Bill Bavasi: "So I'll trade Randy Winn and John Olerud for Joe DiMaggio and Lou Gehrig. Now you got yourself a team!"
-
To this point he's be your classic 4-A player. Dominates Triple-A but struggles in the Majors. Hard thrower who the A's at once point pegged as a future closer but has had control problems. He was out of options so the A's were going to lose him through waviers or free agency so they did well to get something for him.

.500 baseball in a 10 game stretch is cause for mass suicide apparantly.
-
Hell he topped it two days ago. I still can't get overly excited just 10 games in but my expectations of what he'd do this season has gone up quite a bit.
-
You'd rather trade him and keep Ken Harvey? Err, okay. I say call up Bill Bavasi and ask him if he wants Harvey and/or Desi Relaford. Mariners now 2-8. Bavasi is probably wondering if he can still get Omar Vizquel.

I wasn't going to watch the game at all but reading how bad Scooter was I tuned in just for the trainwreck value of it. Only was able to stomach two minutes of YANKS/SAWX and Tim McCarver before I changed it and didn't see Scooter.

I think he is that stupid. Before the Giants built Pac Bell the A's outdrew the Giants the majority of the years that they've shared the market which is what he's referring to as them "hurting" the Giants. A lot of that had to do with the A's just having better teams overall since 1968.

His constant extortion of cities to build their billionaire owners new ballparks with only public funds has made him a disgrace to the game. That and the contraction debacle will be his legacy. He also in the past has gone out of his way to shit on my A's. He claimed they were a fluke back in 2000 because they went completely against his notion that teams like the A's couldn't win with a small payroll and low revenues. Every Spring Training he slithers into A's camp to say they can't compete without a new ballpark. He also said this about the A's a few years back: Yup, I hate him.
-
For someone who didn't see either could you go into detail about what happened in both incidents?
-
Maybe the Phillies are playing so bad just to get Larry Bowa fired.
-
Now why I'm supposed to care about "power rankings" in any other sport but college football? Everyone else settles it on the field so who gives a shit what espn.com's thinks or any other site? Really people getting worked up about nothing.

It's still early in the season but holy crap Jermaine Dye is back with a vengeance. Two more homeruns for him tonight gives him five for the season, which is how many he hit in 65 games last year. Bobby Crosby also hit his first career homerun tonight.

I completely avoided ESPN these past two days as their Bonds coverage was getting sickening already over the weekend. I really want to see the ratings for these Bonds' break-ins they do and see if it truly brings in viewers. It seems to turning more viewers off than anything. This is the type of coverage I'd expect, and would accept, if Bonds were going for 755 and 756.

Tony Lazzeri and Willie Randolph are the best Yankee second basemen. Nothing wrong with Nettles at 3rd though. I'm too tired to research the A's for their entire history and I'd probably just list near the exact same Neyer has in his book but here is the A's best since I became a fan in 1986. C-Terry Steinbach 1B-Mark McGwire 2B-Tony Phillips 3B-Eric Chavez SS-Miguel Tejada LF-Rickey Henderson CF-Dave Henderson RF-Jose Canseco DH-Harold Baines SP-Dave Stewart SP-Tim Hudson SP-Barry Zito SP-Mark Mulder CL-Dennis Eckersley

The Mets really need to get rid of black in their uniform all together and go back to their 80's look. I'd say the new Blue Jays uniforms are going to rank among all-time worst pretty soon. Maybe they'll come to their senses and ditch them after one year.
-
Ya I posted something similar he said last month although I think he might have said he'd go as high as 130 pitches. Mark Buehrle so needs to ask for a trade while he's still young enough to have a decent career.

"Human Rain Delay" Mike Hargrove "Bye-Bye" Steve Balboni "The Timid Texan" Andy Hawkins "The Capital Punisher" Frank Howard "Super Jew" Sandy Koufax (no I'm not making that one up)

Yeah they do (unless you're talking abuot something else). My fucking starting pitching killed me. Not one single win, way too many hits, and a shitty ERA. Thank you, Ramon Ortiz (23.63). For some reason this morning it wasn't but then check it at lunch and it was.
-
And I thought I hated Bonds. Hopefully he'll hit #661 tommorrow to end this ESPN's 24-hour coverage of him. Edit: Good article by Rob Neyer on the overhyping of 660. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/columns/stor..._rob&id=1780658

With the 47th pick overall the San Francisco 49ers select, Igor Olshansky, Defensive Tackle, from the University of Oregon.
-
That's why they play the games on the field, bitch! How lazy is Yahoo? They don't put the standings in order and when I went to check the results page they don't even let you see how the final result came to be. Weak.

There goes my chances in Dr. Tom's league. Oh and keep all sharp objects away from your wrists Cubs fans.
-
Nah. 1st or 2nd in the league in ERA. Wow, top of the league thru six games. Might as well start comparing them to the 90's Braves. Uh, yeah idiot, because that's exactly what I was doing. That explains that comeback. Sorry next time I'll put a for you.
