Well I already got in one argument about strikeouts might as well get into another. In 2002 Hernandez had a very good year despite the strikeouts. He had an OPS of .834 (OPS+ of 121) and despite his 188 strikeouts he still had a solid .356 OBP. Remember Bobby Bonds holds the single season record and the year he did it he had an OPS of .897 (OPS+ of 135) and still hit over .300. Breaking the strikeout record is overrated as Bonds was a good player and for one season Jose Hernandez was a good player. Oh and to be a complete geek here is Rob Neyer on the stigma of the strikeout record in his book Rob Neyer's Big Book of Baseball Lineups: Now getting back to Hernandez other than 2002 his best OPS+ in a full season was only 100 so that would that would likely mean his 2002 year was a fluke. Last year his strikeouts did matter since when he wasn't striking out he wasn't getting on base either, unlike 2002 where he was all or nothing. Last year he was just nothing and nothing with a stomach turning .287 OBP.

Yes I lived there for eight months, as recently as last June. It was already topping 100 in late May and hitting 110 in June but maybe I just had bad timing.

Jose Hernandez is about the only free agent 3rd baseman still available...too bad he was just god awful last year. Yankees could take a chance on him and pray he puts up his 2002 numbers but that year definently looks like a fluke. If they get really desperate they could trade for Jeff Cirillo. All things considered they are going to probably just gonna have to go with a giant hole at 3rd for the first half of the season and then try to trade for one at the deadline when a decent one might be available off a team out of contention. Could also call up Mike Bordick and see if he doesn't want to retire and move Jeter to 3rd.

I still will never believe that Las Vegas will get a major profession team. If the Expos moved to Las Vegas then Pete Rose and Joe Jackson should immediately be inducted in the Hall of Fame. Warm? HA! Don't they mean "hot as hell"? Shit its on Las Vegas Blvd so its not like its that far from the casinos.

Breaking news...Aaron Boone is out for the year. By Tom Verducci, SI.com

Everyone is missing the obvious explanation to get him to Raw. Raw opens up tommorrow night with Benoit waking up from bed and realizing it was all a dream. The brand split never happened and he has a match with Val Venis tonight. Then he goes to the bathroom and sees Patrick Duffy in the shower.

Well this thread went to shit. Fucking NFL and their bye week before the Super Bowl.
-
I'd guess whoever comes up with these bizarre rankings is the same person who writes the comments. Should be pointed out before last year Tim Worrell had 7 career saves and 20 "blown" saves and didn't seem to effect him.
-
Well that's all I need to know. Oh here is the text to one of the bogus links at the bottom of the article: Seriously why do people visit these bullshit sites? 1popup is bad enough.

The defense is named after former Bears safety Doug Plank who wore #46 when Buddy Ryan first started using the defense in 1981. This really isn't the best explanation of it but the idea is moving the strong safety up from the secondary to give the defense an eight man front, leaving two corners and one free safety in the secondary. The purpose of the 46 defense is to get maximum pressure on the quarterback. It really isn't used exclusively because few teams ever have had the defensive talent the '85 Bears had as its a pretty big risk to always leave only three defensive backs out there and have your corners always in man-to-man coverage. It got exposed by Dan Marino and the Dolphins that year in the Bears only loss and it would have been interesting to see a rematch of them in the Super Bowl but Miami got upset by the Patriots in the AFC Championship game. As for why they didn't win another is that they were slowly broken up soon after including letting Wilbur Marshall go immediately following the '85 season as the Bears owner didn't like spending money. They did actually have homefield in the playoffs in 1988 but that team overachieved and didn't have nearly the talent of the '85 team. They lost to the 49ers 28-3 in the NFC Championship game. Edit: Forgot about the '86 Bears who went 14-2 and actually gave up fewer points than the '85 team but they were upset in the divisional playoffs by the Redskins. That's part of the reason why the Bears only won one Super Bowl because the NFC was loaded in the 80s.

If you want some entertainment go read the his website forum. http://www.terrellowens.com/forum/ You have to register to read them. Under the "Ask Terrell" section supposedly the real Terrell Owens responds and I guess the articles above confirm it. Thing is "TO" (his registered name) isn't quite as articulate as the quotes above. He types in all caps and sounds like he is 14 years old. Here's one reply talking about Garcia.

