I must've been thinking about that OTHER year you guys didn't make it out of the first round. At least we've got people showing up to our games. Ah, but those two or three who DO show up at the "Net", they're passionate, right? I never understood why an A's fan could hate the Giants. I can see being indifferent, but Oakland has been a vastly superior franchise since moving west. Just wave your four rings in our faces. End of discussion. There's no real reason for it. I hate the As, but only because of the rings. After that, there isn't much to care about. Oooo yes NO ONE shows up to A's games. None. Zero....give or take 2.2 million. It's amazing the A's even draw as well as they do with an ownership that shits all over it's fanbase and the stadium it plays in every chance it gets. My hatred for the Giants was very slow and steady, in fact they were my N.L. team for a number of years up until 1997 when McGwire was traded to the Cardinals. There are a couple of reasons why I hate them but the main reason came in 2000 when Peter McGowan was the "annonymous owner" quoted in Sports Illustrated in the article that first brought up contraction and he suggested the A's be one of the teams that should be eliminated even though the A's at that time were just turning it around. So fuck him and fuck the Giants.

    Bonds was given steroids

It should be noted the Chronicle has part ownership in the Giants so they have little to gain by trying smear the franchise's best player.

Ya wouldn't want your fans to show some passion, rather just talk on your cell phone all game right? Anyways the drummers haven't been there since 2002. Hopefully all rubber chickens from Giants fans will be confiscated. Oh and btw I think Sunday will be the '89 World Champion A's reunion. Highlights and memories of the A's whipping the shit out of the Giants. Have fun.

The three-way deal to send Beltran to the Astros and Dotel to the A's has been killed because A's owner Steve Schott refuses to add the payroll for Dotel even though just this past weekend his said he'd add payroll to improve the bullpen. Fucking asshole. http://www.foxsports.com/content/view?contentId=2512002

Rumored three-way deal in the works between the Royals, Astros, and A's. Carlos Beltran would go to the Astros, Octavio Dotel to the A's, and prospects to the Royals. http://mlb.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/mlb/news/mlb...s_mlb&fext=.jsp

The A's are just a disaster on the road. Tonight Tim Hudson, A.L. Cy Young candidate, takes on Bartolo Colon, fat man with a 6+ ERA, and what happens? Well into the fifth Hudson is getting completely shelled and Colon is pitching a gem. If they can't comeback tonight (down 5-0) they will have lost 10 of 11 and 12 of 14 on the road. Since last year they will be 10 games under .500 on the road as compared to 47 games over .500 at home. Sure it's natural to expect a team to be better at home than on the road but this is ridiculous.

I wonder what they'd call a restaurant for anorexics...'The Empty Plate'...'The Lonesome Chef'...'Start Without Me, Guys'." ---George Carlin. pretty much sums up my stance on the topic. DAMN was going to post the exact same thing.

23-years old and only in Double-A (been in the minors since 2000) so he probably isn't THAT great of a prospect. Does a have a great strikeout per nine innings ratio but walks too many and has an ERA near five. The problem I'd have with the deal is immediately giving Grimsley an extension. Oh and the A's bullpen is getting lit up again. I know I'm shocked too. At least they had the deceny to do it when they were already losing tonight.

Hmmm good point. Clark and Worrell were involved in arguably the worst call in baseball history. It was Game 6 of the '85 World Series between the Cardinals and Royals with St. Louis up 3 games to 2. Cardinals were up 1-0 going into the bottom of the 9th with Worrell facing Jorge Orta. Orta hit a ground ball to Clark at first, he flipped to Worrell who ran over to cover first. Worrell stepped on the bag and beat Orta by a full step but umpire Don Denkinger called him safe even though every replay clearly showed Orta was out. It sparked a Royals rally and they won 2-1, then they would would crush the Cardinals 11-0 in Game 7. The call probably cost the Cardinals a world championship.

    All-Time All-Star Teams

Mike Schmidt is so the greatest third baseman of all-time it's not even open for debate. Anyways if you want to compare era's then we just look at our old friend OPS+ and compare Robinson to the great third basemen of all-time, a historically weak position. Brooks Robinson 104 Mike Schmidt 147 George Brett 135 Wade Boggs 130 Eddie Mathews 143 Frank Baker 135 Ron Santo 125 (not in the HOF) Edit: I see Al posted Robinson's OPS+ number also. Edit 2: Here are the other HOF third basemen. Jimmy Collins 113 George Kell 111 Freddie Lindstrom 110 Pie Traynor 107

Ripken was really the only other option at short for the A.L. And those results are the exact picks I made although after a couple of revisions. Although now that I think of it maybe I should have put George Brett at 3rd and Ty Cobb in center. Oh well, it's close.

Yup. I actually can't blame Macha this time as Mulder had thrown 123 pitches and they needed to try to score another run in the 9th so pinch hitting him was the only option. The bullpen is just pathetic all the way around. Beane is also completely handucuffed because he can't release Mecir and/or Rincon, who are both just useless at this point, because ownership won't eat their salaries and Beane can't make a deal for a reliever because there is no open spot on the roster. So frustrating because the division looks right their for the A's to take but the bullpen is holding them back. I have to think they've cost them at least 10 wins this season. All bullpens blow games but only the Indians are worse.

    OaO vs. One topic threads

Just drop the "OaO" titles and go with "Official" like I did for the MLB Offseason Topic. I made it clear that the larger stories of the offseason deserved their own thread, and did with things like the A-Rod trade, but for just general discussion that thread was perfect for it. The "OaO" label is silly and pointless but it is good to have core topics on a particular subject such as the weekly baseball topics. I would suggest though we have "OaO" topic for a certain poster, for a certain sport, for a certain team, so they can bitch non-stop about them without flooding other topics during that particular sport's season. And I'm not talking about Anglesault. I'll leave it up to others to figure it out.
