He just admitted on ESPN News that he signed for the money. Wow thanks for lying through your fucking teeth for the last six weeks Keith. I hope you cost the Red Sox the World Series and become the biggest scapegoat for them since Buckner.

    The Heisman trophy........

Eli Manning is projected as the #1 pick overall in the NFL Draft. Jason White is project as a 3rd or 4th rounder in the NFL Draft. It has nothing to do with the Heisman but it has everything to do with who is actually a better quarterback. Oh and Ben Rothlesberger is a better qb than Jason White too. Damaramu I just wish you'd have an opinion on a college football team not named Oklahoma for once.

    The Heisman trophy........

Damaramu just get the Oklahoma football dick out of your mouth for two seconds and realize you really have no clue what your talking about. Jason White will win the Heisman and he's deserving but he's not a better quarterback than Eli Manning.

Four years of hell. I fucking HATE the rebuilding process. I HATE when a team says "we're not even going to try for the next x number of years, we'll 'rebuild' (suck major ass) for a couple of years and hope that what we've done while we "rebuilt" is enough to make us a contender again." Yeah, it has to happen, but why the hell should I look forward to four, five, six 61-101 type years? Could you live with four years of rebuilding to win three or four world titles? Or would you prefer six straight years of trading young players for veterans and signing high priced free agents to just simply miss the playoffs (1983-1988) and then four years of forced rebuilding (1989-1992) all mushed in a 17 year period where they don't win a World Series (1979-1995)? Those who forget history are doomed to repeat it.

    The Heisman trophy........

Here's a little trivia for you...of the 68 previous winners of the Heisman only seven of them played on a team that won at least a share of the national championship: 1938 Davey O'Brien, TCU 1945 Doc Blanchard, Army 1947 John Lujack, Notre Dame 1949 Leon Hart, Notre Dame 1976 Tony Dorsett, Pittsburgh 1993 Charlie Ward, Florida State 1997 Charles Woodson, Michigan

At least according to Billy Beane yesterday they'd know by today if Rincon was re-signing with the A's or not. I wouldn't mind him back and they have to sign a lefty set-up man no matter what since they have no one else but his strikeout-to-walk ratio suddenly went to shit last year. Oh and 2GOLD...George Steinbrenner doesn't care right now. Its all about winning now and fuck the future. It will bite them in the ass eventually.

I think everyone knew, or should have known, when the Yankees re-signed David Wells that Pettite was gone. Keeping Wells came off like such a desperate move that I think they knew already that they wren't keeping Pettite.

    The Heisman trophy........

Even though I'm a huge college football fan I so don't care about the Heisman. After the year Gino Toretta beat out Garrison Hearst, think it was '92 or '93, I realized how pointless and overhyped the award really was. Also the Heisman Trophy show that ESPN does has to be one of the most boringest hour in television. Just announce the damn winner and get it over with it.

    The Heisman trophy........

Only four finalists were announced with no surprises: Jason White, Larry Fitzgerald, Eli Manning, and Chris Perry. Most of the ballots were sent in before last Saturday so White is pretty much a lock. Ummm there are A LOT more than 10 people vote who vote on the Heisman.

Yikes. $3 mil per for a guy whose production has slipped and has become a relative fixture on the DL? Seems pricey to me, but at least the Tigers are trying. Trying? Bleh if I were a fan I'd rather they not try than waste that money. If they sign Tejada is one thing but Vina? They don't have any 2nd baseman in their system that can hit .250 with almost no power? There is no quick fix for the Tigers situation so they should just stick with their young guys as they'll get better as time passes.

    ARMAGEDDON

Seriously are any of those matches going to break **? Its pretty pathetic when Booker T/Mark Henry might be match of the night as their first one-one-on match when Booker won was shockingly watchable and a good ** t.v. match. Michaels always brings the working boots for PPVs but don't know if he can get anything breaking *1/2 out of Batista. Prefer they just cut promos on each other for 20 minutes and that would be more entertaining than them wrestling.

Sheffield is never happy, ever. He and Manny Ramirez should form their clubhouse for apathetic, power hitting outfielders. The Guardado deal is a one-year deal with two options years. Apparantly they've signed him to be the set-up man but see how long that lasts before Kaz Sasaki's first trip to the DL.

Hugh...the Giants aren't getting him. As for Pudge he's going to get the same deal he got last year 1-year, $10 million from maybe someone like the Cubs because he's doing the exact same thing he did last year. No one is going to give a catcher in their 30s, even in his early 30s (he's 32), a four year deal. Before last year he had three straight years where he spent time on the DL.

    NCAA PLAYOFF SYSTEM

Edwin is exactly right. If your going to do a real true playoff, as in 16 teams, the bowls have to be eliminated. I disagree with the t.v. thing though as CBS is paying in the billions to air the college basketball tournament and a football tournament would bring in even more money. Besides they play on Saturday so there isn't any competition. Probably would have to spread a 1st round over two days but could do it on Friday and Saturday. But alas its all a pipe dream and in fact I figure they ever have a playoff they'll just screw that up too.

    Let's look since division play start in 1969 at the Series champs and where they ranked in their league and where they ranked overall in terms of record (league rank, MLB rank). '69 Mets 100-62 (1st, 2nd) '70 Orioles 108-54 (1st, 1st) '71 Pirates 97-65 (1st, 3rd) '72 A's 93-62 (1st, 3rd) '73 A's 94-68 (2nd, 4th) '74 A's 90-72 (2nd, 4th) '75 Reds 108-54 (1st, 1st) '76 Reds 102-60 (1st, 1st) '77 Yankees 100-62 (2nd, 3rd) '78 Yankees 100-62 (1st, 1st) '79 Pirates 98-64 (1st, 2nd) '80 Phillies 91-71 (3rd, 5th) '81 Dodgers 63-47 (3rd, 4th) - strike season with division playoffs '82 Cardinals 92-70 (1st, 4th) '83 Orioles 98-64 (2nd, 2nd) '84 Tigers 104-58 (1st, 1st) '85 Royals 91-71 (3rd, 6th) '86 Mets 108-54 (1st, 1st) '87 Twins 85-77 (5th, 9th) '88 Dodgers 94-67 (2nd, 3rd) '89 A's 99-63 (1st, 1st) '90 Reds 91-71 (2nd, 4th) '91 Twins 95-67 (1st, 2nd) '92 Blue Jays 96-66 (1st, 2nd) '93 Blue Jays 95-67 (1st, 4th) Wild Card added '95 Braves 90-54 (1st, 2nd) '96 Yankees 92-70 (2nd, 3rd) '97 Marlins 92-70 (2nd, 4th) '98 Yankees 114-48 (1st, 1st) '99 Yankees 98-64 (1st, 3rd) '00 Yankees 87-74 (5th, 9th) '01 Diamondbacks 92-70 (3rd, 6th) '02 Angels 99-63 (3rd, 4th) '03 Marlins 91-71 (3rd, 7th) See the last four years teams have who won were not among the elite, as in top two or three teams in baseball, during the regular season although Angels with 99 wins in many years would be good enough for the best record. Also notice only 8 out of the 34 years since division play started did the team with the best record in baseball win the World Series and 18 of 34 have had the best record in their league but since the Wild Cards only 3 out of the 9 champs have been the best team in their league during the year. Only been two years where a team won the World Series without one of the top 3 records in their league ('87 Twins, '00 Yankees) and six that have not been in the top 5 in MLB although three of those have come in the last four years.
