU (teke184) vs. Georgia (A_MikeSC) Big Atlantic: Virginia (Edwin MacPhisto) vs. Syracuse (Canadian Chris) or Boston College (HarleyQuinn)

Because Mike picked West Virginia so he was only up 1-0 going into Friday.
-
Texas Tech puts away Oklahoma State so the Big XII bowl picture looks fairly clear now. Here are my guesses: Orange: Oklahoma Cotton: Texas Holiday: Texas A&M Alamo: Texas Tech Independence: Oklahoma State Tangerine: Colorado Ft. Worth: Iowa State
-
In that scenerio it'd be: Orange: USC vs. Cal Sugar: Tennessee vs. Pittsburgh Fiesta: Colorado vs. Miami/Virginia Tech Rose: Michigan vs. Utah Could swap the Big East or ACC champ for the Sugar and Fiesta. Rose Bowl would get the first pick and they'd certainly take Utah over the ACC or Big East champ. Just a hunch we won't have to worry about any of this. TCU was just upset by Tulane in the final minute thus costing them bowl eligibility.
-
Who the Liberty Bowl takes will all be based on who sells the most tickets. Hey if the Gator Bowl doesn't take Notre Dame then who's to say the Liberty Bowl doesn't come knocking? Texas Tech I think ends up in the Alamo Bowl if they win today or the Ft. Worth Bowl if they lose today. Colorado will probably be in the Independence Bowl although if Oklahoma State loses today that's where they might end up.
-
I got them off of CollegeBCS.com. Here is in order the highest to lowest payouts by bowl. Rose, Orange, Sugar, Fiesta $14.4 million Capital One $5.125 million Cotton $3 million Outback $2.75 million Peach $2.15 million Holiday $2 million Gator $1.825 million Alamo $1.55 million Sun $1.5 million Liberty $1.3 million Independence $1.2 million Houston $1.1 million Las Vegas $800k Music City $780k Every other bowl $750k
-
As I pointed out yesterday UTEP took an open bid over one the WAC bowl bids and leaves the WAC likely without enough teams to fill their bids so I wouldn't see why Virginia couldn't do the same. The Liberty Bowl pays out $1.3 million as opposed to the $750k for the Tangerine Bowl. The Independence Bowl and Las Vegas Bowl are also potential open bid options for Virignia.

Edit: updated through OkSt/TexTech as only one additional match-up has been decided. #2 Minnesota (Vern Gagne) def. #6 Ohio State (Gert T) by forfeit Kent State (JHawk) def. Penn State (therealworldschampion) by forfeit West Virginia (Bored/*dead team*) def. Florida State (2GOLD) by forfeit Boise State (Vern Gagne/*dead team*) def. #5 Washington State (bravesfan) #8 Hawaii (Will Scarlet) def. Michigan State (teke184/*dead team*) Florida (Agent Bond34) def. Alabama (AlwaysPissedOff) #4 UCLA (phoenixrising) def. Oklahoma (Damaramu) by tiebreak #9 Oregon (nogoodnick) def. Georgia (A_MikeSC) Notre Dame (Lando Griffin) def. USC (Cartman); Lando holds tiebreak Tennessee (Kotzenjunge) def. Texas (Flyboy) Bowling Green (iggymcfly) def. Michigan (Mad Dog) Miami (Spaceman Spiff) def. Maryland (MarvinisaLunatic) Teke and I have picked so poorly this week that bravesfan actually has one more correct pick than us despite losing out on the Thursday and Friday games. Maybe bravesfan won't be dropping in the rankings after all.
