    The Baseball Strike

Ohter replacement players: Rick Reed Lou Merloni Kerry Ligtenberg Brian Daubach Jeff Tam Anyone remember Mike Busch? He was the first replacement player to make into the Majors in 1995. He played for the Dodgers and Brett Butler threw a fit over it. Busch of course was given a standing ovation in his first at bat.

You know the UConn women's basketball team still hasn't made their appearance on the list. I just assume they will be since they are on every other ESPN list. If they are on the list they will be higher than one of the greatest upsets in sports history. This one I thought would be in the Top 10. #28: Douglas knocks out Tyson, shocks world

So was this what the media was talking about in regards to Lo Duca's "heart and soul"? Dodgers win again. Marlins lose again. When does the public apology from those idiot baseball writers to Paul DePodesta come already?

I didn't hang around to watch the Edgar segment as my head was spinning from the previous segment that my post referred to. Anyways the biggest argument for me against Edgar is his career totals (not referring to his OBP and OPS which are excellent) don't scream future HOF. He never played more than 155 games in a season and just four times played in 150+ games. I personally am anti-DH so I'm biased but he missed too much time for a guy who didn't play the field for 70% of his career to be Hall of Famer.

Great stuff from Harold Reynolds tonight on Baseball Tonight: -Mariners farm system is depleted because they draft college players. -Angels have been on a great run for four or five years. -A's made a mistake by giving up on Kevin Gregg because he was drafted out of high school. I swear he's becoming even more idiotic than Kruk.

A's place Chad Bradford on the DL and call up Jairo Garcia. He began the year in single-A and for the year he has 79 strikeouts to 18 walks in 51 1/3 innings pitched, allowing just four earned runs.

    "Old School" Sportscenter...

I never watch SportsCenter anymore but I may have to tune into the Steiner one. If for anything they'll definently show the clip of him breaking down laughing after showing the highlight of Carl Lewis screwing up the national anthem.

    The 1994 MLB Playoffs

Kevin Brown and Kenny Rogers for their career sure you'd take them. But for 1994 Alvarez and Fernandez were much better than Brown and Rogers. In fact Brown did not have a good season at all in 1994 posting an ERA near 5. Also the White Sox #4 starter that year, Jason Bere, was better than both of them.

I really, really, really, really don't want to say it already but...Octavio Dotel is a bust as a closer. Nearly blows it again today, giving up a two run homer to Morneau, but hangs on by the skin of his teeth for the 6-5 win in the 18th. Oh and the A's assure themselves their first winning road trip in nearly three months.

A's/Twins game is in the 18th inning. Neither team has scored the last nine innings. Edit: Jermaine Dye finally breaks it up with an rbi single. Now up to Dotel. Edit 2: See I just knew the A's had to last out the Twins bullpen to get to Mulholland. Two more runs put the A's up 6-3 in the 18th.

This will be the 10th year of the Wild Card and so far there has only been two World Series ('95 and '99) where the teams with the best record in both leagues made it. Of course a Yankees/Cardinals World Series isn't a lock by any stretch.

Billy Koch 2.0 blows another save for the A's tonight giving up a homerun to Shannon Stewart in the 9th to send the game to extra innings. Wow has Dotel been a dissapointment. Still better than Rhodes but that isn't saying much. Bullpen is going out of it's way this year to cost the A's the division.

Even as an A's fan I'd like to come out in support of Johan Santana for Cy Young. The mental morons at ESPN and baseball writers are already casting their vote for Mark Mulder because of his 15-3 record. Mulder is a great pitcher and deserves consideration but Santana has been the better pitcher so far this year. Mulder: 3.50 ERA, 8.1 H/9, 2.9 BB/9, 6.1 K/9 Santana: 3.30 ERA, 6.4 H/9, 2.4 BB/9, 10.2 K/9 Now reason why Santana isn't getting serious consideration at the moment is becuase of his 10-6 record which doesn't blow anyone away and doesn't catch the attention of the John Kruk's of the world. Hell you'll hear Kenny Rogers name more about the Cy Young than Santana's even though he has an ERA almost a run higher but Kenny has a 13-4 record. Mulder's superior record is because of the amazing run support he's received from a generally average A's offense. Mulder receives 7.39 runs per game (4th in the A.L.) to Santana's 4.54 (35th in the A.L.). But of course you can't expect the "experts" to actually look up rather simple statistics (nothing sabermatic about this) that tell you that Santana has been better. Now still a lot of season to go so Mulder could pitch lights out the rest of the season and Santana could comeback down to earth. But right now Santana is my Cy Young pick.
