Better yet a complete overhaul of the entire American basketball system. While it's true the rest of world is getting better, basketball in this country has taken a giant step backwards in the last ten years. -
They do have their entire offensive line and Anthony Davis back so no surprise they are ranked. I think Wisconsin's struggles the last few years have to be on the coaching staff as they seem to always drop a couple of games to inferior opponents yet then they still seem to pull off one huge win every year. They aren't going anywhere out of the rankings anytime soon either as they should coast to a 5-0 start until they meet Ohio State in October.

The A's are in serious jeopardy of losing a series at home to the Royals. What the hell is going on here? They have cupcake schedule for the remainder of August and they aren't taking advantage of it.
-
I swear the damn Cubs better not let the Giants fall ass backwards into the playoffs.

This is a total indictment on how bad the NBA is right now. A league that is too young, full of one-one-one players, who can't shoot worth a damn. But as pointed out above this team was put together for marketing purposes only with the slections of LeBron and Carmello. U.S. Basketball were fools for not replacing Jason Kidd with a true point guard or replacing Ray Allen with someone who can actually shoot. Maybe this will be a wake up call for American basketball that some real changes need to be made but I doubt it.

See NBC's coverage is even worse if your on the west coast. The USA/Puerto Rico game is advertised as being live but that's on the east coast only so we're stuck a three hour delay no matter what and will see ZERO events live...just like every Olympics. Oh and if the U.S. conintues to get blown out by Puerto Rico they might as well pack their bags and go home now. What a disgrace this team is.

I think it was two years ago when replacement players did finally show up MLBPA liscensed games so I would assume the union finally allowed those players to join.

2004 Bored College Football Pick 'Em Contest Last season I had a pick 'em contest for the bowls (won by razazteca) and I thought it came off well enough to do a pick 'em contest for the entire season. Now originally I was thinking of just doing a straight pick 'em where the person who picks the most games right wins. But what fun would that be? So I decided to borrow/steal kkk's idea of having head-to-head match-ups every week but with a college football twist. Now there are 117 Division I-A teams in college football so there is no way I can get 117 posters to join the contest. So my goal is to get 32 people to sign up and pick a school they want to represent. I will then put together four conferences of eight teams. I'll try my best to get teams in their real life conference in the same conference in the contest. Once I get 32 people in the contest (hopefully) I will put together a 13 week schedule. I'll match-up real life games in the week they happen. Each participant in the contest will pick the winners to every nationally televised game and ABC regional game that weekend. The first week though will encompass the first two weekends of the college football season as there is only one game the weekend of August 28th (USC vs. Virginia Tech). Of course the team who picks the most games right wins the game. I will have two tiebreaker pick em' games every week (which will be the games that has the closest spread) and then a tiebreaker question, which will be something like "how many yards will Matt Leinart throw for this week?" and other related questions. Since there are no ties in college football I don't plan on having any ties here. Now for the college football twist on this, first off during the conference championship game week we will have our own conference championship week. The 1st and 2nd place teams in each conference will face off that week and the winners will qualify for the Bored Championship Series. I will have a total of seven bowl games as of yet to be determined match-ups. Of course there will be national championship game between the #1 and #2 ranked teams in the contest. Oh and yes each bowl game will be sponsored. Now that brings me to the rankings. I will have Top 10 rankings every week featuring the Bored Championship Series formula. Now it's far less confusing than the real life BCS formula. It will contain three factors: 1) Total won/loss record 2) Perecentage of total correct picks made 3) Perecentage of total correct picks made against, which will serve as strength of schedule These will all be weighted evenly and there is hopefully the chance someone might get screwed...just like real life! Now for the prize. You do not have to pay to enter the contest but I will buy the winner of the national championship game something in value of $50 to $60. It can be college football related merchandise if you so choose (currently looking for good sites to buy college football merchandise) or if you don't want something college football related I could buy you a couple of DVDs of your choice off of Amazon.com. I will be participating in the contest but I can't win. If I'm the #1 team, the #2 team will win the prize. Now I need the 32 posters to join, and of course only join if you know you can particpate the entire season. Through pm's to people who particpated in my bowl pick 'em contest last season and regular to semi-regulars in the college football topics I have 22 people who have joined the contest. Here who has joined and which school they will represent. Bumping this for an update. I will be posting the Week 1 Pick Em' topic next Saturday, a week before the USC/Va Tech game. I wanted to give everyone a full week to make their picks to make sure that everyone who signed up is definently going to participate. A few rules updates: 1) The deadline for week 1 will be the kickoff of the USC/Va Tech game. All other weeks before championship week, the deadline will be every Saturday at Noon EST/9 am PST. Now there are games every week before Saturday but I will allow people to submit there picks up until then, just you obviously won't get points for the games that were already played. 2) If you do not submit your picks by the deadline, you forfeit that week. I'm not going to make picks for people or constantly have to PM people to get their picks in on time. You will get a 0 in points for and points against. The only exception might be Week 1 as if I don't receive picks from someone I will look into replacing them. There is one poster who was new to the board that hasn't posted in a while so I might have to replace them. 3) If you happen to be playing against someone who forfeited that week you will not be penalized in points against. The points against that week will be one point less than the number games you correctly picked. For example if you picked 15 games right, your points against for that week will be 14. This way playing a forfeited team will not hurt your BCS ranking. 4) If two teams playing each other forfeit in the same week, they both lose. 5) If someone knows that that they won't have internent access a particular week and can't make their picks, please let me know by PM and we'll work something out. 6) Tiebreakers: I orginally was going to go with three tiebreakers but have decided to go with four as I want to avoid ties at all costs. The first two tiebreakers again will be the two games that have the closest point spread as to deem them as the toughest games to pick that week. If both posters picked both games right, or wrong, then the 3rd tiebreaker will be a question of how many total points will be scored in a particular game (i.e. "How many points will be scored in the FSU/Miami game?"). If both pick the same number of points then it will go the 4th and final tiebreaker will be a question about how many yards a particular player will have that week (i.e."How many yards will Matt Leinart throw for?"). Feel free to ask any questions. Just 14 days until the college football season starts!

I left an A's game early tonight for the first time in three years and for the first time because of the game itself in about six years. I left in disgust in the 8th inning after Joe Randa took Mulder deep as I just couldn't believe before that inning that Macha was leaving him in. Macha once again proved he has zero clue how to handle his pitching staff. Mulder appeared to me to be over throwing and possibly over compensating for an injury. As I posted early in the thread he has had a problem with his command of late. Tonight he was leaving a lot of pitches up in the zone. Even though he walked only two, one was a killer to Ken Harvey who swings at everything and he was ahead 1-2 and that was right in front of Nunez's grand slam. Royals 10, A's 3. Don't get much uglier than that.

They already took place a few hours ago, so yes they will be on tape delay here.

Late night talk show shakeup coming..
Bored replied to MarvinisaLunatic's topic in Television & Film
I believe Conan just signed a long term extension with NBC this past year. As for Jon Stewart would the Late Late Show really be any higher profile than the Daily Show beyond being on a network? You can at least see the Daily Show at a some what reasonable hour and the show has a huge following. -
Now for the one moment on the list that I was there in person. I was in line for a hot dog with my dad under the upper deck of Candlestick Park when it happened. #26: World Series halted by Bay Area earthquake

I will be at the A's/Royals game Friday night. Mulder will pitch and in his last three starts he's failed to strikeout more batters than he's walked (10 strikeouts, 12 walks). I figure the Royals will help snap that streak for him.
