49ers weren't going to the playoffs anyways but this is just embarassing. Time to just let Rattay take over the rest of the season and if he does well Garcia will be a cap casualty this offseason.

Baseball Hall of Fame candidate list

Should correct what I said about no locks for next year as Wade Boggs will be a first ballot nominee. So Molitor and Eckersley go in 2004 and then Boggs and probably Sandberg in 2005. 2006 will be a very weak year. Here is the eligible players for the next two years although of course not all will be on the ballot: 2005 Jim Abbott, Jeff Blauser, Wade Boggs, Tom Candiotti, Chili Davis, Jeff King, Mark Langston, Jack McDowell, Willie McGee, Brian McRae, Jeff Montgomery, Otis Nixon, Tony Phillips, Mark Portugal, Terry Steinbach 2006 Rick Aguilera, Tim Belcher, Will Clark, Alex Fernandez, Gary Gaetti, Dwight Gooden, Ozzie Guillen, Juan Guzman, Orel Hershiser, Gregg Jefferies, Lance Johnson, Doug Jones, Roberto Kelly, Mickey Morandini, Hal Morris, Jaime Navarro, Luis Polonia, Mike Stanley, Darryl Strawberry, Walt Weiss, John Wetteland, Mark Whiten

I didn't think anyone would care. Walt Harris of Pittsburgh is rumored to replace him. Oh and since it wasn't posted but I'm sure everyone knows by now, Mike Stoops was named the new Arizona coach. He'll still be Oklahoma's defensive coordinator for the Big XII title game but won't be there for the Sugar Bowl.

Hmmm I'm thinking your thinking LSU might still get an at-large BCS berth if they lose to Georgia thus taking away Ohio State's spot and bumping everyone else down in the Big Ten. I don't think you have to worry about that as I'm pretty sure the BCS wants a Miami/Ohio State re-match no matter what....if that was what you were thinking.

Baseball Hall of Fame candidate list

Well it also depends who your up against and I think each writer designates a minumum number of players they'll vote for to go along with the maximum of 10. Tony Perez only got in the HOF in 2000 because he was in a year where there were no locks on the ballot. Its obviously not a perfect system. This season Molitor and Eckersley are locks but the next two years there are no first ballot locks so Sandberg will definently get in then and then guys like Sutter, Rice, and Dawson might get in in those two years. Then comes the Class of 2007 ballot...Gwynn, Ripken, and McGwire. No one else on the ballot will have a chance in hell of getting in that year.

Bored's Bowl Projections...and no one else's! Hey look actual bowl projections by me. Of course its much easier now just to look ahead to one more week of games and after hearing enough rumors about projections to make my own guess now. Baseball Hall of Fame candidate list

http://www.baseballhalloffame.org/hofers_a...orees/rules.htm According to their website it seems really, beyond being retired for five years, all you have to do to be eligible is played at least 10 years. Oh well doesn't really matter when it comes to the end of the ballot guys as they'll be off of it by next year. My ballot...um if I had one...would go like this, and I if I voted the maximum 10 that a writer can vote, I'd vote Molitor, Eckersley, Sandberg, Rice, Parker, Smith, Blyleven, Morris, Dawson, and Mattingly. Out of those 10 I'd probably only vote in Molitor, Eckersley, Sandberg definently, Rice probably, and then maybe Parker and Smith. I know not everyone agrees on Jim Rice but more I look at it the more I think he deserve to get in.

    Schilling traded to Red Sox

I'd be surprised if Beane and the A's gave Foulke a four-year deal because that isn't his style and I thought that would be the deal breaker there for the A's as they wouldn't be willing to give a closer more than three years. All indications since the season ended was Foulke wanted to stay in Oakland and would take less money to stay and it would just come down to if someone offered more years than the A's would. A local writer floated a rumor about Beane being ineterested in LaTroy Hawkins if indeed Foulke signed with the Red Sox. We shall see I guess.

Notre Dame is up 21-0 at the moment and Stanford doesn't have the offense to come back so they will improve to 5-6. They play at Syracuse next week and if they win there Notre Dame will be bowl eligible. Tieing into that is Kansas today has accepted the bid to the Tangerine Bowl. That means the Ft. Worth Bowl will be an at-large bid available for UConn or Northern Illinois, although I think I read that both might get snubbed for Air Force. If Notre Dame wins next week they could end up swooping in and stealing that at-large bid.

Funny how the Yankees have been on the Sports Illustrated baseball preview issue the last three years and of course didn't win it all the last three years. I know Pedro was on the '99 cover. Edit: Pedro was on the 2000 cover not the '99. Hmmm.

Anglesault this may be a blessing in disguise because the Yankees would have departed with Nick Johnson to get Schilling. They'd really regret that when in May or June, Giambi goes on the DL again because he's knees can't take the beating of playing in the field everyday. Johnson needs to be their everday first baseman and Giambi needs to be the everyday DH. Its never smart to trade young talent for a 37-year old starting pitcher and never understood the Red Sox and the Yankees fascination in trying to get Schilling. This win now at all costs philosophy always catches up to you eventually.

Kinda interesting bowl news today as Navy (7-4) has accepted a bid to the Houston Bowl. The SEC's bid there was open because they won't have enough bowl eligible teams to fill their slots. That does take away a bid though from better at-large teams in fellow independent Connecticut (9-3) and the MAC's Northern Illinois (10-2) who doesn't a have a bid because they MAC only has two bowl slots. Navy seems like a bit of a politically correct choice to me. Colorado lost today so that does leave a Big 12 slot open in either the Ft. Worth or Tangerine Bowl as long as Texas holds on to win today and pretty much lock up an at-large BCS berth. Oh and a question to the regulars of the topic, I was considering creating a new seperate topic next week for the championship games and the important USC game since I know some of you will be posting a lot during those games. This topic has gotten little over bloated I think and wouldn't hurt to create a new one. If no one has a problem I'll go ahead and do that on Monday or Tuesday. I'll definently create a new topic for the bowl games when they start.

SEC #2 bid is in the Capital One Bowl. After that is where it can go in any direction. The Cotton Bowl and Outback Bowl both can claim a #3 SEC bid but the Cotton Bowl prefers to take a team from the SEC West and the Outback prefers to take a team from the SEC East. After that it really doesn't matter where you place as a team can go wherever they want and whatever bowl wants them. The Big 12 is similar as they usually don't really follow a set way to pick their teams. Obviously Rob E Dangerously has gone into that already with how Kansas State might get screwed over due to the way they pick their bowls even though supposedly the #2 bid is the Cotton Bowl for them but it doesn't always work out that way.

To add to the TCU thing, duh I just remembered that TCU is located in Ft. Worth so of course they want the Ft. Worth Bowl. What a load of shit as they are just trying to position themselves to get to play a bowl game at home. Maybe Conference USA could step in and tell them they have to play in the GMAC Bowl or not play in a bowl at all but they'll probably do nothing since TCU will sell out by playing at home. I hope they get their ass kicked by UConn or whoever it ends up being their opponent.
