The full rankings aren't available anywhere online yet but ESPN is already reporting as expected the AP poll is exactly the same as the Coaches with USC #1, LSU #2, and Oklahoma #3.

But Oregon's didn't get blown out in their final game of season like Nebraska did and Oregon went on and blew out the team that blew out Nebraska in Colorado. Its Oregon's fault they were #2 in both human polls but because computer say there weren't?

Weak comparison. Winning your conference is much more significant in football than basketball as Conference tournaments have ruined college basketball. I'm not a huge fan of conference title games in football but in any conference you have more than 9 teams you can't play every team in the conference so its always possible the top two teams in a conference don't even play each other in a given year. It ended being a moot point after the fact but it was a big deal last year when Ohio State and Iowa didn't play each other and both finished undefeated in the Big Ten.

I think what I should also added to the post where I explain what the possible changes in the BCS after the current contract is up is that a provision will be put in that you must win your conference to play for the national title. With the upcoming conference expansion ACC we're eventually going to get a point where the majority of the conferences have conference title games so to answer the fairness question of a team having to play an extra game to win their conference since most will eventually.

Here's a really key point to make. If the scenerio plays out where we get a split national champion it will be the fault of the BCS. The reason why is tommorrow USC will be #1 both polls most likely and if they went on beat Michigan as we know they'll be national champs in the AP. But if it was the way before the BCS they'd also be the national champ of the Coaches poll because they'd stay #1 rather than being automatically leap frogged by the the winner of the Sugar Bowl. Right or wrong if you believed USC was the national champ or not they would be the outright national champion and there would be no split of the title.

I'd say the debacles of 2000 and 2001 also showed the BCS doesn't accomplish what it intends to do. You got undefeated national champions but did they beat the real #2 team? No they didn't. Its not but its ruined a lot of bowl tradition and really not accomplished much. Also why defend it? I never get people who are so defensive of the system. Unless you have some some monetary stake it who gives a shit if it goes away? Playoffs are probably never going to happen so the BCS exsisting or not will have little effect on it. Also ya great Boise State/Hawaii means something...but it was a game today between two 5-6 teams that had a bigger impact on who plays for the national championship. Sorry a truly a meaningless game between two teams that aren't going to bowl games shouldn't have an impact on who wins the so-called national title.

Yes I threw out the conspiracy theory of the BCS committee telling the Coaches to vote LSU and Oklahoma #1 and #2 and to vote USC #3 or lower. They are screwed when it comes to the AP poll though.

Both...its considered a tie. Michigan has a 1997 National Championship banner even though they split it with Nebraska.

One more time with feeling...the AP poll has no connection to the BCS at all. The AP poll can pick whoever they want to be national champion. It is safe to assume USC will be #1 tommorrow in the poll and if they go on and beat Michigan in the Rose Bowl it is safe to assume they will remain that #1 and be the AP's national champion. The Coaches poll is tied to the BCS and whoever wins the desigated national championship game has to be voted #1 and be declared their national champion. Thus by that scenerio we get a split national champion. It's actually a fallacy to say that the BCS was created to get an udisputed national champion because its main purpose was to set up an annual national title game between the #1 and #2 teams in the country. You will never have an outright Division I-A national champion until there is a playoff.

But they all lost...so they are all to blame...but only one is really more to blame? No one took care of their own business this year so thus the argument falls flat. In fact by that argument there shouldn't be a national champion this year. Boise State just went up 17 against Hawaii in the 4th and probably just sealed USC's fate. Hey the BCS gets fucked up and I get my Pac-10/Big Ten Rose bowl. Tis' a good day.

