Bored's CFB Pick 'Em Contest Results - Week 1

Now for the first regular season Bored Championship Series Top 10 rankings. Preasason rankings have no effect on these rankings. The formula is simple: Average ranking (from 1 to 32) of a team's win/loss record, percentage of correct picks made, and percentage of correct picks made by their opponent. Since it's week 1 these rankings can be taken with a grain of salt and probably won't take any real shape for a few weeks. For example when it comes to win/loss record you are either ranked #1 or #17 at this point. If you did really well this week but your opponent did poorly your ranking won't be as good as you might think. Also if you lost this week but did well you might be pleasantly surprised. So just like the real BCS we'll have CONTROVERSY~! Note to break any ties in the rankings I go in order of win/loss record, perecentage of correct picks made, and then percentage of correct picks against. Two teams in the Top 10 had the exact same result in their matcH-ups this week thus they are tied. Now *drum roll*...The BCS Top 10 thru Week 1 1. Virginia (Edwin MacPhisto) 2.67 2. Ohio State (Gert T) 3.33 3. Washington State (bravesfan) 5.00 4. Syracuse (Canadian Chris) 6.00 5. Miami (Spaceman Spiff) 7.67 6. Penn State (therealsworldchampion) 8.00 7. Florida (Agent Bond34) 8.00 8. Kent State (JHawk) 8.67 9t. West Virginia (Loaded Glove) 9.00 9t. Alabama (AlwaysPissedOff) 9.00

No because Buckner's play is still there. Buckner will be #2, Miracle will be #1. I think for it being so shocking as Gibson was a gimp going up there against the best reliever in the game.

I've updated the scoreboard in the post before last. Everyone picked Tennessee so tonight's game has no meaning and there are just two games that will come down to tommorrow's Nevada/Louisiana Tech game. If Louisiana Tech wins Miami beats #1 Florida State (by tiebreak) and Ohio State beats #2 Kent State If Nevada wins #1 Florida State beats Miami and #2 Kent State beats Ohio State Louisiana Tech is a 6 point favorite.

Memphis beat Mississippi with Eli Manning last year so I don't consider that an upset. They have a good shot at the Conference USA title this year. Probably the biggest upset yesterday was Troy State beating Marshall. Score of the day from yesterday: UAB 56, Baylor 14. Now UAB isn't that bad, they have an outside shot at a bowl bid, but it's time for the Big 12 to give Baylor the boot.

Who would win in a fight?

Alou, but only if the fight is in Chicago as he can't a thing outside of Wrigley. Don't forget Alou's urine covered hands of doom.

Normally on Sunday's I'll have the next week's Pick 'Em thread up but because we have games today and one game tommorrow I won't have it up until tommorrow afternoon at the earliest. Now if you want to get a head start on next week and make your picks now I'm going to give you that opportunity. If you do want to make picks for Week 2 today send them by private message only. Do not post them in this thread. Here are the games to pick from for Week 2 and the two tiebreaker questions. Pittsburgh/South Florida on Monday has also been postponed due to Hurricane Frances so that will effect the potential ties I listed earlier. I'll delete those differing picks for that game. If anyone cares I guess ESPN has regional coverage this year because on ESPN2 we have Cal/Air Force on the west coast instead of Virginia/Temple.

Probably because they are a great team playing in a weak conference. It'll be a complete shock if the don't get the Big East's BCS bid as there no other Top 25 calibar teams in that conference. They have the potential to go unbeaten in the regular season although they'll have to beat Virginia Tech in Blacksburg in what is now a non-conference match-up.

    September Call-ups

A's have called up outfielder Nick Swisher, who was the A's first pick in the 2002 "Moneyball" draft. He'll likely be in the starting line-up tonight against Toronto.

I'm 99.9% sure the list was put together before Tillman's death. In fact judging by some of the overly high placements of the Bartman incident and Sosa's corked bat I'd say it was put together at the end of 2003.

To be fair, the A's can't beat any of those three teams in the playoffs. Right. Because they were just blown out of the water every time they played. The A's just couldn't compete every year. Uh huh. Anyways I pointed out the Red Sox as that was easily the most heart wrenching of the playoff series losses last season. Blow the 2-0 lead and had great chances to win the each of the final three games.

Utah has no shot at the national title game, undefeated or not. But they would have probably as good a shot as any non-BCS conference team has had at playing in a BCS bowl. Boston College struggles to beat Ball State 19-11 tonight. Can they just give West Virginia the Big East title right now? They are just going to breeze through that conference.

It's looking more and more like we'll have the same teams in the playoffs for the A.L. and probably the same exact match-ups. I'm not exactly jumping for joy at the chance to see the A's against the Red Sox again.

As long as Alex Smith is upright, Utah has an excellent chance at going 11-0. The only game where they could be tripped up is at San Diego State, who have one of the best defenses in country.

Bored's CFB Pick 'Em Contest Results - Week 1

See this is why I'm dropping the current tiebreaker system after this week as it's confused too many people. Anyways you and Vern differed on an even number of games so if you split those six games you'll end up in a tie. The 2nd tiebreaker was who correctly picked the New Mexico/Washington State game. It's now the 1st tiebreaker because the FSU/Miami game was postponed. Again I'll be dropping this system for Week 2 and just going with the tiebreaker questions. Edit: Oh and of course you two disagreed on the New Mexico/Washington State game so that's why it could decide your match-up. If you two had made the same pick it'd go the Leinart passing yardage question.