I'm Bored so I might as well rank the Super Bowls that I have memories of watching which would go back to Super Bowl XX as basically all my sport memories begin in 1986 for whatever reason. This is totally off the top of my head and totally subjective and should not be read by anyone. 1. XXXIII - 49ers 20, Bengals 16. I'm biased, so sue me. Only game to have a winning touchdown in the final minute. 2. XXXII - Denver 31, Green Bay 24. Probably a better game than the above but loses points for Holmgren having the Packers not attempt to stop Terrell Davis for the eventual winning touchdown to save time. 3. XXXIV - St. Louis 23, Tennessee 16. Okay the game wasn't that great the first three quarters but it was probably the best 4th quarter of any Super Bowl and tough to beat the last play of the game for a heart stopping moment. 4. XXXVI - New England 20, St. Louis 17. No explanation really needed here, I just rank it below the other three as I barely remember the rest of the game outside the game winning field goal. 5. XXV - N.Y. Giants 20, Buffalo 19. You'd get a lot of people to argue this is the greatest Super Bowl ever *cough* New Yorkers *cough* but I've never felt the love everyone gives this game as it was just the Giants basically boring the Bills into defeat and the Bills still almost won. Okay unfair comment and I hated the Giants at the time for ending the 49ers shot at three straight but hey its my list! 6. XXX - Dallas 27, Pittsburgh 17. Yikes pretty big drop off after that five as most every other Super Bowl in the last 18 years has been fairly forgettable. This game was super competitive though and the Steelers outplayed the Cowboys but Neil O'Donnell fell in love with Larry Brown. 7. XXVIII - Dallas 30, Buffalo 13. Yup its getting ugly. I don't know I guess I rank this above the other blow outs for the Bills shockingly leading at the half before the Cowboys blew them out. 8. XXI - N.Y. Giants 39, Denver 20. It was competitive for about a quarter and sorta entertaining. 9. XXXI - Green Bay 35, New Englad 21. Seriously at this point its totally arbitrary. All I remember about this was Reggie White saying God chose the Packers to win or something but he said that a lot. 10. XXVI - Washington 37, Buffalo 24. Um...well at least In Living Color was on at halftime. 11. XXIV - San Francisco 55, Denver 10. Ya ya this should be at the bottom but WEST COAST BIAS! At least it has some historical significance and I looooooove pointing this game out to anyone who says John Elway was better than Joe Montana. 12. XXXIII - Denver 34, Atlanta 19. Total nothing game and made people start calling John Elway the greatest qb of all-time and NO ONE needs that. 13. XXII - Washington 42, Denver 10. Denver dominated for a quarter and Washington has the best quarter ever in the 2nd. Of course 2nd half ended up being completely irrelevent. 14. XXXVII - Tampa Bay 48, Oakland 21. Hey seeing the Raiders getting destroyed can't be half bad. 15. XX - Chicago 46, New England 10. First Super Bowl I ever watched and maybe my earliest sports related memory. I remember my brother and I were rooting for the Patriots. Yeesh. 16. XXIX - San Francisco 49, San Diego 26. Well okay even I can't justify ranking this very high. This game was even more of a sure thing going in than the Denver blow out. They should have just given the 49ers the trophy before the game. 17. XXVII - Dallas 52, Buffalo 17. God I hated the Cowboys and this just sucked to watch. I didn't even see the infamous Leon Lett play as I'd stop watching soon before that. 18. XXXV - Baltimore 34, N.Y. Giants 7. Total nothing game as parity brought the least desirable match-up in Super Bowl history, even more than this year's game. Just didn't give a flying fuck about it. There ya go.

What would you prefer he fued with A-Train? God damn who fucking cares? I wasn't big on the Eddie/Chavo feud at first but it has OWNED the last few weeks since Chavo finally turned and easily the best storyline going right now. -
ESPN.com's Page 2 has their 100 Greatest Super Bowl Moments list up. http://espn.go.com/page2/s/superbowlmoments100.html I don't know how you come up with 100 moments for only 37 games played and some of the lower ones are fairly trivial. I won't spoil the #1 moment they had and I agree with it 100% but I am biased.

After some digging finally found his stats from last year as a Freshman. Only made one start and had 16 appearances overall, was 2-0 with a 2.20 ERA in 28 2/3 innings pitched, with 44 strikeouts and 11 walks. From what I read he'll still be in the bullpen this year.

It had been mentioned the NBA's worst era business wise, the late 70s, but holy shit playing wise today's era is just horrible. I can't sit through an NBA game all the way through anymore, unless I'm actually at the game of course. No one can shoot anymore, at least not American players, and I'm not even sure if the NBA and its coaches even give a shit because its amazing to me how bad it has got. And its not better defense because go back to the Bad Boys Pistons who beat the shit of their opponents for 48 minutes but they still gave up just over 100 points a game (and the led the league in that category) because when their opponent got a rare open shot, they'd *gasp* make it! It is just astounding to me that its so hard for most of the league now to score 100 points when it used to be only the worst teams in the league couldn't crack 100 a game. My god tonight I see the current Pistons, a team that was on a 13 game winning streak, score 69 points tonight!!! How the fuck does an NBA team, especially a good one (by East standards), score 69 points? Were they even trying? I don't care how good of defense the Pacers play that is just pathetic. And the sad thing is its now a fairly common thing for a team to score that few of points.

Considering the M's already have Guardado (who I'm presuming will be the closer) and Hasegawa (who was 16-17 in saves last year, and thus makes a great fill-in and setup man), I don't see why they need Urbina. They could do far worse for bullpen help, though. Well its meant to be tougne in cheek because there is never any logic to moves Bavasi makes. Anyways like I pointed out in the previous post Guardado is the only lefty they have in their bullpen so I'd assume he won't be the closer.