Here's what's going to happen, or should I say what I think will happen, with the BCS and read this please: -Nothing is going to be done about fixing the way the #1 and #2 teams are chosen for the next two years because the BCS still has a contract with ABC. -The New York Times computer rating will be thrown out after this year as its the most out of whack of any of them. It may or may not be replaced by another. -Next year a 5th bowl will be added to the BCS. I'd prefer the Cotton Bowl be added because of its tradition but my gut tells me it will be the Capital One Bowl. A provision will be put in that the highest ranked non-BCS conference team will get an autmoatic berth in a BCS bowl to solve that issue. -The BCS contract will be renewed but a radical change will be made to it after the 2005-2006 bowl season. What will happen is the human polls will decide who plays for the national title IF they agree on who is #1 and who is #2. If they don't then and only then will they use computers to decide the #2 spot or both. This idea is going to gain a lot of support after the events of today. Again this is what I think will happen but I've read and heard enough about the subject that all of these things could happen.

JHawk is dead on and I've explained myself before on this. The reasons it has to be 16 teams are: A) It's the only way you can get every conference champion in, B) It's the only way you can get enough at-large teams and money payouts to satisfy the big conferences, C) Every other level of college football does it that way so why not I-A? Eight teams, you couldn't have every conference champion and "mid-major" conferences would be left out creating the same issues people have with the BCS and four teams is too few and there would be a lot more controversy over the #4 and #3 spots than for the #16 and #15 spots in a 16-team tournament. This is all futile effort on my part or anyone else's though as deep down I know there will never be a playoff like this ever even after what has happened this year.

Here's a conspiracy theory....the BCS committee guys (whoever they are) start jumping on the phones calling coaches telling them to vote Oklahoma #1 and LSU #2 or vice versa and vote USC #3 or worse. Of course they are still fucked on the AP side but can't do anything about that.

Ahhh but you said the last 25 years. The Dodgers have two world titles in that time and the Pirates have one both more than the Red Sox. All three have the same number of division titles in that span, four, so hey Boston has that! Red Sox: We've won as many divison titles at the Pirates....well in the last 25 years at least.

I will never agree with only the polls being used after voters intentionally screwed Michigan to give Nebraska a piece of the National Title. Remember undefeated Michigan was moved down to 8th by several so Nebraska could gain enough ground to have a piece. The best suggestion I've heard, next to having playoffs which I'm totally in favor of, is just using the AP and Coaches polls decide who plays for the national title but if there is any descrepency in the polls (as if they don't agree on both who is #1 and #2) THEN you go to a BCS formula to decide who goes. Tommorrow they will both agree on the #1 (USC) and #2 (LSU) teams in the country. They also agreed in 2001 with #1 (Miami) and #2 (Oregon) but Nebraska got in instead by. Now playing the role of Nebraska is Oklahoma only this time its worse because it the #1 team getting shut out and not the #2 team.

Why is a Yankee fan defending the Red Sox? Anyways I'm not even going to touch that last statement because it's so funny and so wrong on so many levels that its too easy to pick apart that I'll just let it stand alone.

USC...YOUR #1 in the country in tommorrow's AP and Coaches poll will not be playing in the "National Championship Game". YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!! Ding dong the BCS is dead.

Ummm...Michigan is locked to the Rose Bowl and Kansas State is locked to the Fiesta Bowl so won't be them. Here's the three bowl scenerios now. If LSU finishes #3 in the BCS. Sugar: USC vs. Oklahoma Rose: Michigan vs. LSU Fiesta: Kansas State vs. Florida State Orange: Miami vs. Ohio State USC finishes #3 Sugar: Oklahoma vs. LSU Rose: Michigan vs. USC Fiesta: Kansas State vs. Florida State Orange: Miami vs. Ohio State Oklahom finishes #3 Sugar: USC vs. LSU Rose: Michigan vs. Florida State Fiesta: Kansas State vs. Ohio State Orange: Miami vs. Oklahoma

The Red Sox level? HA! I think the A's, Cardinals, Reds, Dodgers, Giants, and Pirates all are past that level since they all have more world titles than the Red Sox. Bleh the Red Sox are lucky to have the Yankees as their mistress to whip them around or otherwise no one would care about them.
