    This Week in Baseball

He breaks Cy Young's record as the oldest pitcher to ever throw a perfect, almost 100 years to the day of Young's perfect game (May 5, 1904). Amazing.

    This Week in Baseball

Damn didn't realize the game was on TBS. Congratulations to Livermore, CA native (where I lived for a few years and grew up the next town over) Randy Johnson. Wow and how bad is it for the Braves now? 18 strikes out by Ben Sheets on Sunday and now a perfect game.

    Your teams biggest heartbreaking moment

Who cares? The 49ers won the Super Bowl that year. The biggest heartbreaking moment by far for the 49ers was the '90/'91 NFC Championship Game against the Giants. Montana having his hand broken late in the game and Roger Craig fumbling to lead to the winning field goal for the Giants to prevent the 49ers from attempting to win a 3rd straight Super Bowl. That's one of the big "what if?" scenerios. What if Craig doesn't fumble and the 49ers have to take on the Bills with Steve Young at qb? Young wasn't as good as he would be a couple of years later and that was probably the best Bills team of their four Super Bowl apperances.

    This Week in Baseball

Troy Glaus will have shoulder surgery and is possibly out for the season. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=1803589 Hey if it takes the entire Angels team going down to injury for the A's to win a fourth division title in five years, so be it.

    Eddie's Blade Job

I have to question Eddy's sanity for doing a blade job like that in a relatively meaningless match.

    This Week in Baseball

I thought about bumping the John Kruk is a big fat idiot thread but I'll just post this here. On Baseball Tonight he said Jarrod Washburn is his pick for the Cy Young right now. Wasburn has a 4.68 ERA currently. He is 7-1 but has benefitted from 12 runs per game of run support. "I don't care about ERA, your job is to get your team wins." "I'm always going to pick the guy who has the most wins." I'm trying to figure out at this point if he really is this stupid or ESPN is telling him to just appeal to stupid fans (or stupid baseball writers who sometimes seem to use the same logic). Even the occasionally equally moronic Harold Reynolds thought that he was crazy.

    RedSox/Royals/Mariners 3-way deal?

I can't confirm this since I read it on another board. ESPN Insider and Baseball Weekly apparantly both are reporting a rumor between the Cubs and Royals where Beltran goes to the Cubs for Corey Patterson and Kyle Farnsworth. I'm officially with Al, just let him go three free agency and pick up the draft picks if these rumors are the best they can come up with.

    This Week in Baseball

A's finally sweep a series by beating the Royals 6-2. They had been 0-5 in series sweeping games so far this season. Ben Sheets of the Brewers strikes out 18 today against the Braves. For the year he has 66 strikes out and only 9 walks.

    The OAO NBA Playoffs/Finals Thread

A pox on the Spurs for blowing the series and forcing the American public to put up with more of Kobe's "heroics" of going from "court to court."

    This Week in Baseball

The Giants dropped to 0-6 today when Barry Bonds doesn't play. When they don't have him in the line-up and don't have either Jason Schmidt or Jerome Wiliams pitching they field probably the worst team in baseball.

    Expos sign Vidro

It was already mentioned that Vidro now won't be the Yankees second baseman at the end of the year but figure they can start stitching Bret Boone's Yankee uniform. Can't imagine the Mariners clawing themselves back into contention so they'll probably be sellers in July. I'm sure Bill Bavasi will take Kenny Lofton for him.

Kevin Youkilis, the "Greek God of Walks" from Moneyball, so far is 2 for 3 with a homerun in his MLB debut for the Red Sox.

    Expos sign Vidro

They had signed Livan Hernandez to a long term deal before the season started so this is probably a sign that MLB will finally have an announcement in the near future that the Expos are moving.

    X-Men Producer Talks About X-Men 3

I'm kinda doubting they'll bring the Shi'Ar into the storyline and they'll just to have to come up with a different ending. Also it's impossible to go strictly by the original since Magneto had nothing to do with the orignal storyline and I'm assuming he'll be in the movie. Probably focus on the Hellfire Club part of the story. Hmm wonder what hottie they'll cast as the White Queen?

    BCS to be tweaked.

Saw this a few days ago and thought of posting it's just the typical tweaking of the formula that accomplishes nothing. Dumping the New York Times rankings would have solved more problems than junking strength of schedule and losses.

    Oh give me a break

In all seriousness how much longer is Bonds going to play? I know he said he might retire when his contract is up after 2005 but never can really take him at face value. I would be surprised though if he plays past 2006 (he'd be 42 at that point) and law of averages says that his career has to hit the wall eventually where he just isn't the same player he used to be. So point is why the hell would you want to radically change the game for a player who won't even be around in a few years? All of this moaning about Bonds being intentionally walked too much is just pointless.

    Your team's worst trade(s) ever

Actually you pretty much nailed it on the Kobe deal. He said before the draft he'd only play for the Knicks, Bulls, or Lakers (three bigges t.v. markets). Just another reason to hate the guy.

    Your team's worst trade(s) ever

A's trading Mark McGwire for T.J. Mathews, Blake Stein, and Eric Ludwick might rank as one of the worst trades ever on paper. They weren't going to re-sign him since they were cutting payroll, he didn't want to stay with the franchise looking dead in the water in 1997, and they had Jason Giambi waiting in the wings. They had a deal with the Angels almost done where they would have picked up Jim Edmonds (along with a couple of nobodies) but the Disney people nixed the deal and the A's had to settle with the terrible Cardinals deal.

    Your team's worst trade(s) ever

The Warriors have a long history of bad trades but this was probably the worst of all back in 1980: Golden State trades C Robert Parish and No. 3 pick (Kevin McHale) to Boston for the Nos. 1 and 13 picks (Joe Barry Carroll and Rickey Brown) Forget worst in franchise history that was one of the worst trades is sports history.
