FCC is too busy trying to raise fines to ridiculous amounts for "indecency" to care about the conventions.

Mientkiewicz is a perfect example of how fans can overrate defense. He's a great first baseman, there's no denying that. But he can't possibly make so many plays that your average first baseman would not make to justify his lack of offense. Mientkiewicz has had two good offensive years in 2001 and 2003 so he hasn't been a terrible hitter, although he has been so far this year.

Beltran would have definently been the Roayls rep if he hadn't been traded. I have no clue how it works with the player voting, in terms of what the ballot looks like so I'm not even sure if Beltran will be on the N.L. ballot for the payers. Last year Carl Everett made it as the back-up DH on the player ballot despite not being the White Sox DH. Just looked up the win shares leaders (through June 25th) and Micahel Young of all people currently leads the A.L. with 16. Barry Bonds leads the Majors with 25.

Ken Harvey will probably end up being the Royal rep which means someone like Frank Thomas is going to get snubbed.

It's really a shame to see the Real WWE World Title, the belt with all the lineage unlike the Raw Title, become officially the #2 belt in the company. It just can't be taken seriously anymore.

A's have called up Kirk Saarloos but they didn't DL Harden yet, they sent down Ramon Castro. Saarloos is only going four to five innings a start at Sacramento so I think he's being called up to take Duchscherer's spot as the long man while he steps in the rotation. I suspect when/if Harden goes on the DL they will call up Steve Woodard. It does appear they have no intention of wasting an option on Blanton at this time.
-
A's pitching coach Curt Young said after the game that he thinks Harden can make his next start. I'll believe it when I see it but I'll take that as this injury isn't a bad as it looked. Now I read this from the AP article on the game Those alarm clocks are a bitch.

I know and I already said I didn't worry but with everything that went wrong today I didn't need to see the new closer blow it. It's just too much bad shit in one day. Thinking about what they will do for the next two weeks until Hudson comes back, they might actually call up ex-Brewer Steve Woodard if they seriously don't want to waste an option year (and arb year?) on Blanton. They have ex-Astro Kirk Saarloos also but since he's been hurt this year they might have him on a real strict pitch count so don't know if they'd want him up or not.
-
Yes, so his season probably isn't over but it's still about as bad as a day can get. I mean I'm not really worried about Dotel, although I'm sure several idiot A's fans will already throw him under the bus, but damn what horrible timing. Hopefully the A's can just survive until the All-Star break. They'll have Hudson back and Chavez soon after. Until then it's going to be a severe gut check time for this team. Hopefully Blanton is as good as advertised because they'll need the boost. Marco Scutaro rbi single in the 10th wins it. Dotel gets the vulture.
-
Octavio Dotel blows his first save opportunity with the A's. Granted he came in the 8th to get the A's out of a Jim Mecir bases loaded jam but...I'm speechless. Somebody find the person with the A's bullpen voo doo doll.

Call me crazy but I'd think more people remember Theismann's injury more than this. #74: Van de Velde triple-bogeys on the 18th hole

When it rains it pours, Rich Harden might have seriously injured his wrist and shoulder (non-throwing arm) in the 3rd inning tonight on a play at first base. Jeez why can't it be Zito getting hurt? Edit: Harden seperated his left shoulder. Joe Blanton will be his MLB debut next week most likely.

http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/news;_ylc=X3oD...ov=ap&type=lgns Of course the last line there is why the trade goes through. Teahan and Wood both had no future with the A's so even though it's a steep price for Dotel they had to make this happen. Best part of the deal, for my perspective at least, is it keeps Beltran from being traded to the Red Sox who the A's might meet again in the playoffs.
-
I'd assume so, which would be tommorrow since Hudson was scheduled. No point in wasting an option on Blanton when Hudson will only miss probably three starts at the most. Rangers have to be thinking to themselves "Are we the luckiest team ever?" Losing Brian Jordan and Chan Ho Park ain't exactly like losing Chavez and Hudson or all the players the Angels have had to do without.
-
A's obviously had to make a roster move to put Ocatvio Dotel on the roster but didn't expect to read this: It's not a serious injury but....FUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
Funny just got around to taking a look at this week's Sports Illustarted and it has an article about Beltran with not a single mention of the Astros being in the running for him.
-
God Barry Zito is just a sack of shit now. Spots the Giants five runs in the first including a three-run homer to Deivi Cruz for crying out loud. With Schmidt on the mound he's already pretty much given the game away.

I'm sure Chris Berman has input on what he says in the narrative so knowing him he probably insisted on mentioning Louganis being HIV positive even though it had nothing to do with the moment. #75: Theismann's career ends with gruesome injury
